__________

RACE 1: Tongarra Maiden Plate 1000m:

Chief Kidder – was a late withdrawal at 11.49 a.m. acting on veterinary advice after it became fractious in the barriers. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies placed on Chief Kidder be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 11.49 a.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:

1st Lewinski less 8 cents win, 8 cents place;

2nd High Citadel less 14 cents place;

3rd Ibanez less 7 cents place.

Trainer Mr M. De Montfort was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to its next start.

High Citadel – Bumped on jumping by Ibanez, which began awkwardly and shifted in. Laid in under pressure in the straight. Rider B. Spriggs accidentally dropped his whip passing the 75m.

Baby Jive – Trainer Mr T. Martin was fined $100 for failing to withdraw the filly by the prescribed time (LR36).

Bonny Bay – raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages and, leaving the 600m, had to be steadied when tightened to the inside of Huleo, which laid in.

Bounding Badger – passing the 900m had to be steadied when Huleo (App. R. Hunt) shifted in when not clear. App. R. Hunt was reprimanded.

Lewinski – was examined by the Club's veterinary officer after becoming fractious in the barriers and was passed fit to start. Slow to begin (2L).

Aqua Delago – began awkwardly, shifted out and blundered badly. In this incident, rider C. O'Brien became unbalanced and lost ground.

Assimilate – approaching the 200m, was briefly held up on the heels of Speedway before shifting to that runner's outside to continue into clear running, and in doing so made contact with Severence, which became unbalanced.

Dossier – slow to begin.

Ordos Honor – Rider G. Buckley reported that after travelling wide throughout the event the filly received a minor bump rounding the home turn and subsequently failed to find any effort in the straight. He added that he suggested to connections that the filly may benefit from the addition of blinkers to its gear. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

Speedway – Change of tactics – to be ridden more quiet: settled off-pace.

Unforgotten – on straightening had to be steadied from the heels of the weakening Lexiloo and shifted back to the inside of Assimilate to continue into clear running.

RACE 3: Ellen Preen Birthday Maiden Handicap 1200m:

Nicochet – slow to begin. When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding in the straight, rider R Brewer stated that passing the 300m his mount was not travelling well enough to take advantage of a run between Songs Of Earth and Samurai Sword and as a consequence he allowed his mount to shift to the outside of Samurai Sword. He further added that after shifting to the outside of Samurai Sword, as the gelding then commenced to hang out and as it was still not running on, he allowed it to continue to shift out rather than take a run between Samurai Sword and Liffy and after coming to the outside of Liffy passing the 200m he continued to ride his mount with the whip in his left hand, however it was not until the final 100m that his mount ran home well. R. Brewer was found guilty of a charge under AR137(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the final 1½ strides. R. Brewer's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 16 July 2017 and to expire on Friday 28 July 2017 on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty consideration was given to the margin of only a nose between the gelding which was placed third and the runner-up Songs Of Earth.

Burrangong – slow to begin. Passing the 900m was heavily bumped by Samurai Sword, which shifted out abruptly off the heels of Songs Of Earth (K Latham) after that runner crossed when not quite clear and subsequently slowed the tempo. In this incident, Rolling Breeze was also hampered. K. Latham was advised to exercise more care. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Passing the 600m was restrained and shifted out across the heels of Rolling Breeze (J. Grisedale) which shifted in when not clear. J. Grisedale was reprimanded under AR137(a).

Canberra – passing the 900m, raced in restricted room to the inside of Bella Deluxe.

App. Magorrian's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 16 July 2017 and to expire on Sunday 23 July 2017, on which day he may ride. We Could Be Heroes overraced in the middle stages and had to be steadied from the heels of Bella Deluxe.

El-Issa) when both runners were attempting to proceed into a run to the inside of Carluca (M. Bell), which then shifted in marginally resulting in the gelding being steadied near the 100m. In all the circumstances, B. El-Issa was reprimanded under AR137(a) for attempting a run between Carluca and Figtree where there was doubtful room to improve and M. Bell was advised to exercise more care in that after Lucky Legend had forced that run and improved to his inside M. Bell had allowed his mount to shift in which exacerbated the interference suffered by Manhattan Son

Crown Moss – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

RACE 8: Unanderra Benchmark 64 Handicap 2000m:

Adaboy Ross – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

Courtly – slow to begin. Rider App M. Murphy was questioned regarding his mount racing four wide throughout. After viewing a replay of the race, App Murphy conceded that in the middle stages when it was apparent that there was a position three wide with cover behind My Friend Charlie, he had erred in not easing to take advantage of that position when it was available.

My Friend Charlie – raced wide without cover throughout.

Law Major – held up rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

Storm On – slow to begin. Approaching the 600m was bumped by Megalopolis and carried wide on the track when that runner shifted out to improve.
