LATE RIDING CHANGES:

As apprentice B Ryan suffered a fall in Race 2, the following rider substitutions were approved:

RACE 1 – Happy Birthday Phil Brandel 2yo Maiden Handicap 1000m

Polhampton – the filly underwent a veterinary examination after trainer N Mayfield-Smith reported that it had sustained a minor abrasion to a leg and was passed suitable to start. Began awkwardly. From its wide barrier shifted in behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

 

Nuke – slow to begin.

 

Coach – began awkwardly making contact with the offside partition of the barrier. From its wide barrier shifted in behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover.

 

Capitulate – began awkwardly.

 

King – shortly after the start was bumped by Fake which shifted out. Hung out rounding the home turn and made the turn awkwardly.

 

Fake – raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn.

 

Let Me Sleep On It – raced wide without cover throughout.

 

RACE 2 – Bella Group Services Maiden Plate 2100m

Cool One – bounded on jumping and shortly shifted back in behind runners to obtain cover. Checked and carried wider near the 400m.

 

Salon Miss – shortly after the start was crowded for room between Fencourt and Kadoma Man both of which shifted ground. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Stewards intend to open an inquiry into the reasons for rider apprentice B Ryan being dislodged near the 400m. App B Ryan, who was ruled unfit to give evidence today, B Spriggs (Cool Dude), M Bell (Ivoryman), G Buckley (Cool One) J Penza (Fencourt) and B El-Issa (Cheung Fun) were advised that they would be required to attend the inquiry which is set down to be heard prior to the first race at Kembla Grange on Saturday 3 December 2017. Apprentice Ryan was advised that he would be required to furnish a medical clearance.

 

Kadoma Man – From its wide barrier shifted in behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover. Rider apprentice J Van Overmeire advised that he was instructed to ride the horse quietly today. Trainer M Smith confirmed that the instructions were for Kadoma Man to be ridden quiet and these were consistent with the instructions issued at the horse's most recent start at Canberra on 7th November 2017. Mr Smith indicated that on that occasion the horse, in his view settled too far forward and this was inconsistent for the manner in which the horse has been ridden previously. Notwithstanding this Mr Smith was advised of his obligation to notify Stewards of any change in riding tactics.

 

Ivoryman – raced keenly in the early stages. Hampered when bumped on the hindquarter near the 400m.

 

Fencourt – Checked and carried wider near the 400m losing significant ground and was not fully tested thereafter.

 

If By Chance – trainer S Farley advised that the horse would now be spelled. Mr Farley was told a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding, which was beaten 26 lengths, which was deemed to be poor performance.

 

RACE 3 – Canadian Club Spiced Class 1 Handicap 1600m

Off The Dial – shortly after the start was checked was crowded for room between Terwilliker and Regine both of which shifted ground.

 

Allcash – slow to begin. From its wide barrier shifted in behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover.

 

Seine Net – rounding the home turn was disappointed when attempting to improve into a narrow run between Coonawarra and Regine.

 

Regine – laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.

 

Ramla Bay – trainer R Davies reported that Ramla Bay had sustained laces to its near hind leg and was lame. Mr Davies was advised that he must furnish a medical clearance prior to Ramla Bay's next race start.

 

RACE 4 – Bella Group Services Benchmark 65 Handicap 1600m

Bolord – slow to begin. Caught wide without cover throughout.

 

Mr Smart – slow to begin.

 

Sculptures – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

 

Free Way – when questioned regarding the performance, rider G Buckley explained that his mount overraced in the lead throughout the early and middle stages and as a consequence failed to let down when placed under pressure with the 61.5 kilogram impost. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Peter John – Rider M Bell stated that his instructions had been to be positive and after the gelding began well he allowed it to stride forward. He said approaching the first turn he restrained when Freeway improved to his inside and took the lead, however Peter John raced somewhat keenly throughout the early and middle stages and as a result did not finish its race off. M Bell dropped his whip near the 150m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Trainer J Sargent was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to Peter John's next race start.

 

RACE 5 – Troy Heavy Haulage Maiden Handicap 11200m

Frogmarch – the gelding, which was resuming from a long spell, underwent a veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start. Rider S Lisnyy advised that he was under no specific instructions however the gelding, which was resuming from a lengthy spell with new connections, began particularly well and he allowed it to stride forward and was able to lead without placing undue pressure on his mount. S Lisnyy was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.

 

Parisians – shortly after the start was crowded for room between Auerbach which shifted out and Explosive Missile, which was taken in by Tinker Dan which shifted in after beginning awkwardly.

 

Explosive Missile – From its wide barrier shifted in behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover.

 

Innately – Stewards inquired into the reasons for rider A Layt being dislodged shortly after the start. Evidence was taken from A Layt who advised that Innately began somewhat awkwardly and he felt it may have made contact with the nearside portion of its barrier which moved his foot in the iron. He added that when he attempted to ride Innately forward he felt his left foot slipped from the iron and as a result he was dislodged. As the stewards decided the matter was accidental it was concluded on that basis.

 

Ruling Legend – near the 900m when racing tight to the inside of I Am Awesome (A Gibbons) became badly unbalanced, shifted in and lost significant ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that whilst the room afforded Ruling Legend was tight there was nonetheless room for a horse to remain racing there, A Gibbons was advised to exercise more care. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. When questioned rider B El-Issa advised that Ruling Legend raced greenly throughout and after the horse became badly unbalanced in an earlier incident did not travel comfortably thereafter and failed to finish its race off. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Auerbach – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative C Heuston was advised that prior to Auerbach racing again a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an ECG, must be produced prior to the gelding barrier trialing to the satisfaction of the stewards.

 

RACE 6 – Bella Group Services 3yo Maiden Plate 1100m

In The Zone – Trainer G Frazer was fined $50 under AR59A for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identity Card when requested to do so. Mr Frazer was advised that the Thoroughbred Identity Card must be presented prior to that colt being permitted to race again. Slow to begin and failed to muster speed in the early stages.

 

Missile Attack – slow to begin. Passing the 700m was briefly tightened for room by More Than A Samba which hung in despite the efforts of its rider.

 

Little Steiny – raced wide without cover throughout.

 

League Of Nations – was bumped on jumping by Lucere which shifted in.

 

Lucere – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

 

I'm A Legend – was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

 

Sanity – when questioned regarding the performance J Penza explained that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure from the 300m did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in its failure to finish its race off. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

More Than A Samba – Near the 500m was briefly tightened for room by Velocano which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 150m was steadied when tightened for room between Lucere and Zigzagzou (C Van Der Werf) which shifted out. Apprentice C Van Der Werf was told to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

 

 

 

 

RACE 7 – Canadian Club And Dry Class 2 Handicap 1000m

Earzaburning - the gelding, which was resuming from a long spell, underwent veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start. After shifting out shortly after the start and bumping with Neretva, became unbalanced for a short distance.

 

Fast Arli – after beginning slowly was crowded for room shortly after between Le Dejeuner and Pilot Error.

 

Pilot Error – after beginning awkwardly was badly hampered between Fast Arli and Neretva which was taken out by Earzaburning after that runner shifted out.

 

RACE 8 – Canadian Club Classic Benchmark 65 Handicap 1200m

Never Back Down – as declared rider A Layt was stood down injured after riding in Race 5 permission was granted for P King  to be substituted. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

 

Hooge – the mare, which was resuming from a long spell, underwent veterinary examination and was passed suitable to start.

 

Kopite – began awkwardly and shortly after was crowded for room between Koonunga and Stradance which shifted out. Over the final 100 metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of Stradance and unable to be fully tested.

 

Social Pirate – began awkwardly. From its wide barrier shifted in behind runners shortly after the start to obtain cover.

 

Sensacova – was bumped on jumping by Aisance which shifted in. Near the 500m was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Never Back Down.

 

Aisance – rider J Penza could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the filly which failed to let down when placed under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Koonunga – rounding the home turn Koonunga was checked when awkwardly placed on the heels of Stradance which hung out despite the efforts of its rider. Koonunga was awkwardly placed for some distance thereafter when rider J Taylor shifted her mount back in to avoid interference to Kandy which was racing to her outside.

 

Pecans – When questioned regarding Pecans settling  further forward, rider M Bell advised that he was unable no specific instructions however Pecans, which was up in distance today began particularly well and when it showed speed to avoid being caught wide was allowed to stride forward and ultimately raced outside the leader Stradance.

 

Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners:
