Race analysis and race selections for Friday's racing at Kranji
13 Jul 2017 | Singapore Turf Club

RACE 1

No standout here in this opening event. Euro Zone (2) has shown a return to form of late. Won’t surprise if he returns to winning ways. Awkward alley. Castle Queen (5) doesn’t win often but she does seem more at home in Class 5. Include in calculations even if draw is also against her. Top Note (9) tried to come from behind at his last run but he could not quite finish it off. Better off ridden forward. Small chance. Superten (4) did not put in a blow at his last start. Jumped awkwardly but that was not a real excuse. Looks okay on the training tracks. Deserves another chance. Marble one.

RACE 2

Hard to make a pick here with many inexperienced horses who have not shown much. First Choice (8) showed some toe at his debut but was no match to the superior Mr Hanks. Has improved a few lengths since. Has drawn an alley. Can finish in the money. Expect some improvement from Alrina (4) after a first-up run when she did not really come into the picture at any stage of the race. Will need to lift in a big way to win this but a place is not beyond her. Tongue-tie on. Antheia (12) goes well in her barrier trials but does not quite put it together in her races. Drawn wide. No weight on her back. Good place chance. Six Empire (11) ran a much more encouraging race second-up. Not winning material yet but he may pinch a place with some luck. First Polytrack test.

RACE 3

The resuming Major Tom (1) ran way below expectations at his last outing. Came back with a cut on his leg and had debris in his trachea. Nice horse who can make amends first-up. Southern Man (2) was slow out of the gates and never looked to be travelling. Was a huge disappointment. Not the easiest horse to train but has ability. Can bounce back. Lucky Justice (5) has yet to score in seven starts but has never finished far behind. Resuming and is worth watching for future outings. Ideal gate. Jackfish (3) moved up well at his second start but could not go through with it in the end. Drawn awkwardly. Place claims.

RACE 4

Open race. King Of War (1) ran an encouraging third on debut. Will strip fitter for this. Expect a top performance second-up even if he has drawn the outermost alley. Cai Poh Wang (4) is making slow headway. Seems to handle Polytrack better. Well drawn. Go close.Special Rain (6) did not etch a lasting impression at his last outing. Can do better than that. Bears watching. Majulah (5) has early toe but needs to improve on his resistance at the business end. Small chance if he gets his own way in front but he will have to overcome an awkward gate first.

RACE 5

Tough race to assess. Not much form to speak of. Bonjour Bob (3) is probably one of the more consistent runners in this field. Trip and handy barrier suit. Commands respect. Cassis Oolong (7) tried to pinch the race from the front last time out but was run down late. Will again take some catching if he has his way in front. Magic Paint (1) has lost his way a little since winning two in a row back in February. Showed slight improvement at his last run. Outside chance. Secondwave (8) is not getting any younger but he has not been beaten out of sight either. Nice gate. Can sneak into the minors with a bit of luck.

RACE 6

Smart Vintage (2) ran an improved race at his last start when second-up from a let-up. Freshened up again and should run a bold race. Argentinian-bred Saraab (3) is coming to hand. Never put in a bad run in three starts. Trialled well with Oscar Chavez up. Further improvement expected with the extra 200m. Big Banker (5) is back in form. Tackles better grade of horses again and may find it tough again. Trip up his alley, but place claims look more realistic. Kings Ryker (1) did not fare too badly at his last outing. Will find this a touch easier. Can make the board.

RACE 7

The consistent Stock Broker (2) won a very nice race at his last start. Going great guns and can make it back-to-back wins. Hoshiko (6) has been around the mark of late. Form is on the up. Only setback is the wide barrier. Still worth a place chance. Premier Fighter (1) is always thereabouts. Can make presence felt again. Lucky Six (7) is fairly consistent in this class and pops up once in a while. Looks in his element here. Jumps from barrier No 1. Keep safe.

RACE 8

Newcomer Super Fortune (6) is a one-time winner and was placed three times in six runs in New South Wales. Has had a few barrier trials under the belt. Forward showing in store on debut. Ladrone (3) was a bit of a letdown at his last outing. Had to be used up from his wide draw and was left a sitting duck in the home straight. Not drawn any better. Chance if he gets a breather mid-race. Brother Wind (8) showed the benefit of wearing blinkers right away with a fast-finishing second last time out. Still in fine fettle and will be right in the mix if things go his way. Southern Dragon (4) has lost his way after his maiden win back in January. Don’t write him off just yet.
