Friday meeting preview

Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds

After the flow that was a terrific weekends racing that included Infantry winning the Emirates Singapore Derby, we now have the inevitable ebb that gives some of the lesser lights in Singapore their chance to shine.

In fact only four horses in the first five races have last start placed form to their name, which makes in extremely tough for pundits and punters alike.

But every race has a winner and if you look hard enough there will be some value about and a Class dropper in AMAZEALOT in race 1 is a good place to start.

The 7YO’s form looks ordinary but has been competitive in Class 4 of late and won the last time he dropped to Class 5 with the same hoop (Amirul) on board.

In race 2, RIVER FORTUNE can also turn around some poor form at likely long odds.

The 3YO has been ordinary to say the least at three race starts but a recent trial with blinkers suggests the addition of headgear could see improvement.

A safer bet though is in race 6 on the card where the Argentinean, SARAAB, can open his Singapore account over a mile on the Poly in Class 4 Company.

The 3YO showed at his local debut that the Poly is his caper and given he won over the mile at home (and placed at Group level over 1800m), the step up in distance is ideal and he is the one to beat.

Best Bets: (SARAAB race 6, win), (AMAZEALOT race 1, each-way) and (RIVER FORTUNE race 2, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 5 (2, 3, 6, 7 and 8), race 6 (1, 2 and 3), race 7 (1, 2, 3, and 6), race 8 (1, 2 and 6).

Please note the odds listed are "reference odds" only.

Race 1
Selections; 1 AMAZEALOT - 2 EURO ZONE - 9 TOP NOTE - 8 INVINCIBLE MAN
A relatively small field for a Class 5 Poly sprint but plenty of winning hopes including the Class dropper in AMAZEALOT. The 7YO has been in very honest form in Class 4 over this trip and track and given he won the last time he dropped to Class 5 with this same jockey, he gets his chance. The obvious choice on recent form is EURO ZONE. Also a 7YO, EURO ZONE has shown more than enough at three starts since dropping to Class 5 to suggest he wins sooner than later. TOP NOTE is the other that wins on recent good form and will have supporters while INVINCIBLE MAN gets blinkers and he could be the wildcard as he trialled well with headgear back in May.
1 AMAZEALOT *** Has been running on well in Class 4 and hard to beat back in this Company with handy 2kg claim. 6.00
2 EURO ZONE *** Looked a good thing beaten after traffic issues last start and the benchmark in this. 3.50
3 MUSCULAR SPRINTER * Did it tough last start so fair effort first up but like to see over longer with blinkers removed. 20
4 SUPERTEN ** Never involved last start in turf and may pay to forget and consider on good Poly form prior. 6.00
5 CASTLE QUEEN ** Ran on well to place over 1100m last start and expect much the same. 6.00
6 RED GENERAL ** Form just fair but recent trial - albeit with blinkers - was good so could improve. 20
7 RED RIDING WOOD * Going along OK but drops back in trip and have to take on trust. 12
8 INVINCIBLE MAN *** Recent form OK and comes under notice with blinkers added. 8.00
9 TOP NOTE *** In form and plays a big part in this finish. 5.00
Race 2
Selections; 10 RIN TIN TIN - 8 FIRST CHOICE - 1 RIVER FORTUNE - 2 PARAGON STAR
An ordinary field to say the least in this Restricted Maiden and the tote will be a terrific guide on the day. As it stands it may be a couple of Theo Kieser 2YO's who play a big part in this race. RIN TIN TIN is a newcomer who has trialled well enough to have a big say on debut but Zaki will need luck from the wind gate. His other runner, FIRST CHOICE goes close on the back of a fair debut where he showed plenty of speed. He also gets to jump from gate 1 and if he can make use of the ace, he could be hard to run down. The field lacks depth but worth keeping RIVER FORTUNE safe with blinkers added with trial form with headgear a factor while ZL Mok's other runner, PARAGON STAR, will appreciate the better gate and could show up. CONFIDE, ACE HARBOUR, SIX EMPIRE and the filly, ANTHEIA, can be included in exotics.
1 RIVER FORTUNE ** Form reads badly but gets blinkers and has trialled well with headgear so keep safe at odds. 12
2 PARAGON STAR ** Form reads badly but has been doing it tough from wide gates so worth thought on the back of a good trial from kinder barrier. 6.00
3 SHOQEET * Like to see support on exposed trial form. 20
4 ALRINA * Appreciates debut run and gets tongue-tie but like to see something before considering. 33
5 DREAM BIG * Resuming and may need longer. 33
6 ACE HARBOUR ** Never involved on debut but hit the line OK late and should improve at odds. 12
7 CONFIDE ** Never involved last start but worth thought on solid debut effort. 8.00
8 FIRST CHOICE *** Has pace and could give a sight from gate 1 in this weak field. 5.00
9 GOLDEN STATES * Didn't show a lot on debut and prefer to watch, 20
10 RIN TIN TIN *** Draw a concern but shown enough at the trials to go close in a field with no depth. 5.00
11 SIX EMPIRE ** Improved at second career start and should keep them honest with Munro to ride. 12
12 ANTHEIA ** Yet to impress but has had support on trial form and gets her chance in this field. 5.00
Race 3
Selections; 4 LUCKY GIANT - 6 RUN IT TWICE - 10 SING ROULETTE - 1 MAJOR TOM
Nothing jumps off the page in this Class 4 turf sprint and again, the tote will be a very good guide on the day. In fact the best last start form in this race on paper is a fifth (PLATOON), which gives an indication of the depth of this field. But someone has to win and LUCKY GIANT had excuses last start (saddle slipped) and did look due prior so he should give a sight. RUN IT TWICE has been ordinary of late but this race suits and he would go very close on some recent Class 3 form. SING ROULETTE is getting close to Class 5 but just missed two back in a similar affair and should play a part. Of the others, MAJOR TOM resuming has more than enough ability to win while you can make a case for JACKFISH, YULONG HOLY PRAISE and LUCKY JUSTICE to improve. SOUTHERN MAN is the risk. The 3YO flopped at his first and only turf run but obviously goes well on the back of two Poly wins and a good trial.
1 MAJOR TOM ** Resuming with quiet trial under his belt and too honest to leave out with tote best guide. 6.00
2 SOUTHERN MAN ** Didn't go a yard at only turf run last start so take on trust. 6.00
3 JACKFISH ** Returned not striding when supported last start and pay to keep safe on that effort. 6.00
4 LUCKY GIANT *** Saddle slipped last start and happy to give another chance on race and trial form. 6.00
5 LUCKY JUSTICE ** Resuming and recent trial good enough to keep safe. 12
6 RUN IT TWICE *** Form starting to read badly and drawn wide but race suits and could show up. 5.00
7 YULONG HOLY PRAISE ** Nothing at Singapore debut but gets blinkers added and recent trial good enough to think he improves at value. 12
8 NO SMOKING JEFF * Reassess easier, longer and on the Poly. 20
9 PLATOON ** Battled on last start in this Company and expect much the same. 12
10 SING ROULETTE *** Like to see in Class 5 but in the mix at his last couple and this field is not strong. 8.00
Race 4
Selections; 1 KING OF WAR - 4 CAI POH WANG - 5 MAJULAH - 3 VOLKS TREASURE
Again, nothing to get excited about in this maiden but a well-bred type in KING OF WAR could be hard to beat. A $775k (Aud) purchase as a yearling, the 3YO only managed a couple of placings from six starts in Australia but a solid third on debut in Singapore suggests he has found his mark. He has drawn wide but in his favour is the fact that the pacy MAJULAH - who is also chance - has drawn just inside him and he could get a nice run into the first bend. Others with winning hopes include CAI POH WANG who was never involved last start but should be running on while VOLKS TREASURE resuming with blinkers is also a winning show.
1 KING OF WAR *** Solid when placing at Singapore debut and can improve to win this with tongue-tie added. 2.80
2 ARIEL * Blinkers off and appreciates maiden Company but needs to show more. 20
3 VOLKS TREASURE *** Resuming with blinkers after pulling up lame last start and could show up on race form. 6.00
4 CAI POH WANG *** Never involved before running on late last start and can win if handier in running. 7.00
5 MAJULAH *** Enough pace to overcome wide gate and in this a long way. 6.00
6 SPECIAL RAIN ** Nothing last start but should be running on late over 1200m. 8.00
7 EL CONDOR * Hard to have on race form. 33
8 SMIDDY BYRNE ** Shown glimpses and could play a part in the finish with blinkers back on. 12
9 DAYUAN ** Will be handy throughout and a must for exotics with light weight. 8.00
10 IMMORTAL LEGACY ** Yet to place in ten starts but thereabouts as a rule. 20
Race 5
Selections; 3 BONJOUR BOB - 6 NINEPINS - 2 FAST JET - 8 SECONDWAVE
A lot of these horses can be found in the "never back me again" file but again, something has to win and we will do our best to find something with an upside. BONJOUR BOB has found some honest form in albeit weak races and this Poly sprint obviously falls under that category. NINEPINS is a 25-start maiden but has finished on the podium six times and did race well with Nunes on-board three starts back. Of the rest, CASSIS OOLONG showed speed to place last start but is unreliable, SECONDWAVE is in very honest form while FAST JET had excuses last start and could be better than most of these. Bet with caution.
1 MAGIC PAINT ** In the mix of late without being a threat but claim may help. 6.00
2 FAST JET *** Form reads badly but traffic excuses last start and only win was this track and trip. 12
3 BONJOUR BOB *** Found some form of late and this race weak enough to win. 4.00
4 KING CROSS * Just battling. 33
5 GOLDEN JADE ** Nothing last start but gets senior hoop and appreciates the Poly so keep safe. 12
6 NINEPINS *** Long-term maiden status a concern but went close with Nunes three starts back and should be in the mix. 5.00
7 CASSIS OOLONG *** Led them up at odds last start and battled on well and expect much the same from gate 4. 8.00
8 SECONDWAVE *** Veteran who is in solid form and gets his chance in this field. 8.00
9 GOLDEN BOBO * Easier to ignore. 50
10 GOLDEN ROSEWOOD ** Will be ruining on late and a must for exotics. 8.00
11 SIMPANG ** Form reads badly but recent trial OK and gets blinkers so could improve. 12
Race 6
Selections; 3 SARAAB - 1 KINGS RYKER - 2 SMART VINTAGE - 8 PRINCE FERDINAND
While KINGS RYKER and SMART VINTAGE will come into consideration and should get punters support, SAREEB is the one to beat. The former Argentinean has shown more than enough at three starts in Singapore to think he will go through the grades and the 3YO looks perfectly placed over 1600m on the Poly. As mentioned, KINGS RYKER and SMART VINTAGE will keep him honest. KINGS RYKER is always a solid each-way hope in races like this and SMART VINTAGE ran on well last start with support and a handy 3kg claim could be a factor. Nothing else jumps off the page but two last start Class 5 winners in BIG BANKER and RACING TALENT could be competitive, as will most others on best form.
1 KINGS RYKER *** Always a show in races like this and showed enough last start to follow. 5.00
2 SMART VINTAGE *** Had support and ran on without being a winning chance last start but can make amends with a 3kg claim. 4.00
3 SARAAB *** Argentinean who went close at only Poly run and this looks ideal to win. 2.50
4 PIONEER STEP * Struggling. 50
5 BIG BANKER ** Competitive this track and trip but needed Class 5 to win and better suited there. 8.00
6 AUSONE ** Form this campaign reads badly but OK very late last start and only win was this trip and track. 33
7 GANNET ** Tough to follow on form but this race should suit and gets the ace. 20
8 PRINCE FERDINAND ** Has shown solid form in Class 4 and step up to the mile looks a good move. Value. 12
9 RACING TALENT ** Three career wins in Class 5 but could sneak into skinny end of exotics with blinkers off stepping up to the mile. 8.00
Race 7
Selections; 2 STOCK BROKER - 1 PREMIER FIGHTER - 6 HOSHIKO - 3 BLACK MAGIC
STOCK BROKER, PREMIER FIGHTER and HOSHIKO are all in very god form in similar affairs to this and are the obvious three picks. And while STOCK BROKER won very well last start and probably starts favourite, not much separates the trio. But that win was his second in three starts and in his favour is that he went close two starts back suggests he has found some consistency which was lacking previously. PREMIER FIGHTER could get the favours from gate 6 and also gets a handy 3kg, which will hold him in good stead. HOSHIKO has drawn the widest of the trio but his two runs this campaign have been good and he wins without surprising. Not many others appeal but BLACK MAGIC first up after a bleeding attack can be considered while THE COSMOS and MUSCULAR DRAGON can both be included in exotics.

1 PREMIER FIGHTER *** In very good form over this trip and looks the one to beat. 3.00
2 STOCK BROKER *** Won two of his last three in similar affairs and goes very close again. 3.00
3 BLACK MAGIC *** Resuming after bleeding attack and has good first up record so keep safe. 12
4 THE COSMOS ** Draw a concern but form better than it reads and can include in exotics at value. 20
5 SUPERSONICSURPRISE * Disappointing of late and easier to ignore. 33
6 HOSHIKO *** Drawn awkwardly but right in the winning mix at two starts this campaign and goes close. 3.00
7 LUCKY SIX * In winning form and gets the ace but Class 5 looks his caper. 20
8 PERFECT COMMANDO * Needs Class 5. 33
9 FLYING SHADOW * Struggles in this Company and needs easier. 100
10 SKY ELEVEN * Reassess in easier over longer. 50
11 MUSCULAR DRAGON ** Like to see in Class 5 but will be running on late and can include in exotics with no weight. 33
Race 8
Selections; 2 MORITZ ECLIPSE - 1 HADES - 6 SUPER FORTUNE - 4 SOUTHERN DRAGON
An open race to finish the eight race card with plenty of each-way hopes, some likely to get out to value. LADRONE probably leads and will look the winner at some stage but the 5YO has been disappointing not to have won recently and should be vulnerable late. Hopefully it is MORITZ ECLIPSE who has last crack. The 4YO ran on very well late last start and if he gets any luck from gate 11 for Harry Kassim, he can win. HADES pulled up lame last start but is also a winning show on his form prior and may even sneak out to value. There are two newcomers in the field including SUPER FORTUNE who has trialled well enough to consider. Keep SOUTHERN DRAGON safe with blinkers added to his gear and UNCLE LUCKY at long odds with no weight.
1 HADES *** Pulled up lame last start and a big show on form prior. 6.00
2 MORITZ ECLIPSE *** Ignore recent duck egg (lost rider) as ran on very well last start and looks due. 4.00
3 LADRONE ** Run down again with support last start and getting costly for followers. 4.00
4 SOUTHERN DRAGON ** Did it tough last start so may pay to ignore as should go well with blinkers added. 10
5 HERO CHAMPION * Gets blinkers but easier to ignore. 100
6 SUPER FORTUNE *** Former Australian who has trialled well enough to win at Singapore debut although wide gate is a concern. 5.00
7 CATCH ME GREAT ** In the mix of late and can consider in exotics with tongue-tie on. 20
8 BROTHER WIND ** Turned around some very poor form when blinkers went on last start and pay to follow. 10
9 NATIVE LUCK ** Australian maiden who has trialled OK and market watch in order. 12
10 SUPER BALL * Maiden who wants easier. 33
11 SWIFT * Reassess in Class 5. 50
12 UNCLE LUCKY ** Query on the turf and like to see in Class 5 but recent form good and will be value. 33
