Other Comments / Explanations:

As replacement rider Jamie Mott was delayed en route to the course, Stewards permitted apprentice Beau Mertens to replace him in Race 1 as there were no other riders available and it was a non-claiming race.

Race 1 - Yulong Park Handicap - 1200 metres:

Remember The Name - fractious in the barriers prior to the start and was a little awkward on jumping away.

Anneka - slow to begin.

Play That Song - bumped with Tuskar Brook after shifting in slightly at the start.  Rider Patrick Moloney said he was disadvantaged at the start as his mount wasn’t the best to begin and wasn’t disappointed with the performance, given he had difficulty in the straight to gain clear galloping room.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery.

One More Try - raced ungenerously rounding the home turn.

Tuskar Brook - held up rounding the home turn and then for a major part of the home straight, before angling out to gain clear running inside the 100m.

Race 2 - Chef’s Hat South Melbourne Handicap - 1600 metres:

Lord Macau - connections advised would be ridden with cover; settled on the fence mid-field.

Choisir Socks - after being fractious in its barrier stall underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.  Rider Chris Symons said he didn’t have any specific instructions but it wasn’t his intention to settle at the rear, however his mount began awkwardly and from the draw he was left with no other option other than to go back to gain cover however was disappointing in the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained an abrasion to its off fore fetlock.

Yulong Sheng Long - after being fractious in its barrier stall underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.

Penthouse Poet - rider Craig Williams reported his mount did not respond to his riding and didn’t feel right in its action.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3 - Elvis “Ricky” Thurgood Handicap - 1300 metres:

Central Pass - underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race.   Weakened from the 200m.  Rider Luke Nolen stated his mount, which was first up today, over-raced and would benefit from the run.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Pedrena - tightened for room near the 500m when having to be steadied to avoid the heels of Pedrena which shifted in to take up a position on the fence, when in turn having to avoid the heels of Necklace which shifted in.  Had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

Scoliaro - near the 500m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of Pedrena.   Rider Ben Allen stated his mount wasn’t the best to begin and as a result got too far back and was unable to obtain a lot of racing room in the straight.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Mrs Martin - raced wide without cover.

Classic Diva - had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

Necklace - apprentice Beau Mertens was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in near the 500m when not fully clear of Pedrena.

Race 4 - Chandler Macleod Handicap - 1400 metres:

Denpasar - rider Thomas Sadler was fined $200 under the provisions of AR120(b) for accepting a ride in Race 4 when found to be overweight and having to be replaced.

Thelburg - after being fractious in the tie-up stalls, underwent a precautionary veterinary examination and was passed suitable to race.  Rider Katelyn Mallyon was of the view the gelding performed well, given its big weight and from the wide draw.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Star Fortune - connections advised would be ridden back from the wide gate; restrained at the start and settled last.

Chippenham - raced wide without cover.

The Card Players - raced wide without cover.

Stormsabrewing (NZ) - held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight before being checked near the 200m when still held up for clear running before gaining a run inside the 200m.

Race 5 - Elaren Security Services Handicap - 2100 metres:

Prescience (IRE) - connections advised would be ridden mid-field; rider Craig Newitt reported his mount jumped away awkwardly and subsequently settled further back than he would have liked, which was ultimately towards the rear of the field.

Diamond Meteor - had to be restrained near the 1500m to avoid the heels of Tre Dieci which shifted in when not fully clear.

Tre Dieci - rider Jack Martin was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in at the crossing near the 1500m when not fully clear of Diamond Meteor resulting in that horse having to be restrained to avoid heels.

I Am Ruben - held up from the 500m until near the 300m.

Le Boss - raced wide without cover.

Gran Tryphena - rider Dean Yendall said his mount raced too keenly and was therefore obliged to let his mount stride mid-race.

Presscott (NZ) - rider Dwayne Dunn stated the colt had a good run however was disappointing and there may be something amiss.

Race 6 - Ladbrokes Odds Boost Extra Handicap - 1600 metres:

Rocbolt - rider Dwayne Dunn reported the gelding would benefit from today’s run and may be looking for races of a greater distance than today’s 1600m.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Chloe’s Comet - rider Katelyn Mallyon was of the opinion her mount may be better suited on a track with more give.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Craig Williams (Lopartega) - pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a), the carelessness being that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 400m when not sufficiently clear of Rocbolt resulting in Rocbolt having to be checked to avoid the heels of Lopartega.  Craig Williams had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight April 17th and to expire at midnight April 23rd, a total of eight race meetings (one metropolitan, seven provincial).  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account his guilty plea and good record and that the carelessness was in the low range.

Race 7 - Le Pine Funerals Handicap - 1200 metres:

The Passage - bumped with Banachek on jumping away and then got very unbalanced, shifted back in and made contact with Katsuro.

Epic Moment - jumped in at the start making heavy contact with Mr Tickler.  Then continued to shift in despite the efforts of its rider for a short distance after the start again tightening Mr Tickler.  Inside the 200m hung in quite badly to the point where rider Katelyn Mallyon had to completely stop riding to restrain her mount and prevent it from shifting in and causing interference to Katsuro near the 100m.  Trainer Mr Mick was advised that a formal warning will be placed on the horse’s record for its racing manners today.

Mr Tickler - bumped at the start and tightened shortly after by Epic Moment which jumped in at the start.

Oamaru - over-raced in the early and middle stages.

Ashlor - raced wide without cover.

Liberty Song - apprentice Chelsea Hall was fined $400 under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for using her whip ten times prior to the 100m, which is five times more than permitted under the rules.  Chelsea Hall was further severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using her whip for two consecutive strides prior to the 100m

Banachek - rider Dean Yendall could offer no explanation for the performance, which was below expectations.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis.

Euston Road - rider Declan Bates reported the mare failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing.  Post race endoscopy detected a degree of mucus that may have affected its racing performance and a veterinary clearance is required prior to racing again.

Race 9 - buyaracehorse.com.au Handicap - 1200 metres:

Makatiti (NZ) - slow to begin.  Had to be checked severely off the heels of Themis approaching the 800m, shifted out abruptly and made contact with the hindquarters of Recalculate.  A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a slow recovery.
