Riding Changes / Jockey Information

 

Medical Certificate produced today:

Regan Bayliss was examined by the doctor after arriving on course and was passed fit to ride after forgoing rides at Pakenham on Thursday August 3rd.  Regan Bayliss was severely reprimanded for failing to obtain a medical when directed to do so. 

 

Other Comments / Explanations:

Chris Symons was examined by the doctor after the running of Race 3 and was passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.  

 

Race 1 - VRC Members Pavilion Handicap - 1000 metres:  

Wait For No One - connections advised would be ridden with cover; after beginning well led and over-raced.  Rider Regan Bayliss stated that it was not his intention to lead, however after beginning extremely well his mount over-raced when he attempted to ease to find cover.

Clear Signal - knuckled at the start and lost ground.  Passing the 800m was bumped by Star Clipper which shifted in.  Rider Daniel Moor stated that after beginning awkwardly, his mount then over-raced in the early stages due to the slow tempo.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Star Clipper - began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of Cao Cao.  Near the 700m bumped by Clear Signal on the hindquarters. 

Cao Cao - bumped at the start.  Over-raced and got its head up in the early and middle stages.

Sunquest - over-raced in the early stages.  

Indian Thunder - rider Damian Lane could offer no explanation for the performance.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery and an endoscopic examination detected a degree of mucus that may have affected the colts racing performance and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

 

Race 2 - New Season Handicap - 1700 metres:  

Domino Vitale - connections advised would be ridden more forward due to being up in distance; began awkwardly and settled mid-field three wide without cover. 

Whyouask - slow to begin.

Hell Or Highwater - over-raced in the early stages.

Miss It And A Bit - inconvenienced near the 400m when attempting to shift out and was bumped by Dulverton which shifted in to obtain clear running.  Apprentice Stephanie Thornton was of the opinion her mount would be better suited on a track with more give. 

Dulverton - laid out from the 300m. 

Another Bullseye - laid inwards in the home straight.  Apprentice Taylor Marshall stated his mount failed to respond to his riding when placed under pressure and laid in.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery.    

Florida Pearl - rider Daniel Moor could offer no explanation for the performance which was below expectations.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal

Mulinello (NZ) - rider Stephen Baster reported his mount did not feel right in its action.  A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. 

 

Race 3 - Winter Lodge Handicap - 1000 metres:  

Dothraki Princess - dislodged rider Chris Symons en route to the gates and galloped riderless for some distance.  Underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12.44pm.  All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Dothraki Princess to be refunded.  All successful bets on horses prior to 12.44pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 0 cents, place bets (for winner) - 1 cent, place bets (for 2nd) - 1 cent and place bets (for 3rd) - 1 cent.  

Madeenaty - connections advised would be ridden forward; led.  After being fractious in the barriers began awkwardly.

Chateau Griffo - crowded at the start between Living Doll and Crown Witness which shifted out.  Bumped near the 500m. 

Living Doll - over-raced in the early stages.  Near the 500m was bumped and carried inwards by As It Lies. 

Crown Witness - over-raced in the early stages. 

As It Lies - began awkwardly.  Raced greenly near the 500m, shifted in and bumped with Living Doll. 

Watchmespin - rider Daniel Moor was of the opinion the filly would be better suited over further ground.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

 

Race 4 - The Nursery Handicap - 2000 metres:  

Loresho - after making contact with a gate leaving the mounting yard, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.  Held up between the 400m and the 250m.  Rider Jye McNeil stated it was his intention to be conservative from the barrier and attempt to ride with cover as the gelding failed to finish off when pressured at its most recent race. 

Swacadelic (GER) - slow to begin.

Bondi Beach (IRE) - slow to begin.  Raced wide without cover. Rider Damien Oliver reported his saddle slipped during the event and he was of the opinion his mount would benefit from today’s run after resuming today from a long spell.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.  

Magic Consol - over-raced in the early stages.

Killarney Kid (NZ) - bumped passing the 500m when attempting to shift Bondi Beach (IRE) wider on the track.  Rider John Allen could offer no explanation for the performance, which was below expectations.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. 

 

Race 5 - The Stayers Lounge Handicap - 1200 metres:  

Inspector - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 10.38am when found to be lame in the off foreleg and will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. 

Kirani - began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Red Alto.

Red Alto - bumped at the start.

Nikitas - near the 1000m shifted in and brushed with Play Master.  Brushed near the 700m.  Over the concluding stages was steadied when racing tight between Kirani and Play Master, which laid out.  Rider Ben Melham stated that his mount did not appreciate not being able to gain cover in the small field today and due to being exposed was unable to finish off.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. 

Play Master - near the 700m laid out and brushed with Nikitas.

 

Race 6 - 1 Oliver St Plate - 2500 metres:  

Benall - slow to begin.

Azurite (IRE) - raced wide until passing the 1800m.

Survived (NZ) - over-raced in the middle stages.

Yogi (NZ) - raced wide without cover from the 1000m when improving from the rear of the field. 

Chequered Flag (NZ) - laid out under pressure in the home straight and passing the 200m shifted out under pressure. 

Kawabata - apprentice Ben Thompson was fined $400 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip ten times prior to the 100m, which is five times more than permitted.  In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account his good record and that it was a staying event. 

 

Race 7 - Jockey Celebration Day Plate - 1600 metres:  

Dollar For Dollar - connections advised would be ridden further back with cover; began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped with Bajour (NZ) then raced four wide without cover in a mid-field position. 

Jaminzah - connections advised would be ridden closer if it begins well; raced wide with cover in a mid-field position. 

Spearhead - began awkwardly and lost ground.  Steadied near the 350m when racing tight between Giddyup and But Its True which shifted in marginally.  Was again steadied when in restricted room passing the 250m when racing tight to the inside of But Its True then had difficulty obtaining clear running until passing the 150m. 

Giddyup - over-raced in the early stages.

Andrea Mantegna (USA) - raced three wide without cover.  Apprentice Jordan Grob dropped his whip near the 300m.  Jordan Grob stated that his mount would be better suited on a track with more give and did not appreciate the strong wind.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. 

Bajour (NZ) - steadied near the 250m when Spunlago shifted in before then shifting over that geldings heels to obtain clear running. 

Gold Fields - when questioned regarding the performance today, apprentice Brandon Stockdale explained that from the wide barrier the gelding was required to do too much work in the early stages to take up a forward position and with the risk of being caught wide without cover, he was left with no other option but to press forward and lead, and having to negotiate a strong headwind his mount then compounded in the straight.  He reiterated that in his view, his mount was simply required to do too much work in the early stages to be competitive at the finish. 

But Its True - rider John Allen was of the opinion his mount would be better suited on a track with more give. 

 

Race 8 - John and Denise Cobcroft Recognition Handicap - 1600 metres:  

Cosmic Lights - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 3.45pm.  The RV veterinary surgeon reported the gelding to have back soreness and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.  All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on Cosmic Lights to be refunded.  All successful bets on horses prior to 3.45pm are subject to the following deductions in the dollar from the face value of the ticket: win bets - 8 cents, place bets (for winner) - 9 cents, place bets (for 2nd) - 7 cents, place bets (for 3rd) - 10 cents and double bets - 8 cents. 

Mihany - connections advised would be ridden forward; settled outside the leader. 

Foundation (IRE) - slow to begin.  Laid inwards in the home straight. 

Hipparchus (GB) - raced wide without cover.

Ruling Dynasty - raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. 

Velox (GB) - near the 500m steadied after being carried in by Amralah (IRE) which laid in.

Leica Day - held up between the 200m and the 100m before shifting out over the heels of Moonovermanhattan to obtain clear running. 

Amralah (IRE) - laid out in the home straight.  Rider Damien Oliver stated that his mount travelled well but was not suited to the slow tempo and would be better suited over further distance and would benefit from the run as it had not started for an extended period.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Amovatio - laid inwards in the home straight. 

Show A Star - rider Craig Newitt was of the view that the gelding had come to the end of its preparation and was of the understanding would now be sent for a spell and Stewards will follow up with the stable in the coming days.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis. 

 

Race 9 - The Rails Handicap - 1400 metres:  

Rich Luck - late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 2.52pm.  Betting deductions: 9 cents for double bets. 

Reincarnate - slow to begin.

Sly Romance (NZ) - slow to begin.  Rider Regan Bayliss was reprimanded for using his whip on a horse that was out of contention. 

Nozomi - shortly after the start was momentarily tightened.

Revolving Door - over-raced in the early stages.  Rider Mark Zahra could offer no explanation for the performance which was below expectations.  An irregular heart rhythm was detected on post race veterinary examination.  The gelding shall not start in any race until the Stewards have received a satisfactory veterinary report.  The report must include the results of an ECG performed at rest and cardiac auscultation performed within thirty minutes of completing a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000m.  A swab sample was also taken for analysis. 

Here To There (NZ) - raced wide without cover for the majority.

Municipality - held up between the 500m and the 300m before shifting back inside to obtain clear running. 

Divine Mr Artie - had difficulty obtaining clear running from the 500m and until passing the 250m.

Portman (NZ) - when making ground near the 300m, shifted out across the heels of Ozi Choice to obtain clear running.

Sin To Win (NZ) - over the concluding stages brushed with Divine Mr Artie due to both horses shifting ground marginally. 

 

Race 10 - The Domain Handicap - 2000 metres:  

Eureka Street - connections advised would be ridden more positive; settled outside the leader.

Presscott (NZ) - inconvenienced at the start by Spanish Reef, which shifted out.  Held up passing the 300m before shifting back to the inside of Ocean Magic to obtain clear running. 

Spanish Reef - bumped at the start.

Summer Glen - over-raced in the early and middle stages.  Near the 1600m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Shadow Prince (NZ). 

Ocean Magic - over-raced in the early and middle stages. 

Aprochier - near the 800m shifted in and bumped with All Out Of Love when over-racing. 

All Out Of Love - near the 800m shifted in and bumped with Aprochier when over-racing.  Rider Mark Zahra could offer no explanation for the performance.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Dr Jameson - raced four wide without cover for the majority.

Von Richter - raced three wide without cover.

Windbern - laid outwards in the home straight. 

Poetic Ray - rider Ben Melham was of the opinion his mount was at the end of its preparation.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3 - Hamilton Reid Chartered Accountants Handicap - 1300 metres:  

Purrpussful - trainer Pat Carey advised that the mare got too far back, pulled up satisfactorily and will continue on with its preparation.

Race 8 - Le Pine Funerals Handicap - 1800 metres:  

Can’t Refuse (NZ) - trainer Kelvin Bourke advised that the gelding didn’t appreciate the track conditions, pulled up satisfactorily and will continue on with its preparation on either synthetic surface or firmer ground.

 

Echuca, Thursday July 27th 

Race 7 - SPORTSBET CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1600 metres: 

Palma Merenti - trainer Andrew Noblet advised that the gelding pulled up satisfactorily, will be given a slight freshen up before continuing on and dropping back in distance next start.

Race 8 - ECHUCA NEWSAGENCY BM70 HANDICAP - 1600 metres: 

Lotza Focus - trainer Paul Preusker advised that the gelding pulled up satisfactorily and will continue on with its preparation.

Race 9 - 1PRINT BM64 HANDICAP - 1400 metres: 

Another Bender - when questioned regarding the tactics adopted and the performance of the mare, trainer Dwayne Reid stated he had given apprentice Jordan Grob no firm instructions as he had ridden it in its last three starts, including its last start win at Geelong.  He stated that it was ridden in a similar manner when it won at Geelong, however on that occasion the race was run much quicker in the early stages.  He added that because of this he was satisfied with the performance.  Further, as the mare had drifted considerably in the market, when questioned Mr Reid advised that the mare had worked well in the lead up to the event and he had expected a forward showing and he added that the mare had pulled up well following the performance. His comments were noted.


Geelong, Friday July 28th

Race 4 - Geelong Masters Maiden Plate - 1900 metres:  

Antarctic Fire - trainer Kath Durden advised that the mare pulled up with no issues but would now be retired.

Race 5 - D & R Pike Concreting BM58 Handicap - 1900 metres:  
Avery (NZ) - the Ellerton/Zahra stable advised that the mare pulled up satisfactorily.

Race 6 - Breakwater Hotel BM58 Handicap - 1900 metres:  
Overstay - the Ellerton/Zahra stable advised that the mare pulled up satisfactorily and will continue on with its preparation.


Caulfield, Saturday July 29th 

Race 4 - Jason Hart Handicap - 1100 metres:  

Danuki - the Clinton McDonald stable advised they believe the gelding didn’t appreciate the windy conditions and will continue on with its preparation.



Pakenham, Sunday July 30th 

Race 2 - POLYTRACK 2YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 metres: 

Panda Wantzoff - the Ciaron Maher stable advised that the filly pulled up satisfactorily but would now be sent for a spell.

Galaxy Pirate - the Greg Eurell stable advised that the gelding pulled up satisfactorily, is a bit immature and would now be sent for a spell.
