Baster was questioned regarding his riding of the gelding particularly over the final 200 metres.  S. Baster stated that after having to check off the heels of the tiring Eximius passing the 300 metres, his mount lost all momentum and after Chamois Road shifted out in front of him shortly after, he did not feel that there was any point in urging his mount along over the final 150 metres.  He further stated that his mount did not appreciate the track conditions in the straight, and this added to the reasons for him not riding his mount out.  Whilst Stewards conceded that Hazzabell did suffer significant interference passing the 300 metres and further took on board S. Baster’s other explanations, however they advised him that in their opinion he should have ridden his mount along over the final 150 metres where there was an opportunity to do so.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

T. Hope (Proud Wolf) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR145 for weighing in in excess of 0.5kg overweight.  T. Hope had her permit to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight 26th November 2017 and to expire midnight 10th December 2017, a total of 16 race meetings (5 metropolitan, 11 provincial).  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account her guilty plea, her record, the circumstances surrounding the incident, as well as the fact it was beaten for 1st by a long neck and Stewards were of the opinion that this may have affected the result of the race. Further the details surrounding the matter were that T. Hope weighed out at 52.4kg and weighed back in at 53.2kg, therefore taking into account that the girth was changed and a girth cover added (see below S. Hope), T. Hope still would have weighed back in a full 1kg over her declared weight.

S. Hope (Proud Wolf) pleaded guilty to a charge under AR118A for changing the girth and adding a girth cover to the gear of Rider T. Hope after she had weighed out.  In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the circumstances surrounding the incident and that the weight differential was only 0.2kg which did not impact on the charge issued to apprentice T. Hope.
