Three Victorian trainers hearing dates set

The Victorian RAD Board will hear Racing Victoria stewards' charges against trainer Russell Green on Tuesday, October 3rd, trainer Mitchell Freedman on Wednesday, 4 October 4th and trainer Jody Thompson on Monday, October 9th.

Mr Green has been charged as follows:

Charge 1 – AR 178E(1)

‘Notwithstanding the provisions of AR 178C(2), no person without the permission of the Stewards may administer or cause to be administered any medication to a horse on race day prior to such horse running in a race.’

Charge 2 - AR 175(l) (alternative to Charge 1)

‘The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise: (I) Any person who attempts to commit, or conspires with any other person to commit, or any person who connives at or is a party to another committing any breach of the Rules.’

Charge 3 – AR 175(g)

“The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise: (g) Any person who gives at any interview, investigation, inquiry, hearing and/or appeal any evidence which is false or misleading in any particular.”

Charges 1 and 2 relate to the alleged administration, or attempted administration, of a solution which contained (at least) an unknown quantity of Green Amino drench, Blud powder and water via syringe to the horse Overton Onyx on 6 April 2017 when it was engaged to run in Race 6 at Wangaratta that day.

Mr Freedman has been charged with a breach of AR 175(o)(iv) which provides that:

‘The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise: (o) Any person in charge of a horse who in their opinion fails at any time: (iv) to provide proper and sufficient nutrition for a horse.’

The stewards allege that Mr Freedman did not provide the horse Mywordsaidthebird with proper and sufficient nutrition during the period from 5 May 2016 to 8 November 2016, in contravention of AR 175(o)(iv).

Ms Thompson has been charged with a breach of the following Rules:

Charge 1 - AR 175(o)(iv)

‘The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise: (o) Any person in charge of a horse who in their opinion fails at any time: (iv) to provide proper and sufficient nutrition for a horse.’

Charge 2 – AR 175(o)(iii)

‘The Principal Racing Authority (or the Stewards exercising powers delegated to them) may penalise: (o) Any person in charge of a horse who in their opinion fails at any time: (iii) To provide for veterinary treatment where such treatment is necessary for the horse.

The stewards allege that Ms Thompson failed to provide proper and sufficient nutrition and failed to obtain veterinary treatment for the horse Skating for Gold during the period from approximately 25 December 2016 to 27 January 2017.
