__________

RACE 1:  Team Illawarra Maiden Plate 1000m:

Saycanyousee – began awkwardly. Raced keenly and hung out throughout the early and middle stages.

Tinker Dan – approaching the 900m, had to be steadied when Saycanyousee (M. Kinny) shifted in when not quite clear. M. Kinny will be advised to exercise more care.

Tidy Up – began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

Sulaymanee – began awkwardly.

Kung Chi Domino – App. B. Ryan (He’s Blessed) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that passing the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Tinker Dan (K. Adams), which was carried in and across the running of Kung Chi Domino (App. R. King), which had to be steadied and lost its running. App. B. Ryan’s permit to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on 14 May 2017 and to expire on 19 May 2017 on which day he may ride.

RACE 2:  Spooks Courage Class 1 and Maiden Plate 3YO and Upwards 2000m:

Monasterio – Change of tactics – to be ridden more forward: led. Rider C. Lever reported that the gelding travelled only fairly, was never comfortable in its action and changed stride on a number of occasions. He stated that he placed his mount under pressure from as far out as the 600m, however, on rounding the home turn it was a beaten horse and weakened noticeably over the final 200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Mr S. Page, representing Trainer Mr C. Waller, concurred with the views of the rider with respect to the disappointing performance and was advised that the gelding will be required to trial prior to its next race start.

Kirini – Change of tactics – to be ridden more forward: settled on pace.

Natchwhali – When questioned, App. N. Heywood stated that the filly began well and he was not required to make too much use of his mount to go forward and take up a position just behind the leaders. He added that, although his mount travelled satisfactorily, it was only one-paced until the 300m, at which point it commenced to give ground and he ultimately desisted from riding the filly out. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Mr J. Webb, representing Trainer Mr T. Martin, undertook to report back on the post-race condition of the filly in the days subsequent.

RACE 3: Jones Dental Class 2 Handicap 1400m:

Angharad – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

Red Henno – overraced in the early and middle stages.

Wild Ava – bumped at the start.

Elouera – was crowded on jumping between Stroke Of Eight and Angharad, which began awkwardly and shifted out.

Save The Best – bumped at the start. Overraced in the early stages.

RACE 4:  Austbrokers ABS Strata Maiden Plate 1400m:

Crimson Sun – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Ms R. Hartney, representing Trainer Mr J. Thompson, was advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the gelding’s next race start.

Hayman – change of tactics – to be more forward: after being slow to begin, was ridden vigorously to go forward and took some time to muster speed. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

Profusive – after being boxed, became fractious and struck its head on the front gate. The gelding was then examined by the Club’s veterinary officer who advised that it was unsuitable to race and was therefore withdrawn by order of Stewards at 1.29 p.m. They subsequently ordered that all monies placed on Profusive be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 1.29 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:

1st Rockin’ Red Rocket less 24 cents win, 17 cents place;

2nd Sensacova less 17 cents place;

3rdOz Picasso less 21 cents place.

Mr S. Page, representing Trainer Mr C. Waller, was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record.

Rockin’ Red Rocket – On arrival behind the barriers it was noted that the gelding had shifted its near fore plate and required replating. Rockin’ Red Rocket was then examined by the Club’s veterinary officer and passed fit to start.

Queen’s Pact – App. C. Van Der Werf advised Stewards that, after being slow to begin, Queen’s Pact ran out abruptly and her efforts to correct her mount only exacerbated the shift. Trainer’s representative Mr M. Whiteman was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s record.

Sensacova – began awkwardly and was crowded shortly after the start between Bon Warrior and Hayman.

RACE 5:  Alltech Payroll Maiden Handicap 1200m:

Free Way hung out rounding the first turn.

Grimoire – slow to begin and overraced in the early stages.

Boston Light – When questioned, App. L. Magorrian stated that his instructions were to find cover back in the field from his awkward barrier as the gelding has a tendency to overrace and, as it was wearing blinkers for the first time today, he should do his utmost to ensure his mount settled and travelled comfortably. He added that, after beginning well, he was mindful of his explicit instructions and therefore steadied his mount and took up a position behind midfield with cover. He stated that he was able to secure a position behind Just For You and, approaching and rounding the home turn, rather than shift to the outside of that runner and cover unnecessary ground, he elected to remain behind, albeit some lengths off, that runner. He further said that on straightening he initially elected to proceed to improve to the inside of Just For You and immediately placed his mount under pressure. He said that after passing the 300m, whilst at all times in the lead-up to this point he had clear running, he shifted to the outside of Grimoire to continue improving and his mount closed the race off strongly when under full pressure. Stewards advised App. L. Magorrian that he had erred in not shifting to the outside of Just For You approaching the home turn and improving when the opportunity became available.

Tata Ma Pick – blundered shortly after the start.

Son Of A Fox – slow to begin (2L). Slow to muster. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality. Stable representative Mr S. Hood was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding.

Sheezalair – slow to begin.

RACE 6: Project Dry Hire Colts, Geldings and Entires Benchmark 60 Handicap 1200m:

Brad The Lad – slow to begin.

Dreams Alive – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be shin sore. Trainer Mr M. Tubman advised that Dreams Alive will now be spelled. Acting on this assurance, no further action was taken.

Hypernicus – approaching the 900m was placed in restricted room on the heels of Brad The Lad when Dreams Alive (B. El-Issa) shifted in. B. El-Issa was advised to exercise more care.

Your Witness – began awkwardly.

Canny Palance – J. Victoire, the rider of Smokey Fortune, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that passing the 900m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Canny Palance, which was checked and lost its rightful running. In this incident Frankenbeans was hampered and carried wider. J. Victoire’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on 23 May 2017 and to expire on 2 June 2017, on which day he may ride.

RACE 7:  Escarpade Fillies and Mares Benchmark 60 Handicap 1200m:

Alert By Sea – slow to begin.

Sovereign Eminence – on jumping, was bumped by Tapavino, which began awkwardly and shifted in, and became unbalanced.

Flame Of Love – laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Fast Arli – overraced in the middle stages.

Fournette – after beginning awkwardly, was hampered by Fast Arli, which shifted out slightly. From its wide barrier, the filly was then shifted in to cross behind runners. Fournette, which was closing the race off strongly, raced greenly in the straight and was inclined to shift ground on a number of occasions.

Eagle Stryke – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormality.

RACE 8: Camp Quality Maiden Handicap 1600m:

Prometheus – raced wide without cover throughout.

Make It Easy – slow to begin and shifted out shortly after the start.

Vindex – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Just Shine – passing the 700m had to be steadied from the heels of Numerate.

Word Games – began awkwardly.

Home Run – slow to begin.

Numerate – slow to begin.

Fun For Fergie – passing the 600m, was bumped and carried wider by Just Shine (J. Adams), which shifted out to improve. Leaving the 600m again made contact with that runner when shifting to the outside of Gelug to improve into clear running. J. Adams was advised to exercise more care.

Graciousness – As App. L. Magorrian was overweight, Stewards permitted App. B. Ryan to be substituted as the rider of the filly. App. L. Magorrian was fined $100 under AR120(b). From its wide barrier, Graciousness was steadied and shifted in behind runners. Passing the 1100m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of Just Shine.

Misty Mountain Hop – slow to begin. Approaching the 1000m, while overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of Vindex, which itself was being eased to avoid the heels of Tsubame.
