LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As T Angland was indisposed due to illness, the following rider substitutions were approved:

B Spriggs on Testa View

Race 5

H Bowman on Lieutenant Dan

Race 6

G Schofield on Dixie Chick

RACE 1 – Cressfield Maiden Handicap 1000m

Whitula – as declared rider A Gibbons was indisposed due to illness, permission was granted for P Moloney to be substituted.

Deceptacon – preference to be ridden with cover; led. Was fractious in the barriers, examined by the club's veterinary officer and passed fit to start. Deceptacon then proved reluctant to load resulting in the start being delayed. When questioned in relation to the decision to lead, B Avdulla explained that whilst he was mindful of the connection's wishes to race with cover, after the likely front runners were tardy at the start he found himself in front of the field without effort therefore allowed his mount to stride to the lead.

Locus – reared as the start was effected and lost ground. When questioned G Schofield advised that after his mount was slowly away he was obliged to race at the rear of the field. He added that however Locus was disappointing in that if failed to run on and in his view, may be looking for races over an additional journey. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer T Edmonds concurred with the views of rider G Schofield and advised that he would report to stewards any abnormality with the horse in the days subsequent.

Orry Boy – was hampered and carried wider by Grand Peril which, when shifting to the outside of the heels of Kijito near the 200m, was then carried wider by that horse.

Star Of Monsoon – when questioned in relation to the tactics adopted in the early stages, J Parr explained that with the blinkers off today the connections were hopeful of the colt beginning better than it had at its recent runs and if that were the case he was to make the most of the situation. He said that Star Of Monsoon did begin well and he found himself wide on the track near the 1200m and for this reason he elected to press forward as the option was there for him to obtain a favourable position with cover behind the leaders.

He said after entering the home straight he was held up behind The Reverend Demon and inside Another Larga for a considerable distance, and then passing the 200m was further crowded and had to steady when The Reverend Demon (J Collett) shifted into his path. He then was forced to shift out and as a result of this went to the finish without being fully tested. G Schofield was advised that in the view of the Stewards it was open for him to endeavour to take Assurity wider approaching the home turn and was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query.  J Collett was asked to exercise more care in relation to his shift near the 200m.
