Sunday meeting preview
10 Sep 2017 | By Larry Foley - kranjiracing.com
Sunday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

An excellent Sunday meeting with 10 local races (and one Korean simulcast), highlighted by the Group 3 Jumbo Jet Trophy over 1400m (race 9).

And the race itself looks a beauty with old champ WAR AFFAIR heading the ratings and an up-and-coming star in COUNTOFMONTECRISTO who looks a big hope on the “minimum”.

The 4YO gets only half-a-kilo relief on the others runners at the Weight-for-Age conditions but with six wins from seven career starts - two at 3YO Group level - connections would be confident he is more than up to the task.

Form analysts won’t miss the fact his only defeat was in the Guineas behind FOREVER YOUNG, given that form has been franked at WFA level when the American-bred 3YO beat WAR AFFAIR in the Chairman’s Trophy over 1800m only four weeks ago.

But while you could make a case for both COUNTOFMONTECRISTO and WAR AFFAIR, the field has depth and class beyond it’s Group 3 status with the likes of ALIBI, LIM’S CRUISER, ELITE EXCALIBUR and DEBT COLLECTOR all having strong winning chances.

Expect a busy finish but the best horse should win.

Best Bets: (GALILEO’S APPROACH race 8, win), (YU LONG EMPEROR race 3, each way) and (THE WIND race 6, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1), race 9 (1 and 13), race 10 (1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10 and 12) and race 11 (1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 14).

Please note the odds listed are "reference odds" only.
Race 1
Selections; 2 DASH - 10 PETITE VICTOIRE - 5 HIGHLIGHT - 3 KING STEAD
A poor quality Class 5 to open proceedings with most being in poor form. DASH is yet to place in five starts but has some speed and this class and distance may suit; he can show up from the good gate in this weak field. PETITE VICTOIRE has shown improvement at recent starts and this distance may suit; he is poorly drawn but has speed and the senior rider Olivier Placais may help. HIGHLIGHT has changed stables and while he would prefer 1200m, he is suited in this company and should be running on late. KING STEAD disappointed last start after running on well over this trip at his previous outing and could improve for Michael Rodd. Market best watch on the others.
1 RACING TALENT ** Will find this a lot easier than recent outings but may find this too short. 25
2 DASH *** Yet to place in five starts but has some speed and this class and distance should suit. 5.00
3 KING STEAD *** Disappointed last start after running on well over this trip (in this Class) at previous outing. Could improve for Michael Rodd. 5.00
4 PRINCE FERDINAND ** Excuses last start when dropping to Class 5 and worth another look although like to see over longer. 20
5 HIGHLIGHT *** Has changed stables. Would prefer 1200m but in very solid form and gets his chance from gate 1. 5.00
6 ELITE GUSTAVO ** Has changed stables and recent trial showed improvement. Race form poor but watch market. 10
7 NOVA STAR ** Resuming and has had numerous trials. Last and only win was 19 starts ago but this race would suit. 25
8 RAMZES * Dropping back to 1000m from 1800m after disappointing when supported. Might find these too sharp. 25
9 BONJOUR BOB ** Took a long time to win Maiden and has only battled since. Has some speed but not helped by the gate. 10
10 PETITE VICTOIRE *** Has shown improvement at recent starts and this distance may suit. Poorly drawn but has speed and senior rider may help. 4.00
11 GOOD BET * One placing in 23 starts and poorly drawn. Tested. 50
12 SECONDWAVE * Disappointed last start and blinkers go back on. Occasionally runs on but has only one win in 47 starts. 25
13 SGFIFTY * Yet to place in 18 starts and has been distanced at recent outings. 50
Race 2
Selections; 11 SHAMROCK - 8 MR CLINT - 6 EL CHAPO - 2 FLASH
Very little to excite on revealed form in this Restricted Maiden and watch the market on the first starters. SHAMROCK had support and was checked at debut; he should be improved and can be on the speed throughout. SILENT BOSS showed improvement last start, should get a good run throughout and can get in the finish. Of the first starters, the former Laurie Laxon (now Lee Freedman) trained MR CLINT has shown ability at his Official trial; from the middle gate he should be prominent. FLASH has trialled solidly and could show up for Manoel Nunes. EL CHAPO has trialled soundly and gets blinkers at debut. Watch the market on these three. Of the rest, SILVER SKY had support but disappointed last start returning with lacerated leg; he has trialled since, may prefer getting back onto turf and could show up.
1 SILVER SKY ** Had support but disappointed last start returning with lacerated leg. Has trialled since and may prefer getting back onto turf. 10
2 FLASH *** By Hellvelyn. Half-brother to 4 minor UK winners. Trials have been solid and gets Manoel Nunes. Watch market. 6.00

5 DON DE LA VEGA * Did not show up at debut. Most recent trial was fair and tongue-tie comes off. Might need longer. 16
6 EL CHAPO *** By Niagara. Half-brother to winner Lady Hass. Has had plenty of trials and most recent couple good enough to go close on debut. 10
7 GOOD WARRIOR * By Niagara. Half-brother to 5-time winner Pamina and 4 other minor winners in NZ. Has shown nothing in numerous trials. Watch market. 33
8 MR CLINT *** By Power. Trials have been good enough to win on debut. 6.00
9 MY MONEY * By He's Remarkable. Half-brother to NZ Group 3 winner Spare A Fortune and 3 other winners. Has had numerous trials of moderate quality. Watch market. 33
10 NICATOR * Only battled at debut. Improvement needed. 20
11 SHAMROCK *** Had support and was checked at debut. Should be improved and can be on the speed throughout. 3.00

Race 3
Selections; 12 YU LONG EMPEROR - 2 GOLD REWARD - 5 ACE HARBOUR - 3 CAI POH WANG
A very moderate group of maidens with only a few serious winning hopes. YU LONG EMPEROR was held up last start and ran on late; he should be suited here and prove hard to hold off. GOLD REWARD has placed at all five outings but is yet to break through; blinkers go on and with Michael Rodd to ride from a good gate, he gets another chance. ACE HARBOUR is improving with racing and suited this distance; he gets blinkers and should be handy throughout. Of the rest, CAI POH WANG had issues last start but has rarely been far away in 10 outings while RAPTOR had support and returned not striding out freely last start so worth another look.
1 ANGHIARI ** Has battled since resuming but should be fitter and has previously placed at this trip. Should be prominent. 6.00
2 GOLD REWARD *** Has placed at all five outings but yet to break through. Blinkers go on and gets another chance with Michael Rodd to ride from a good gate. 3.50
3 CAI POH WANG *** Had cardiac issues last start when supported in similar affair. Give another chance although wide gate a concern. 6.00
4 HIGH STREET * By the sire of Winx and Zenyatta out of a VRC Oaks winning mare but yet to place in 12 starts and hasn't beaten a runner home at past three outings. Tested. 50
5 ACE HARBOUR *** Improving with racing and suited this distance. Gets blinkers and should be handy throughout. 6.00
6 ALRINA * One-paced but battles away and should be suited this distance. Not helped by the gate. 16
7 FIRST PASSTHEPOST * Dour and has only battled to date. Needs to improve. 33
8 PACIFIC PEARL * Resuming and trials have been moderate. Has shown little to date. 33
9 RAPTOR ** Had support and returned not striding out freely. Distance may suit but likes to go forward and not helped by the gate. 10
10 YELLOW GOLD * Yet to beat a runner home in three outings. 50
11 LOKELANI * Has shown little since resuming but may find this distance more suitable. 33
12 YU LONG EMPEROR *** Held up last start and ran on late. Should be suited here and prove hard to hold off. 4.50
13 SAINT LINCOLN ** Battles away and this distance suits. Should be thereabouts. 12
14 GREEN RUTILE * Has struggled since resuming and needs to improve. 33
Race 4
Selections; 10 SILKINO - 1 THE COSMOS - 5 NATURAL IMPULSE - 7 UNCLE LUCKY
A competitive Class 4 with some consistent sprinters involved. THE COSMOS is suited by this class and distance, should be handy throughout and hard to hold off. UNCLE LUCKY is in form and his recent trial was strong; with blinkers off he can be prominent from the good gate. NATURAL IMPULSE won this class and distance last start; he rises 2.5kg but should be prominent throughout. The wild card is the maiden SILKINO who ran on well to just miss in this class when resuming. He should be improved (and the form around Kratos will more than hold up) and with Manoel Nunes to ride can be in the finish. Others that could show up include MY HORSE who has only battled at recent starts but is suited by this trip as well as the speedy pair PEACH BOWL and ELITE WARRIOR.
1 THE COSMOS *** Had every chance last start similar affair. Should be handy throughout and right in the mix again. 3.00
2 COUNTRY QUACK * Resuming. Rider change in book to V Duric. Previous form fair but has not shown up at recent trials. Watch market. 20
3 ELITE WARRIOR * Only battled late last start so blinkers off, pacifiers on. Should be prominent throughout. 14
4 MY HORSE ** Suited this trip, always in the mix without being a threat and could show up from the good gate. 10
5 NATURAL IMPULSE *** Won this class and distance last start. Rises 2.5kg but should be prominent throughout. 6.00
6 PEACH BOWL ** Disappointed last start but freshened and recent trial OK (late). Market best guide. 14
7 UNCLE LUCKY *** In form and recent trial was strong. With blinkers off can be prominent from the good gate. 5.00
8 NATIVE LUCK * Gets blinkers but has shown nothing at both Singapore outings. 33
9 WAR CITI ** Resuming. Only win was at this trip and tongue-tie comes off. Most recent trial was solid. Watch market. 16
10 SILKINO *** Maiden who ran on well to just miss in this class when resuming. Should be improved and with Manoel Nunes to ride can be in the finish. 6.00
11 THUNDER CAT * Has struggled at recent outings and returned not striding out freely last start. Needs to improve. 33
12 SOUTHERN CHIEF * Recent form moderate and needs easier. 50
Race 5
Selections; - - -
SIMULCAST FROM KOREA.
Race 6
Selections; 1 KATAGAS - 2 THE WIND - 3 LEGENDARY SUN - 5 ROYAL GUARD
Another competitive Class 4 with quite a few chances. KATAGAS is a class dropper, gets blinkers and will find this easier than recent outings; he is awkwardly drawn but the distance suits. LEGENDARY SUN has been improved by two Singapore outings. He was ridden aggressively last start and should be prominent throughout again. ROYAL GUARD is yet to win in Singapore but he has placed at five of six outings on this surface and he should be handy throughout. Of the others with winning hopes, THE WIND could be a good value option and had enough excuses last start to follow while AUGUSTANO broke through last start and is worth another look. The emergency ELISE is also some show if he gets a start while PARKER and FLASH ONE at value can also be considered.
1 KATAGAS *** Class dropper. Gets blinkers and will find this easier than recent outings. Can win. 6.00
2 THE WIND *** Excuses last start and has looked due to show up in a race like this. Follow. 14
3 LEGENDARY SUN *** Improved by two Singapore outings. Was ridden aggressively last start and should be prominent throughout. 3.00
4 AUGUSTANO *** Broke maiden status last start. Shows promise but this is harder and awkwardly drawn. 10
5 ROYAL GUARD *** Yet to win in Singapore but has placed five of six on this surface and should be handy throughout. 5.00
6 FLASH ONE *** Never involved before running on well last start and trials well enough to consider each-way. 16
7 LIM'S STARDOM ** Won in Class 5 when resuming. This is harder but should get a good run throughout and could show up. 25
8 ALARANCH ** Racing well in Class 5. This is harder but has speed and should be prominent. 10
9 OPTIMUM STAR ** Nothing last start but will appreciate dropping back from the mile. 25
10 PARKER *** Flew home to just miss over 1100m last start and have to respect on that effort. 10
11 WHITE COFFEE * 10YO who has been battling. 33
12 MOON CHARM * Resuming. Only win was on turf over 1600m. Might need easier. 50
13 ELISE *** Led and caught in last stride this class and distance last start. Should be prominent throughout from the good gate. 5.00
14 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE ** Always some show on the poly but might need easier. 33
Race 7
Selections; 4 DISTINCTIVE DARCI - 1 OLYMPIC ANTHEM - 3 VIVIANO - 7 THE GENERAL
A competitive BM97 where the quality drops away after the higher rated horses. DISTINCTIVE DARCI had excuses last start on the turf (not striding), has won six of eight poly outings and three of four at this distance; he will be hard to hold off. OLYMPIC ANTHEM ran on well in this class last start and has an excellent record at this distance; he should be closing late. VIVIANO gets blinker/pacifiers and is better over longer but will be closing late. THE GENERAL was prominent throughout and faded late last start, he has trialled well since and should be prominent again while the stablemate ROYAL RULER ran on fairly last start but has trialled well since, he is suited this distance and should be running on. SEBAS would prefer 1000m and is poorly drawn but can give a sight for a long way. The class drops away after this though CONSTANT JUSTICE is in form, has speed and could show up.
1 OLYMPIC ANTHEM *** Excuses two back before running on well in this class last start and has an excellent record at this distance. Should be closing late. 4.00
2 SEBAS *** Would prefer 1000m and poorly drawn but won well last start and can give a sight for a long way. 8.00
3 VIVIANO *** Always a show and blinkers on could make all the difference. 6.00
4 DISTINCTIVE DARCI *** Has won six of eight poly outings and three of four at this distance. Will be hard to hold off. 3.00
5 GOLDEN CURL * Dropping back in trip and better on turf. Might find these too sharp. 33
6 ROYAL RULER *** Ran on fairly last start but has trialled well since. Suited this distance and should be running on. 8.00
7 THE GENERAL *** Prominent throughout and faded late last start. Has trialled well since and should be prominent again. 8.00
8 ITALIAN JOB * Has speed but form poor and needs to improve on recent efforts. 50
9 CONSTANT JUSTICE ** Stepping up from narrow Class 3 win over 1200m. Will find this harder and not helped by the gate. 16
10 EFFORTLESS * Struggling since class 4 win three starts back and this class tests. 50
11 DREAMWEAVER * Has battled since resuming and needs easier. 50
12 LONGHU * Battling since Class 4 win three starts back but will appreciate the Poly. 50
13 PIONEER SEVEN ** Has speed, handles the Company but not helped by the gate. 33
14 MIGHTY CONQUEROR ** Racing soundly in easier company Poorly drawn but could be prominent. 25
Race 8
Selections; 1 GALILEO'S APPROACH - 2 TALES OF SUMMER - 4 MOMENT OF JUSTICE - 7 KHUDAWAND
A KSD over 1600m may give TALES OF SUMMER his chance to knock in a Singapore win,. The 6YO won over this trip before arrival and whilst yet to win here has rarely been far away in stronger company. In saying that, GALILEOS'S APPROACH broke through for his Maiden win last start and has trialled well since; this is harder and he is awkwardly drawn but that win was impressive and he should be prominent. Amongst the others there are many chances including MOMENT OF JUSTICE who won in this class and distance three starts back, MILITARY MIGHT who won his Maiden at this trip and will find this more suitable than his most recent outing while KHUDAWAND should be running on and BIG BANKER is worth following.
1 GALILEO'S APPROACH *** Broke through for strong Maiden win last start and has trialled well since. Hard to beat. 6.00
2 TALES OF SUMMER *** Yet to win in Singapore but is rarely far away and has won over this trip. Will find this easier than recent outings and should be prominent throughout. 4.00
3 FUEGO ** Solid at recent Novice outings and may appreciate this distance and Company. Could show up with Vlad Duric to ride. 14
4 MOMENT OF JUSTICE *** Won this class and distance three starts back and battled on solidly on poly last start. Can consider with blinkers off and visor on. 6.00
5 LETITGO * Has shown nothing since arrival in Singapore. This is easier but needs to improve. 33
6 BIG BANKER *** Best form is on poly but suited this class and distance. Should be running on. 12
7 KHUDAWAND *** Still a Maiden but excuses last start and will be running on strongly here. 12
8 MILITARY MIGHT *** Won Maiden at this trip and will find this more suitable than most recent outing. Should be handy throughout with Manoel Nunes to ride. 6.00
9 GOLDEN THUNDER * Only win was in Class 5 and did not show up when resuming. Needs to improve. 50
10 FLYING WINNER ** Not far away at recent Class 4 outings and trialled well recently. Has placed three times at this trip and could show up. 12
11 HONGCHEN ** Won class 5 over 1100m on poly last start but has a solid record at this trip and could be handy throughout. 12
12 AUSONE * Needs to improve on recent efforts. 33
13 MAREA NEGRO * Blinkers off and has won at this trip but battling at recent outings and might need easier. 33
14 MURDOCH * Battled away last start on poly but better over 1400m and in easier Company. 33
Race 9
Selections; 13 COUNTOFMONTECRISTO - 1 WAR AFFAIR - 5 LIM'S CRUISER - 4 ALIBI
While 'only' a Group 3, the Jumbo Jet has always been a great race and this instalment is no exception. And while the usual Weight-for-Age suspects at the top of the ratings are obviously in the mix, a 4YO in COUNTOFMONTECRISTO could be the testing material. Yes, he is only rated 87 and gives WAR AFFAIR some 13kg at the race conditions, but he has only tasted defeat once in seven outings and that was to FOREVER YOUNG who has subsequently franked that form when beating WAR AFFAIR over 1800m last start. So there is a form line between the two and COUNTOFMONTECRISTO has an upside given his age and his first up win over 1200m on the Poly was impressive. In saying that, WAR AFFAIR had excuses last start and can make amends here while LIM'S CRUISER, ALIBI, ELITE EXCALIBUR and DEBT COLLECTOR all win without surprising. Great race and go even wider in exotics.
1 WAR AFFAIR *** Excuses when a close up fourth in the Chairman's Trophy and gets his chance here. 6.00
2 SUPER WINNER * Resumed with solid effort and has subsequently trialled well but query the trip and could be found wanting late. 33
3 DEBT COLLECTOR *** Freshened after some below par performances but record to good to ignore with 1400m ideal. 12
4 ALIBI *** Freshened and back in trip after a huge Derby campaign and recent trial suggests he goes mighty close. 4.00
5 LIM'S CRUISER *** Also coming off a super Derby campaign and right in the winning mix with blinkers added. 6.00
6 FAALTLESS * Broke through for well deserved win last start but tested this trip and at WFA conditions. 33
7 MAJESTIC MOMENTS ** Very much appreciates first up run and too honest not to think he is in the exotic mix. 12
8 EMPEROR'S BANQUET ** Another Le Grange runner who appreciates first up run and always some show. 12
9 POSEIDON ** Not a mile away last start and will enjoy the step up to 1400m but need to be at his best at WFA conditions. 20
10 ELITE EXCALIBUR *** Hard to fault form since returning from Dubai and will be hard to hold out late. 10
11 AFFLECK ** Can never discount and gets blinkers but would need to lift to win. 33
12 GOOD NEWS * Will be running on late as per usual but not at his best of late and prefer others. 50
13 COUNTOFMONTECRISTO *** Rising star of Singapore racing and first up win coupled with previous top form has him right in this. 5.00
Race 10
Selections; 1 EL CAMINO - 2 SACRED GALAXY - 6 LIM'S RIPPLE - 7 FIGHTING WARRIOR
A very competitive KSD turf mile and you could make a case for more than half of the capacity field. At the top of the ratings, EL CAMINO and SACRED GALAXY both come off poor runs but both can win this. EL CAMINO had plenty of excuses on that occasion so happy to ignore and take on his good form prior. Add a handy 3kg claim and he can make quick amends. SACRED GALAXY never fired a shot last start when blinkers went on but his Singapore debut was good and blinkers are off so he goes close with the red-hot Zawari on board. Plenty of others that win without surprising including LIM'S RIPPLE with M Rodd up and the bang-in-form HAPPY BABY while HEE'S A MAVERICK, CHAIRMAN WIND and JUSTICE LASS are also in the mix. Keep FIGHTING WARRIOR safe at odds as he has excuses last start and that effort was good enough for this.
1 EL CAMINO *** Excuses last start with support so happy to ignore as this is very suitable to win. 5.00
2 SACRED GALAXY *** Never involved last start so forget that effort and take on good Singapore debut run with blinkers and tongue-tie off. 12
3 HAPPY BABY *** Backed up maiden win with solid effort in Class 4 and right in this. 6.00
4 ECLAIR SHADOW ** Fought on well to break maiden status of the mile on the Poly last start and should be competitive here. 12
5 LAUGHING BUFFALO ** Just battled last start over 1800m but did win maiden over the mile so worth one more look with winkers on from gate 3. 20
6 LIM'S RIPPLE *** Got too far back from wide gate last start but worked home well so can consider here. 10
7 FIGHTING WARRIOR *** Traffic excuses looked costly last start at long odds and pay to follow. 20
8 PIONEER STEP * Recent trial OK but race form poor and drawn wide. 33
9 HEE'S A MAVERICK *** Not seen often of late on the turf but in form and handles the surface so can win. 10
10 CHAIRMAN WIND *** Drawn wide but won maiden on the turf and has been on the Poly since so well worth a look. 10
11 BRILLIANT ONE * Blinkers off but form just fair and may be looking for easier. 50
12 JUSTICE LASS *** Continues to race well without a result but pay to keep following. 6.00
13 NEO'S CLASSIC ** Won in Class 5 last start and more than competitive in this Company so keep safe. 8.00
14 ZAHIR ** Nothing last start but a much better option on the turf and could be value. 50
Race 11
Selections; 7 BEAR WITNESS - 1 AWATERE - 3 MCGREGOR - 8 LIM'S REFORM
The Singapore Turf Club has saved the hardest race for punters until the last and well done if you have the field covered in any jackpot or quaddie tickets. But with so many chances there has to be value about and if a progressive horse like BEAR WITNESS gets out to each-way value, jump on! The 4YO knocked in his second career win when walking home over 1400m last start and happy to think he is destined for bigger races than this and he can win. AWATERE also looks a good each-way show at the top of the ratings and hopefully gets the favours from gate 1 for R Shafiq. Too many others to mention but EASTER MATE is in fine form, MCGREGOR will find this race very suitable to show his best while LIM'S REFORM will be working into this late. Keep CHASE, SUPERNOVA and last start winner, GOLAZO, safe.
1 AWATERE *** Unlucky not to win last start and this is easier so hard to hold out. 5.00
2 EASTER MATE *** Drawn the widest in a capacity field but won two of last three and will be working into this late. 8.00
3 MCGREGOR *** Ran on well in what was an unsuitable Poly dash last start and looks a big show on his preferred surface with the mile ideal. 12
4 CASING ROYAL ** Form better than it reads and will be thereabouts at each-way value. 20
5 MARK ECLIPSE ** Battled away without being a threat last start but should be in the exotic mix at odds. 20
6 BANDIDO ** Never really involved last start and does run on well when in the mood so keep safe. 12
7 BEAR WITNESS *** Very progressive type who won very well last start and happy to follow. 4.00
8 LIM'S REFORM *** Had excuses not to be in the mix at his last couple and will be running into this late. 12
9 SUN HOPLITES ** Led and battled on well last start so have to respect on that effort. 12
10 SUPERNOVA *** Just battled last start on the Poly but much better suited here and could win without surprising. 20
11 CHASE *** Just missed last start on the Poly and better again back on the turf so goes close. 12
12 LIFE IS GAMBLE ** Set a crazy tempo with company last start and battled on well considering and bold run expected again. 33
13 KEEPITUP ** Blinkers off after being just fair with support last start and have to take on trust. 33
14 GOLAZO *** Turned some good form into a much deserved win last start and looks well in with just 52.5kg here. 10
15 BILLY BRITAIN * Turf form of late scratchy and might need easier. 100
16 SHOW FAR SHOW GOOD ** Racing well and happy to consider in exotics in this strong field. 20
