RACE 1 – Christmas Parties@Newcastleracecourse Class 1 & Maiden Plate 2360m

Go One More – bumped on jumping.

Polemic – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, J Penza stated that the gelding began well and he was able to assume the lead without making any use of his mount. He said that Polemic then travelled very well throughout the run and he felt that the gelding was a winning chance prior to the home turn. He added that just prior to straightening when he placed Polemic under pressure, the gelding commenced to lay out, resented his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off in the straight. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative S McLeish undertook to report back on the progress of the gelding in the days subsequent.

Saint Jerome – When questioned regarding the gelding racing with cover today, J Van Overmeire stated that his instructions from trainer J Austin were to lead if possible. He stated that after beginning only fairly he elected not to ride his mount vigorously in the early stages as the gelding was having its first start for four weeks and he did not want to make too much use of his mount at this stage of the race. He stated that when he then observed Polemic and Seething Drake, which were drawn to his outside, improving forward, he allowed those runners to cross and he was able to obtain a position with cover in the early stages.

RACE 2 – Fight 4 Connar 3yo Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate 1200m

Malibu Boy – late withdrawal at 10am by order of the Stewards.

Eight Field – the gelding, which refused to load, was a late withdrawal at 12.21pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Eight Field be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 12.21pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:

1st)  Pure Rebel less 6c win and 8c place

2nd) Saint Denis less 7c place

3rd)  Waldo Waldorf less 6c place

Trainer T Morton was advised that Eight Field must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Kinka Bay – slow to begin.

RACE 3 – GWH Build Supporting Hunter Babies 3yof Maiden Plate 1200m

Casino Angel – was fractious in the barriers and as the start was effected lowered its head and then bounded when leaving the barriers and as a result was slow to begin (3L).

Cool One – slow to begin (2L).

Win The Lottery – slow to begin (2L). On straightening had to be steadied when crowded between Komachi Force and Little Poppy (J Adams) which shifted in abruptly. J Adams was advised to exercise more care. When questioned regarding her riding in the straight, R Murray stated that she intended to improve between Komachi Force and Little Poppy, however after being crowded by Little Poppy and losing this run, she was unable to improve and ultimately became held up behind Komachi Force.  She stated in the early part of the straight when held up behind that runner, approaching the 300m she shifted to its outside however became held up behind the tiring Contributing. She stated that she was then held up until approaching the 200m where she was able to shift her mount to the outside of that runner to obtain clear running where her mount ultimately finished the race off strongly.

Dazzles – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned rider K Latham stated that he was instructed if possible to obtain a forward position with cover. He stated that after beginning satisfactory he rode his mount forward to comply with his instructions. He said approaching the first turn near the 1000m when he noted both Schifty Thinker and Contributing improving forward he shifted in to obtain a position trailing Contributing. He stated that when that runner did not improve as far forward as he had anticipated, and then when Rainover Manhattan held its position to the inside of Komachi Force, which was racing directly to his inside, he was then unable to shift Komachi Force in and as a result was obliged to race three wide without cover throughout the event. K Latham further stated that although the tempo in his opinion was only moderate, as the gelding has a tendency to overrace he did not want to have to ride his mount forward where he would have needed to improve several lengths to obtain a position closer to the rail.

Rainover Manhattan – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off hind leg, to be coughing and making an unusual respiratory noise. Stable representative G Miles was advised that prior to Rainover Manhattan racing again a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an endoscopic examination, must be produced.

RACE 4 – Hunter Group Of Companies Supporting Hunter Babies Maiden Handicap 1600m

Abatha – slow to begin and then shortly after the start was crowded by Front View which shifted out.

L Magorrian was advised to exercise more care. Col's Bro continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter and approaching the 800m was restrained away from the heels Vanell.

Thai Boxing – apprentice J Van Overmeire (Kingston Heath) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a) in that passing the 1300m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Col's Bro resulting in that runner being taken in when not clear of Thai Boxing which had to be checked and lost its rightful running when crowded between that gelding and Abatha. Apprentice J Van Overmeire's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday 11 July 2017  and to expire on Monday 17 July 2017 on which day he may ride.

Paris For Me – When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages L Cumberland stated that he was instructed to obtain a forward position with cover. He stated that after beginning well he allowed his mount to stride forward and he anticipated Longchamp Lass shifting to the rail which would afford him a position one off the rail. He stated that when that runner held its position due to Our Ventura being positioned to his inside, Paris For Me was then obliged to race three wide without cover. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to ride forward in the early stages bearing in mind the slow tempo, and bearing in mind the manner in which his mount began, L Cumberland stated that he was reluctant to ride forward as he was under specific instructions to obtain cover.

Whitty Woman – slow to begin (2L).

Dark Necessities – began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Cash In Transit and lost ground. Dark Necessities then shifted back in making contact with the hindquarter of Sonoran resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced. When questioned rider R Thompson stated that he was instructed to obtain a forward position. He stated that his mount became stirred up behind the barriers and after suffering interference at the start and losing some ground, he was obliged to ride his mount forward in the early stages. He said approaching the 600m when shifted to the outside of Crackneck, when that runner commenced to hang out badly his mount was taken considerably wider, bumping with that runner on a number of occasions and, as a result of this, became unbalanced. When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the straight, R Thompson stated that whilst he was not placing his mount under full pressure at that point of the race he was riding his mount out hands and heels. He added that Dark Necessities, after suffering interference at the start and being carried wider near the 600m, did not respond to his riding and near the 200m when his mount was not improving into the race under pressure, he desisted from riding the gelding out over the final 200 metres.  A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Crackneck – rider J Kehoe reported that his mount was inclined to hang out as soon as the start was effected. He stated that approaching the 700m despite his concerted effort Crackneck hung out badly and shifted considerable distance. J Kehoe further stated that Crackneck continued to hang out under pressure in the straight and as a result proved difficult to fully ride out.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer A Kehoe was advised that Crackneck must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again and, furthermore, that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to trailing.

Cash In Transit – approaching the 500m was hampered and taken wider when Crackneck hung out.
