Race analysis and race selections for Sunday's racing at Kranji
19 Mar 2017 | Singapore Turf Club

RACE 1

Competitive field to get cracking. Cerdan (2) has been running well without winning. Named after a French boxing legend, he gets his chance to punch in first win. Winkers on. Believe It Or Not (1) shed his maiden status with a pillar-to-post win last time out. Has improved a few lengths since and can keep up the winning momentum in this similar race even if he shoulders 3.5kg more. Lively Dragon (9) has pace and will be in the first few early. Whether he can muster another kick is another issue but he seems to be in good shape and a place on board looks a more realistic result for him. Flying Mission (8) is back. Won two in a row before his seven-month break. May need the run but a place is not beyond him first-up. Good draw.

RACE 2

Big Australian owner Gerry Harvey’s Libeccio (2) has been hitting the mark of late. Keeps improving and looks the part for a win here. Eclair Shadow (1) rattled home late for third at his third outing. Will be knocking on the door soon. Back on turf. Can finish in the tierce. Smiddy Byrne (3) did not improve as expected at his second run following an encouraging comeback. Does have some ability and is worth following again. Blinkers improved Golden Spark (10) sharply at his last start. More progress expected. Can pinch a minor spot with a bit of luck from the awkward alley.

RACE 3

Small but competitive field. Lim’s Knight (1) scored a strong win at his last start. Condition still spot-on. Two-kilo claim a big help. Can double the dose. Queen Roulette (5) makes her comeback here. Had a quiet trial last Thursday but seems ready to get back in the swing of things. Go close. Lim’s Samurai (2) may not have measured up at elite level, but he is never far away in easier grade. Back from a short layoff and has what it takes to get on the board first-up. Al Green (4) has been a shade disappointing at recent runs. Capable of better things. Place claims if he bounces back to form. Winkers off.

RACE 4

Open race. Star Strike (3) won his maiden race quite comfortably a month ago even if he carries 4.5kg more this time around. No reason why he cannot deliver again. Panache (6) ran a super second first-up from a nine-month spell. Will be even fitter for the run. On recent form, he warrants plenty of consideration. High Council (4) has not been finishing far behind the winners at his recent starts. Will be thereabouts again. Perfect Commando (9) has early toe and will probably lead again, especially from barrier No 1. If he gets to carve easy sectionals in front, the swoopers may struggle to catch him.

RACE 5

Not much to pick from here. Super Buffalo (2) might have been found out by the 2000m distance last time out. Back in trip and will enjoy a cosy run from barrier No 2. Top pick. Tiger Bay (3) is not far from returning to winning ways. Back over longer trip. In the firing line. Destiny Knight (6) won a nice race two runs back but did not follow up at his last start. Earmuffs on. Meets an average field and can make amends. Manmadhan (7) has been making late ground at her recent outings without threatening the winner. Outside chance.

RACE 6

Bold frontrunner Super Warrior (1) led at his last run but compounded in the home straight. Was not striding out freely after the race. Give him another chance. Rich Fortune (6) bounced back to his old self when a closing third to Asprey last time out. Seems to have improved a few lengths more since and has to be included in your calculations this time. Amazealot (10) has been making some ground of late but was a little too far astern. Better off held closer to the speed. Place claims. Sure Win (2) will probably go forward again. If he gets a soft run, he can show some cheek here. Winkers on.

RACE 7

Toliman (3) has been bounced around a few yards in only three runs at Kranji. Boasts strong French form and even if he has yet to really set Kranji alight, he has shown some potential. Lovely barrier. Distance shortened up. Can open his local account here. Tongue-tie on. Ares (1) has been making steady headway in three runs back from a break. This is right up his alley. Should be in the hunt for a long way. First Precinct (8) did not reproduce the same acceleration at his last run, but was not beaten far off Absolute Miracle either. In fine fettle and can be included in combinations. Has drawn an alley. Arhat (7) is back from a let-up. Lost his way at his last two runs. Form looks good, though, and can go well fresh.

RACE 8

Hard to get past Grey Falcon (2) after his dominant win at his last run. Goes well on turf too. Will take some beating if he can cross quickly from wide gate. The much-improved Sun Seeker (5) came from nowhere to run third at his last outing. Must be rated a leading chance from now on. Heracles (3) turned in a cheeky run at his last start. If he reproduces that performance, he has to be in with a shout again. Nice gate. Star Invincible (6) ran on stoutly under strong riding at his last start. Needs to frank that form, but does seem to be more consistent these days. Should be around the mark again.

RACE 9

Trainer Shane Baertschiger has found the key to Wonderful (3), who is bidding for a sixth win in a row. Reasonable gate. Solid chance to get the job done again. Sun Pioneer (8) is another one who has hit a good patch of form. Will tackle slightly stronger opposition but is going so well that he is hard to ignore. Cavallo (6) often pops up when least expected. Will find it easier than the Merlion Trophy field he faced last time out. Keep safe. The Nutcracker (9) is resuming and has shown good form on the training tracks, especially at the barrier trials. Improvement expected. Low draw. Shadow roll on.

RACE 10

Forget Halo Bright (7) ran at his last start as he returned lame. Seems to have put that run behind and looked fit and ready in his work. Can atone. Awatere (3) found the opposition a little rich at his last run back in October. Only three and is still improving. Has ability and must be respected first-up. Barrier No 2. A blinkered Golden Mile (9) steamed home for an impressive win at his last run. Up in grade and will find this more challenging. Still remains a live chance. Gato Negro (5) mixes his form but did make his presence felt at his last outing. Field is moderate and it won’t surprise if he takes a hand in this.

RACE 11

Plenty of chances in the last race. Damon (6) is back to his best. Not without qualities and can give this a shake if he has all the right breaks. Bad gate not such a big deal as he comes from behind. Will relish the step-up to the mile. O’What A Feeling (4) got away with cheap sectionals and posted an all-the-way win at his last run. Has made further inroads since and can be counted on again. Classified (1) came with a well-timed run to get up late at his third outing from a break. Trip suits and is nicely drawn. Include in calculations. Laughing Buffalo (8) did not quite threaten at his last run but it was still an encouraging sign of improvement second-up from an 11-month spell. Can sneak into the minors with some luck.
