Rail:         Out 3m from 800m to WP; remainder true

 

STEWARDS:  S A Cullen (Chairman), R W Livingstone, J T Penfold and D M Greer

RACE 1 – Kia Ora Stud Benchmark 78 Handicap 2200m

Mr Lebrock – stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground (4L). Mr Lebrock was then slow to muster speed despite being ridden along. Trainer T Edmonds was advised that prior to racing again Mr Lebrock must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

Get On The Grange – raced keenly in the middle stages and refused to settle and on a number of occasions was steadied away from the heels of San Pablo.

Interlocutor – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Wu Gok – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Last Wish – buffeted between runners at the entrance to the home straight. Near the 300m was hampered by Waking Moment which was taken out by Look At Me which shifted out to improve.

Waking Moment – A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer J P Thompson was advised that prior to racing again Waking Moment must undergo a veterinary examination to determine its fitness.

San Pablo – T Clark advised that San Pablo after travelling well did not run on when under pressure and when it commenced to weaken noticeably in the straight as he felt there may be something amiss with the horse he eased it down. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer A Bott advised that the gelding had pleased leading into today's race. He said that in his view San Pablo may not have run out the journey of today's race. Mr Bott advised that San Pablo will now undergo a thorough veterinary examination, the results of which he will forward to the Stewards. Mr Bott was advised that prior to the horse racing again a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced

Great Glen – when questioned regarding the performance, H Bowman explained that whilst his mount raced in a prominent position during the race it failed to travel comfortably at any stage and when placed under pressure inside the 500m, was reluctant to improve with runners close to it and due to waywardness did not stretch out fully in the run to the finish.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding, which coughed during the examination, to be displaying a poor post race recovery. 

RACE 2 – Star Turn @Vinery Benchmark 78 Handicap 1100m

Esgrimidor – the gelding, which was fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Refused to jump as the start was effected and took no part in the race. Trainer T Howlett was advised that Esgrimidor must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Ozark – slow to begin.

Land Office - began awkwardly and blundered shortly after the start.

Escebee – began awkwardly and got its head up in the early stages when racing ungenerously.

Ever So Natural – slow to begin and then crowded shortly after the start.  Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

Randiki – raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

Shahrazad – when questioned regarding the performance, J Ford explained that although he was caught wide without cover in the early and middle stages, his mount failed to travel at any stage after laying in initially when placed under pressure at the entrance to the home straight, was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying a poor post race recovery. Trainer J Cummings advised that Shahrazad was not suited by racing wide when resuming from a spell and indicated that he would now freshen the horse up prior to its next race start.

RACE 3 – Segenhoe Stud Woodlands Stakes 1100m

Leaven Of Malice – was slow to begin and then hampered shortly after.

I Am Excited – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Almanzora – T Angland, rider of the filly placed fourth, lodged an objection against Lipizzan (D Panya) being declared second placegetter, alleging interference from the inside the 100m. On the evidence it was established that near the 70m Lipizzan after initially being taken out by Debonairly, continued to shift out and made contact with Almanzora, which was carried slightly wider. Bearing in mind the nature of the interference, the proximity to the winning post, the margin and the manner in which the two horses ran to the finish, as the Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the reference not occurred that Almanzora would have finished ahead of Lipizzan, the objection was dismissed.

African Rainbow – began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with Exceeds.

Exceeds – A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4 – Coolmore Denise's Joy Stakes 1100m

Geneteau – began awkwardly.

 

Smart Amelia – slow to begin.

Infra Dig – slow to begin. Approaching the 300m had to be steadied when crowded by Bella Vino (D Panya) which shifted in abruptly under pressure. Apprentice D Panya was advised to exercise more care.

Eckstein – began awkwardly.

Zumbelina – began awkwardly.

Miss Debutante – hampered at the start when Steady Eddie shifted out.

Once More A Lady – slow to begin and shortly after the start raced in restricted room when Conchita shifted out.

Blowing Kisses – bumped and became unbalanced by The Wasp which hung in near the 600m. Inside the 100m was bumped and became unbalanced by Conchita which was taken in by Smart Amelia which shifted in abruptly.

 

Snitty Kitty – for some distance approaching the 100m shifted out under pressure, made contact with The Wasp and became unbalanced. Zumbelina, which was following, was hampered and was eased as a consequence.

Gibraltar Girl – did not obtain clear running until approaching the 100m and shortly after was again hampered and not able to be tested when Eckstein shifted in when awkwardly placed close to that horse's heels.

Balancing Act – was crowded and steadied near the 100m when carried out by Fickle Folly.

RACE 5 – Inglis 3yo Guineas 1400m

France – to be ridden quieter; settled back. Slow to begin. Near the 200m was checked and taken wider by Calanda which was endeavouring to shift into a narrow run to the outside of Prized Icon which then shifted out slightly.

Mr Sneaky – the gelding, which was fractious behind the barriers, reared and dislodged its rider J Collett, and after galloping a considerable distance escaped the course. Mr Sneaky was a late withdrawal at 2.28pm. J Collett was uninjured. The start of this race was then delayed as officials ensured that Mr Sneaky that there was no danger of the horse re-entering the course during the running of the race. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Mr Sneaky be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 1.30pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:

1st)  France less 19c win and 21c place

2nd) Prized Icon less 14c place

3rd)  Sprite less 18c place

A post race veterinary examination revealed that Mr Sneaky was uninjured.

Ubatuba – slow to begin.

Our Belisa – began awkwardly.

Thaad – slow to begin.

Critical Thinking – raced keenly in the early stages.

Dreamnomore – hung in when placed under pressure at the entrance to the home straight and then when being corrected by its rider near the 300m shifted out resulting in Salsonic being hampered.

Salsonic – hampered near the 300m when Dreamnomore shifted out.

Sprite – laid out in the straight. Near the 100m made contact with Prized Icon due to both runners shifting ground.

Prized Icon – near the 100m made contact with Sprite due to both runners shifting ground.

Calanda – G Schofield (Prized Icon) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a) in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding it along when not clear of Calanda, which was checked and lost its rightful running. G Schofield's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 21 May 2017 to expire on Wednesday 31 May 2017  on which day he may ride. In assessing penalty Stewards were mindful that France, which was racing to the outside of Calanda, had initially shifted in resulting in Calanda racing in restricted room before being corrected by its rider T Angland.

RACE 6 – Yarraman Park – Horsepower Luskin Star Stakes 1300m

Old North – When questioned T Clark explained that after being slow to begin his mount overraced severely in the early stages and would not settle which had a detrimental effect on its finishing performance. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Reiby Rampart – slow to begin. Raced keenly and refused to settle in the early and middle stages.

Sir Bacchus – slow to begin.

Gold Sympathy – hung in in the straight.

Grunderzeit – when placed under pressure inside the 300m hung in.

Sweet Serendipity – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer J Coyle was advised of the provisions of AR53A.

Dream Lane – rider T Harrison was fined $100 under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking her mount on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, 4 more than permitted under the rule.

RACE 7 – Emirates Park Dark Jewel Classic 1400m

Just A Blur – after standing awkwardly in the barriers was slow to begin.

Sweet Redemption – slow to begin. Near the 300m when weakening became unbalanced when bumped by Kinshachi which shifted out under pressure.

I Love It – slow to begin.

Tsaritsa – began awkwardly. Rounding the home turn had to be steadied after being taken wider by Just A Blur, which was carried out by Elle Lou, which was taken out by Serene Majesty (M Dee) which shifted out when not clear. M Dee was reprimanded.

Artistry – was hampered passing the 350m and then inside the 200m was crowded between Kinshachi and All In The Reflexs and had to alter course slightly to continue to go forward. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a small laceration to the off fore leg.

Shillelagh – A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative C Duckworth was advised that prior to Shillelagh racing again a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an ECG, must be produced and the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the stewards.

 

Prompt Response – Prior to correct weight stewards identified from the Stewards Inquiry Room that rider T Berry had struck his mount on 9 occasions prior to the 100m. As stewards were satisfied that Prompt Response had not gained an advantage that warranted consideration be given to lodging an objection correct weight was declared. At a subsequent inquiry T Berry was fined $600 under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking his mount on 9 occasions prior to the 100m.

RACE 8 –  Arrowfield Ortensia Stakes 1100m

Aomen – the gelding, which was standing awkwardly in the barriers, was slow to begin.

 

Aimalac Millie – raced keenly in the early stages.

Big Money – When questioned R Thompson explained that after beginning well his mount travelled strongly throughout the middle stages however when placed under pressure in the home straight was not completely comfortable in the going which was commencing to cut up and was disappointing in its finishing effort. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
