WARWICK FARM Trackwork:  Tuesday, 28 November 2017

Tortenhow – Stable representative D Beadman reported that the gelding returned to the stables with blood in its offside nostril following its trackwork session. Mr Beadman was advised that the gelding would be required to gallop or trial over 1000m in the presence of a Steward before racing again.

RACE 1 – TAB Rewards Handicap 1550m

Cajetan – was a late withdrawal at 2.56pm acting on veterinary advice that the gelding had injured itself in its stable late this afternoon. Stable representative N Paine was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding's next race start.

Youngstar – the filly, which abraded its off hind heel en route to the course, was examined by the club's veterinary officer and passed suitable to start. When questioned rider B Avdulla stated that due to the slow tempo he elected to shift out after the 700m in an endeavour to improve and as a consequence raced three wide without cover. He added that Youngstar laid out badly approaching and rounding the home turn and was a beaten horse early in the straight. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up on the condition of the filly with the stable.

Savacool – to be ridden further forward with option to lead; settled midfield. Began awkwardly and shortly after was eased slightly away from the heels of Destiny's Own which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

Destiny's Own – in the early and middle stages was inclined to lay out and raced with its head on the side.

RACE 2 – Book Summer Hospitality Today Handicap 1100m

Gretzky – to be ridden further forward; settled off pace. Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Aeecee Tong De – due to a technical issue with Racing Australia on Wednesday 29 November 2017, Stewards acceded to a late application for the blinkers to be removed from the filly.

Patrina – after being loaded  reared and became cast. Patrina was removed from the barriers, examined by the club's veterinary officer and ruled unsuitable to start. Acting on this advice, Patrina was a late withdrawal at 6.46pm. Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on Patrina be refunded in full and with regard to betting with bookmakers all successful wagers made prior to 6.46pm to be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:

1st)  Aeecee Tong De  less 26c win and 17c place

2nd) Seasons less 24c place

3rd)  Puppet Master  less 14c place

Co-trainer Peter Snowden was advised that Patrina must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Darajilla – approaching the 700m when the tempo steadied had to be checked to avoid the heels of Oria. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be acutely lame in the near hind leg. Stable representative H Devlin was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Darajilla's next race start.

Seasons – approaching the 700m was steadied to avoid the heels of Gretzky when the tempo eased. For some distance approaching and rounding the home turn had to be steadied when held up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Gretzky. Over the final 50 metres when closing the race off strongly hung out and proved difficult to ride out.

Kissing Game – after the 700m left racing wide without cover.

RACE 3 – tab.com.au Handicap 1100m

Twice As Sweet – stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground (3L).

City Boots – began very awkwardly, shifted in and hampered Annatime.

Sugar Bella – shortly after the start was briefly crowded between Duchess Pedrille and Final Trick which shifted in.

Leica's Lass – approaching the 600m was steadied after allowing Flash In The Dark to cross to the lead. As a result Annatime, which was following Leica's Lass had to be checked to avoid the heels of that horse. City Boots, which was following, was steadied as a consequence. Approaching and rounding the home turn was held up and made contact with Final Trick as it endeavoured to shift into clear running between that horse and Flash In The Dark

Annatime –  was checked approaching the 600m and for some distance afterwards raced keenly. Was held up for clear running approaching the 150m at which point the mare was then shifted out across the heels of Leica's Lass but continued to experience difficulty to obtain clear running for the remainder of the race.

Dixie Chick – near the 600m got its head up when being steadied to avoid the heels of Sugar Bella.

Flash In The Dark – When questioned G Schofield said he had to make some use of his mount in the early stages to cross and lead. He said after the 700m he was able to steady Flash In The Dark and have it race at an even tempo. He added the mare commenced to weaken over the final 100 metres which was reflective of the early pace that he set having to cross runners approaching the 700m. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4 – Win $10K Cash At Canterbury Nights 1100m

Whypeeo – was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was crowded between Boyish, which began awkwardly and shifted in, and Trust Me.

Boyish – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider apprentice J Innes Jnr explained that in the early stages he was caught wide and without cover and as his mount was unable to show sufficient speed to race prominently, he elected to steady after the 900m and take up a position midfield with cover. He said Boyish when successful at its two most recent starts had been able to lead and he believed it did not appreciate racing in amongst other runners tonight. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities however Boyish had lost its near hind plate. Trainer G Ryan concurred with the views of the rider and indicated that Boyish may have lost some of its natural early speed and he may step the horse up in distance whereby it should benefit by being able to travel in front in races that are run at a more even tempo. Stewards will follow up on the progress of Boyish in the days subsequent.

Elle A Walking – shortly after the start was crowded when tightened between Trust Me and Fermanagh Lad which shifted out.

Prince Mayted – When questioned rider apprentice A Adkins stated that he was instructed to have the horse raced prominently tonight. He said however Prince Mayted was unable to match the early speed of the race and when the leading division were crossed by Whypeeo his mount settled slightly further back than he had hoped.

Brockton Punch – When questioned regarding the horse racing prominently, trainer T Sergi stated that it was not his intention to have the gelding racing as close as it was tonight. He said  his expectation was to have Brockton Punch ridden in a middle field position and he was surprised by the early speed that the gelding displayed. Stewards in the circumstances were satisfied that Brockton Punch after beginning well was able to assume a forward position without being pressured to do so. Raced wide and without cover after the 700m.

Fermanagh Lad – despite being ridden vigorously throughout the early and middle stages was unable to cross runners to its inside and raced wide without cover throughout the race and weakened noticeably in the run home whereby its rider eased the gelding down over the final 200 metres. Stewards ruled that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to it next race start. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Samadoubt – B Shinn, rider of Whypeeo, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 137(a) in that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of Samadoubt which was steadied and lost its rightful running. B Shinn's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 10 December 2017 and to expire on Wednesday 27th December 2017 on which day he may ride. Rider apprentice J Van Overmeire explained that the horse, which was resuming from a spell today, travelled satisfactorily to the home turn. He said Samadoubt became under pressure, near the 500m failed to respond and was somewhat disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the later stages. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 5 – TAB Handicap 1550m

Jaunty – when the start was effected reared slightly, lost ground and was then shifted in behind runners. In the early stages of the straight experienced difficulty in obtaining clear running. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Nacho Libre – after being slow to begin was steadied and shifted in behind runners.

Prince Roo – raced wide without cover until approaching the 800m.

Blanco Cara – was briefly crowded for room by He's A Given which shifted in momentarily.

RACE 6 – Australian Turf Club Handicap 1250m

Dream I Can – to be ridden back from its wide draw; settled back.

Tivoli Street – blundered shortly after the start. Near the 200m bumped with No Escape. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the near fore heel.

Malaise – from its wide barrier was steadied shortly after the start and shifted in behind runners.

No Escape – near the 200m bumped with Tivoli Street.

Vega – throughout the race travelled wide without cover.

Serene Miss – When questioned apprentice R King explained that after boxseating she became concerned that Orrstar, which was leading the event, would not provide her with an opportunity to gain clear running so she elected approaching the 600m to shift away from the fence and endeavour to obtain a run to the outside of Bratislava. She said, however, that No Escape, which was racing directly to her outside, maintained its line and she was obliged to remain racing behind Bratislava. She said after the 500m Tivoli Street improved into the position that she had vacated earlier and on straightening after receiving interference had to check her mount. She said that due to the circumstances that she had outlined, Serene Miss was then shuffled back to the rear of the field and lost momentum and faced too great a tasdk. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 7 – Schweppes Evening Star 1100m

Satirical Magic – After arriving on course the gelding, which had struck its head in the float whilst being transported to the course, underwent a veterinary examination and was ruled unfit to start. Acting on this advice the gelding was a late withdrawal at 7.05pm. Trainer D Mills was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Satirical Magic's next race start.

Accepted – Prior to declaration of correct weight Stewards viewed the footage of the finish to ascertain whether there were sufficient grounds to lodge an objection on behalf of fourth placegetter Accepted against Pick Me Up being declared third placegetter. When it was established that Accepted, which had been held up when disappointed for running to the inside of Pick Me Up, which shifted in when not quite clear, Stewards declined to exercise their powers AR164 and correct weight was declared. Accepted from its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer G Moore was advised of the provisions of AR53A.

Fiery Heights – when questioned regarding the performance, T Angland explained that his mount had a comfortable run throughout the event and although three wide raced with cover. He said that when asked for an effort rounding the home turn he shifted to the outside of Your Way however his mount became awkward on the heels of that runner, failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the final 200 metres.  A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Absolute Ripper -  when commencing to give ground approaching the 200m shifted out slightly and at the same time Il Mio Destino (A Hyeronimus) rolled in briefly resulting in Absolute Ripper having to be checked. A Hyeronimus was advised to exercise more care in future. A post race veterinary examination of the mare revealed it to have bled from both nostrils for the first time. Trainer G Moore was advised of the provisions of AR53A. On pulling up Absolute ripper dislodged rider app R King who did not suffer any apparent injury.

Your Way – rider apprentice J Overmeire explained that his mount was left without a finishing effort after having to travel wide and without cover for the majority of the event. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 8 – ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap 1900m

Follow Suit – slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Crosley Hotshot – despite being ridden along aggressively in the early stages failed to muster speed. On straightening was inclined to shift ground and became awkwardly placed on the heels of Chief Kidder.

Ashkannd – in the early and middle stages raced wide without cover.

Lightning Nic – approaching the winning post on the first occasion got its head up and raced keenly. When continuing to race keenly passing the winning post on the first occasion was steadied to avoid the heels of Liffy (G Schofield). G Schofield will be advised to exercise more care.

Chief Kidder – leaving the straight on the first occasion was inclined to race keenly and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Tradtri which shifted in when not quite clear.

Praise Songs – near the 500m had to be steadied when disappointed for a run between Miss Tickles and Calypso Bay which shifted out.

Tradtri – when placed under pressure near the 200m shifted out and bumped Ashkannd.

Miss Tickles – approaching the 1700m was tightened for room inside Ashkannd which was shifting in despite the efforts of its rider and then was taken in further by Uncle Sugar which was carried in slightly by Liffy (G Schofield). G Schofield was reprimanded. In arriving at this decision Stewards were of the view that Miss Tickles was already placed in restricted room due to Ashkannd shifting in and that the slight shift from Liffy then aggravated the incident.  Near the winning post had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Lightning Nic (K O'Hara) which shifted out when not clear. K O'Hara was reprimanded and advised in future she should stop riding and straighten her mounts.

Calypso Bay – when questioned regarding the disappointing performance, B Avdulla stated that from his wide barrier he was instructed to rid e the horse conservatively. He said Calypso Bay travelled well and passing the 600m commenced to improve into the race and he was confident that Calypso Bay would close off well. He said, however, that approaching the home turn when Crosley Hotshot shifted out and made contact with his mount Calypso Bay then came under pressure and despite his endeavours to have Calypso Bay improve, the gelding failed to respond and weakened noticeably over the concluding stages. Trainer K Lees reported that the gelding would now be spelled.
