On Sunday, 16 April 2017, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into Jockey R Shafiq, the rider of VRAAD, weighing in underweight in Race 8 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Sunday, 19 February 2017. Jockey R Shafiq pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 121(2) in that following the run of Race 8 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Sunday, 19 February 2017, he returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram underweight and VRAAD being subsequently disqualified from the race.

When considering penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge and his record. Jockey R Shafiq was suspended from riding in races with effect from Monday, 17 April 2017 to Sunday, 30 April 2017 both dates inclusive (a period of two weeks) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Approaching the 1000m, FOREVER YOUNG (R Woodworth) checked when racing between WIMBLEDON (V Duric) and EMPEROR MAX. At a subsequent Inquiry, Jockey Rodd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 1000m, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear, thereby resulting in FOREVER YOUNG being crowded and having to be checked.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea and the degree of interference and carelessness. He was suspended from riding in races with effect from Monday, 17 April 2017 to Sunday, 23 April 2017 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days) and was advised of his Right of Appeal.
