Race analysis and race selections for Friday's racing at Kranji
16 Feb 2017 | Singapore Turf Club

RACE 1

Even race to kick things off. Aspen (1) lost no marks when second to the surprising Lee Man at his last outing. Awkward alley not a big deal as he gets back. Big say here. Land Below D Wind (6) did not see out the 1700m at his last start. Brought back to 1400m. Drawn wide but can bounce back to better things. Mozart Eclipse (2) showed encouraging signs at his last run when he stuck on for third. Seems to have made further headway and a place on board is possible. Rory (10) trialled well two weeks ago. In his element in this and can take a hand in the concluding stages. Likely leader from marble one.

RACE 2

The much-hyped Redoubt (2) is knocking on the door. Flew home for third at his last run. Won’t take too long to salute and gets a good chance from barrier No 1 here. Southern Glory (9) was caught wide on debut but still worked home solidly to run fourth even if he was well beaten by the winner Autumn Rush. Steps over turf this time. Improved run on the cards even if he has again drawn badly. Winkers on. Star Invincible (4) is making good headway. Ran on for third at his last start. Will relish extra 200m. Super G (5) did show flashes of brilliance at a couple of his runs but has overall been disappointing. Don’t write him off just yet. Place claims.

RACE 3

Wide open race. Winning Express (2) made stacks of ground to run third to Autumn Rush last time out. Nearing his best form. Trip should suit. Good chance. Bold frontrunner Grey Falcon (13) keeps finding one or two better. Has an abundance of speed but just can’t seem to find the line first. Blinkers off. Include in calculations. Alphanova (3) came from last to finish second to Rock Eagle at his last run. Back in trip. May get there too late but can still fill the minors. Pacifiers on. Elite Warrior (7) can only improve from his debut run. Had to work overtime from a wide gate to take a handy spot. Bears watching.

RACE 4

There was plenty to like about the way Ode To Joy (2) hit the line to score in a mile race at his last outing. Leading hope. Ares (4) is back in form. Lost his way a little when stepped up in distance. Mile more up his street. Can turn the tables on his last-start victor Ode To Joy. Fortune Winner (1) can mix her form a little. She never found the line as expected in the Fortune Bowl. Has drawn an alley. Give her another chance. Casing Royal’s (6) last run was full of merit. Last win came over the mile. Still in great shape and is worth following again.

RACE 5

O’What A Feeling (6) had a bit of boom on him at some stage, partly due for the fact he is Blue Swede’s full brother, but he has not quite stepped up to the mark. Not disgraced at his last run, though. Top-three finish. Turquoise King (5) has improved by leaps and bounds. His last run suggests his winning turn is not far off. Back on turf and has drawn a good barrier. Worth following from now on. Tales Of Summer (4) was around the mark last time out. Not a model of consistency but if things go his way, he may run a forward race this time. Happy Saga (8) skipped away to a big win at his last start but he is up in grade this time. This is harder even if he jumps from the inside alley, but he can still run a place.

RACE 6

No real standout in this. Quetzal (2) finally opened his account at his last outing. Extra 100m will suit him even better. In fine fettle and can double the dose. Super Buffalo (3) was a touch disappointing at his last start. On the quick back-up. Step-up to 200m is a query, but he looks the goods for a place. Clutha Lad (6) did what he could behind Happy Saga at his last run over 1700m. First time over 2000m but he gives the impression he can stay. Pacifiers off. Warrants consideration. Galaxy Express (4) ran below expectations at his last start. Can do better than that. Drawn awkwardly but can still atone.

RACE 7

Give the nod to Moritz Eclipse (3). Ran above expectations first-up from a five-month break. Can bounce back to winning ways here. Lim’s Shot (7) is finding the opposition a little richer in Class 4 but he was not disgraced either. Reverts to turf and will appreciate the extra 200m. Gato Negro (5) will find this easier. Capable on his day. Tongue-tie on. Place prospect. Winning Man (2) had to be used up to secure the lead from a wide barrier at his last start. Jumps from a better barrier this time and reverts to turf over which he won on debut. Can fill the minors with a bit of luck.

RACE 8

Succession (8) came from well off the pace to run third at his last outing. Trialled very well last Tuesday. Nice gate. Ready to win again. Mongolian Chief (5) is holding form and figures among the top contenders in this. Expect to see him running on towards the business end. Iking (1) is dropping back in class. Has a nice turn of foot and won’t be far behind when the whips are cracking. Big Guardian (9) showed he was more effective when he takes up the running. More of a Polytrack horse but he can handle turf as well. Can deal another blow if he is given an easy time upfront.

RACE 9

Open race to wrap up the night. Draco (9) was impressive at his maiden win even if he didn’t beat much then. Stiffer task but he has trained on and looks like he can measure up in this. Champagne Rein (1) has been improving steadily and is facing his first turf test. Commands respect in this. Southern Chief (8) was way under the odds at his last run and he showed it with a super fourth to the smart Nova Missile. Cannot be underestimated. Lim’s Casino (5) looked home at his last outing but Jelly Bean arrived on time to deny him by a whisker. Freshened up and is not without some place claims first-up. Nice barrier.
