Victorian trainer charged with improper conduct
01 Dec 2017 | Racing Victoria

Racing Victoria (RV) Stewards on Friday issued one charge against licensed trainer John Sadler for a breach of Australian Rule of Racing (AR) 175(q).

AR 175(q) states:
• The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise … (q) Any person who in their opinion is guilty of any misconduct, improper conduct or unseemly behaviour.

The charge pertains to Mr Sadler’s conduct before and after the Stewards’ decision to order the late withdrawal of his horse Observational from the Eclipse Stakes (Group 3) over 1800 metres at Sandown Racecourse on 18 November 2017.

Stewards allege that comments made by Mr Sadler on the day of the race meeting to Chairman of Stewards, Terry Bailey, in telephone calls at approximately 8.17am and 11.45am and in person to Mr Bailey and Deputy Chairman of Stewards, Robert Cram, in the Stewards Room at Sandown Racecourse at approximately 1.20pm constituted improper conduct.

The charge will be heard by the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board on a date to be fixed.

Stewards further note that their inquiry into the circumstances that required the withdrawal of Observational under AR 178AA(3) remains on-going.
