Race analysis and race selections for Friday's racing at Kranji

RACE 1

Open Class 5 race to get the meeting underway. Tassajara (2) is still winless in 16 starts but has come close a few times, including at his last start when second to Amazon Gold. Barrier No 1 and the booking of Manoel Nunes are likely to shorten his odds. Let’s Talk Now (1) flew home for third at his last start. Unpredictable sort but on a good day, he can make his presence felt. Lady Liberty (11) bounced back to form at her last outing. Can take advantage of the drop in weight to fight out the finish. A Lot In Hand (6) had an ideal race showing the way at his last race, but the winner Million Round was too good. Not out of his depth in this, but will have to be used up to overcome his wide gate. Can be backed for a place.

RACE 2

Blinkers have turned US-bred Golden Spark (1) around. Popped up for a second at his last run. Has hit his straps and isn’t far from getting off the mark. Hun Yeang Village (2) stuck on well for second at his last outing. Back in trip and is breaking from an awkward alley, but should be just as competitive here. Success Come True (6) has not set the world on fire, but her last start when she closed in late for fifth was a lot more encouraging. Can sneak into the minors with a bit of luck. Perfect Curiosity (9) has been running on late. Looking for more ground, but if they go mad in front, watch out for him.

RACE 3

Another race where there are quite a few chances to pick from. Preferred (5) can take a bit of pressure off trainer Theo Kieser’s shoulders. Made stacks of ground first-up from a let-up. Big run in store. Clarton Super (2) may have hit the front a little too soon at his last start. Only at his third run and is still finding his feet but is going well enough to open his account. Marble one. Last-start winner Gato Negro (1) is a bit of an in-and-out performer. Things must go his way. Chance on last run. Marine Treasure (4) has changed yard. Not a bad sort and has shown decent form at his barrier trials. Well drawn. Crossover noseband off. Don’t ignore him.

RACE 4

Perfect Challenger (5) is not an easy horse to ride but has finished in the money at his last two runs over turf. Reverts to Polytrack, which suits him fine as he scored four of his five wins over that surface. Winning Star (7) is that type of customer who bobs up now and again. Nice barrier. With a bit of luck, he can give this a shake. Percius (4) has never quite handled the Polytrack. There was nothing else for him and at least he likes that trip. Not without place claims even if he got a bad gate. Manmadhan (9) does make some ground late. Not a reliable sort but she may fill the minors.

RACE 5

Open race. Chairman (7) made amends from his disappointing second-up run. Is obviously looking for more ground. Extra 100m suits, but first test over Polytrack is a question mark. Warrants consideration. You have to include Smart Lad (2). Trainer gave him a warm-up run over 1200m at his last start and he should be better suited here. Go close. Silent Arrow (8) remains trainer Steven Lam’s best chance for his season ice-breaker. First time over 1700m but it should not be a problem. Fair say. Gold Faith (4) needed the run first-up. Will benefit from that and should strip fitter for this. Include in top three.

RACE 6

Kashan (3) nearly scored under his new name (ex Q Nine Maxim) at his last run. If he reproduces that flying finish, not many can beat him here. Bastion (6) is another one with a decent turn of foot. Will appreciate the extra 100m. Bears watching. Bonjour Bob (11) was trapped deep throughout at his last run and duly compounded in the straight. Give him another chance. Herecomesmymoney (4) jumped out of the ground late to run fifth less than three lengths off the winner Lion Wave at his last outing. Will be better suited by 1200m.

RACE 7

The Michael Clements yard is in hot form. Golden Tomahawk (3) has been a model of consistency this prep. Trip suits and has drawn an alley. Will probably still get back as usual and count on his electric turn of foot to come through at the business end. Super Six (1) is another one who is not putting a foot wrong these days. Will find this a touch easier. In the hunt. Nova Missile (8) seldom disappoints. No weight on his back. Include in calculations. Can’t fault Cadet’s (6) form. Ran a nice barrier trial last Thursday. Solid claims even if there is some query on the wide barrier.

RACE 8

Shaping up as a two-horse race on paper. Tannhauser (1) was ultra-impressive at his last start when he scored his maiden win by a widening margin of 9.3 lengths. He also ran a class record and could even have gone quicker if jockey had not eased down on him. Meets stronger lot, and has drawn off the track, but on the way he won, he should double up. Bear Witness (2) did not score so impressively on debut but he also ran time. He will, however, switch to Polytrack this time. May have to settle for second best. Situation (8) has won two barrier trials. Was slow out of the gates at the last one last Thursday but recovered to score. Debut will be closely watched. Aotearoa (6) has bumped into a few smart sorts after her debut win. Will have to dig deep again but is not without a place chance. Has drawn an alley.

RACE 9

Nice race to wind up the night. Dragon Kingdom (9) showed that his surprise second at long odds was no fluke after he reproduced that performance next time out. Will appreciate the return to 1100m. Leading chance. After a tough run, Savage Storm (3) looked beat at the top of the straight but he rallied strongly to overhaul Clarton Super. Has trained on and there is no reason why he can’t put in another solid effort. Pure Justice (1) had every chance at his last start but folded the moment the pressure was applied in the home straight. Worth better than that and can atone. Super Brilliant (5) is in his element here. Performs better when switched off at the rear. Keep an eye on him.
