Race 4:  Class 1 & Maiden Plate 1750m 

Sunday Swindler – rider S Guymer pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he struck his mount 11 times prior to the 100m, 6 more than permitted under the rule. S Guymer's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 12 November 2017 and to expire on Sunday 19 November 2017 on which day he may ride.

                                                                                                            

  

RACE 1 –  PRD Hunter Valley 4yo & Up Maiden Plate 1850m

Geegeeaye – after being slow to begin was steadied and shifted in behind runners to obtain cover. Making the first turn near the 1700m had to steady after pulling its way up to the inside of Dashing Special.

 

Dashing Special – When questioned regarding the gelding settling further back today, apprentice J Van Overmeire stated that he was instructed to lead today. He said with the blinkers off today his mount began only fairly and as a result he had to ride vigorously in an attempt to take up a forward position however when Mister Rossa, which was drawn to his inside, commenced to lay out he was unable to improve forward into a position between that runner and Liasion and as a result Dashing Special was obliged to settle further back than intended.

 

Ivoryman – When questioned regarding the gelding leading today, rider M Bell stated that he was instructed to be forward. He said after being slightly slow to begin he rode his mount forward and when runners to his inside did not show intent, rather than being caught wide he elected to push forward and ultimately assumed the lead near the 1600m. Trainer J O'Shea confirmed the nature of the instructions issued to M Bell and added that at it previous start at Wyong on 22 October 2017 he felt that the gelding raced very one paced and today, stepping up in trip to 1850 and being ridden further forward in a race that, in his opinion, lacked speed, that the gelding would be better suited being ridden in that manner. Mr O'Shea was reminded of his obligation to notify Stewards of any change in riding tactics.

 

Skifield – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, rider J Penza stated that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages however when placed under pressure on straightening his mount failed to respond to his riding and did not run on in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg. Stable representative D Podlewski was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to Skifield's next race start.

 

RACE 2 – Hunter Jaguar Maiden Handicap 1400m

Korean – slow to begin.

 

Sckam – slow to begin.

 

On Parade – laid out when placed under pressure over the final 250 metres.

 

Galaxy Jak – when the pace commenced to slacken in the middle stages the gelding commenced to race keenly. Laid in under pressure over the final 200 metres.

 

Sekiyama –  When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the mare, rider J Penza stated that his mount travelled well in the lead, however when Poetic Charmer commenced to improve to his outside approaching the home turn his mount became under pressure and consequently weakened noticeably over the final 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative G Thompson was advised that prior to Sekiyama racing again a veterinary certificate of fitness, including the results of an ECG, must be produced prior to the mare barrier trialing to the satisfaction of the stewards.

 

RACE 3 – McKanna Fabrications CG&E Maiden Plate 1200m

Perfect Style – began awkwardly. When questioned rider A Bullock stated that the only explanation he could off for the gelding's disappointing performance today was that Perfect Style failed to run out the distance of 1200 metres. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Snitzel Day – began awkwardly.

 

Sagan Star – slow to begin.

 

Cormac – slow to begin.

 

Thrilled – was badly held up in the early part of the straight and near the 300m was steadied when endeavouring to improve into a run between Oxford Gem and Echo Jet and was unable to obtain clear running until passing the 250m.

 

RACE 4 – Huxley Hill group F&M Maiden Plate 1200m

Think Roses – was fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly. Raced greenly throughout.

 

Birdsong – slow to begin and shortly after the start was shifted in behind runners to obtain cover.

 

Citizen's Arrest – when the pace slackened passing the 700m was steadied away from the heels of Madam Giselle.

 

Spirited Belle – near the 400m was steadied when disappointed for a run between Madam Giselle and Citizen's Arrest. As a result Spirited Belle had to shift back to the inside of Madam Giselle to improve into clear running.

 

Shivano – raced wide without cover throughout.

 

Wide Spread Panic – lost its near fore plate during the race.

 

RACE 5 – Steel City FP Class 1 Handicap 1400m

Bull Market – laid out under pressure over the final 100 metres.

 

Ramla Bay – A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have been galloped on on  its near hind leg.

 

RACE 6 – The Garis Group Benchmark 60 Handicap 1600m

The Iron Maiden – slow to begin.

 

Celtic Tiger – was slow to begin. Raced keenly during the middle stages.

 

California Wisdom – raced wide without cover.

 

Spinning Gold – laid in under pressure over the final 250 metres.

 

Triple Hero – when questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, rider J Penza stated that he was able to establish a comfortable lead throughout whereby his mount travelled well. He said however that when placed under pressure near the 500m his mount failed to respond to his urgings and weakened badly in the straight. He added that in his opinion the gelding was not suited by today's soft track conditions. A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer N Nugent concurred with the views of rider J Penza that the gelding had not appreciated today's soft going and advised that Triple Hero will now be spelled.

 

RACE 7 – Roberts Legal Class 2 Handicap 900m

Twice As Sweet – slow to begin.

 

Sepae – slow to begin.

 

Snipex Abaa – began awkwardly.

 

Kelsha Begs – approaching the home turn was awkwardly placed inside the heels of Hellhole.

 

Sleepwalker – A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

RACE 8 – Jirsch Sutherland Benchmark 60 Handicap 1200m

Caribou – Stewards acceded to an application from trainer S Aspery for the mare to be withdrawn due to today's soft track conditions. Caribou was withdrawn at  4.17pm. In acceding to Mr Asprey's request Stewards were mindful that the horse was beaten 21 lengths at its previous start at Port Macquarie on 6 October 2017 on a soft track. Mr Aspery also advised that he had previously scratched Caribou when the track was rated soft or worse.

 

Courtly – slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.

 

Ready And Flying – slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied and shifted back in behind runners to find cover.

 

Vinnie Power – bumped shortly after the start.

 

Zroya – bumped shortly after the start .

 

Silent Dream – raced wide throughout without cover.

 

Sammi Jain – A post race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
