Friday meeting preview
16 Jun 2017 | By Larry Foley - kranjiracing.com

Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

Another eight-race card greets punters on a Friday night at Kranji but plenty of nice races to keep everyone interested with one eye will be on the big Group 1 race - The Patrons Bowl - on Sunday.

And while a six-start maiden in REDOUBT is a long way off any feature races, the 3YO could be a good thing in race 3 tonight.

Yes, he has had his chances and usually finds one or two better on the day, however, he gets blinkers added to his gear and that looks a winning move by his trainer Theo Keiser on the back of a very nice trial.

If maiden races aren’t your caper and want a field with some quality, you don’t have to wait long as race 4 - A Kranji Stakes C event over 2000m - looks a beauty.

DANCE IN THE WIND is gunning for a hat trick and should get the favours out front on a course that suits, however, the 5YO mare does have to give MAGSTOCK 2.5kg for a half-a-length victory over 1800m when they last met.

That certainly makes them hard to separate and the finish should be a busy one with LUCKY STRIDE also in the mix on the back of some recent winning form.

Best Bets: (REDOUBT race 3, win), (RIVER OF GOLD race 8, each-way) and (MYSTIC MASTER race 6, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 5 (3, 4 and 6), race 6 (Field), race 7 (1 and 2), race 8 (1, 5, 6 and 7).

Please note the odds listed are "reference odds" only.

Race 1

Selections; 10 TOP NOTE - 2 MASTERMIND - 4 UNCLE LUCKY - 6 RIKIOH

While we will keep an eye on the tote for some of the Class droppers in the opener, TOP NOTE looks hardest to beat on recent form. The 5YO had excuses for his only poor run this campaign and from gate 3 he should get all the favours and be very hard to pass late on the back of a nice trial. MASTERMIND is one of the Class droppers to watch and while his recent form reads like an emergency phone number, the drop to this Company (for the first time) with a nice recent trial under his belt has him under notice over his pet trip. Of the others that can win, UNCLE LUCKY will also find Class 5 to his liking and may be value while RIKIOH placed last start in a similar affair to this and should play some part in the finish.

1 CASTLE QUEEN ** Might need a tad longer to win but very much appreciates drop to Class 5 and will work into this late. 12
2 MASTERMIND *** Form reads badly but recent trial good and should grow a leg over this trip at first try in Class 5. 6.00
3 NEVERTHELESS * Maiden who has struggled at the races although could improve in Class 5. 33
4 UNCLE LUCKY *** Another Class dropper who improves back in recent winning Company and may be value. 10
5 ARION * Battles away but easier to ignore on the Poly. 20
6 RIKIOH *** Placed last start similar affair and should be prominent throughout. 6.00
7 DRAGON GOLD * Not at his best of late. 50
8 SATELLITE POWER ** Impossible on race form and returned a roarer last start but recent trials suggest he could improve at odds. 20
9 COOL CAT ** Veteran who hasn't won for a year but racing well and keeps them honest. 12
10 TOP NOTE *** Excuses for only poor run this campaign and hard to beat on the back of a good trial with gate 3 a factor. 2.60
11 PRETTY ELUSIVE ** In the mix of late and can include in skinny end of exotics at value. 12
12 FLYING MISSION ** Just ordinary of late but blinkers added may see improvement in a race that suits. 12
13 HERECOMESMYMONEY * Shown glimpses but recent form ordinary. 33
14 SIMPANG * Form ordinary but always some show at long odds on the Poly. 33

Race 2

Selections; 3 GREY FALCON - 1 CHAMPAGNE REIN - 2 MAIDANZ BEAUTY - 7 PERFECT COMMANDO

If CHAMPAGNE REIN is ever going to win a race in Singapore, this could be it. The 5YO has been in the mix more times than not at 12 starts in Singapore and should find this field to his liking so does look the one to beat. But his lack of winning form (with support) is a big concern and a 3YO in GREY FALCON could be the one that beats him. The one-time winner bounced back to form over 1100m at his last two starts and the drop back to 1000m looks ideal. The value might be MAIDANZ BEAUTY. The 4YO mare looks in terrible form but very much appreciates the Company, blinkers and the Poly 1000m so can win with Rodd onboard. Keep ON ELECTRIC AVENUE, last start winner PERFECT COMMANDO and ORCHARD ROAD safe in exotics.

1 CHAMPAGNE REIN *** Refuses to run a bad race but flatly refuses to win in Singapore so take on trust. 3.00
2 MAIDANZ BEAUTY *** Form reads terribly but Company and 1000m on the poly suits and can win with blinkers back on. 6.00
3 GREY FALCON *** Shown more than enough at his two recent starts to think he can win dropping to 1000m. 3.00
4 FRAGRANCE EMPIRE * Lost form. 50
5 ON ELECTRIC AVENUE ** Maiden who showed plenty at two start before putting in a shocker with support and Class 4 should test. 7.00
6 BELLUS WONDER * Goes OK on his day but needs easier Company than this. 33
7 PERFECT COMMANDO ** Two career wins in Class 5 but has plenty of pace and in this a long way. 8.00
8 SKY ELEVEN * Form OK but should need longer and easier. 33
9 HAPPY DAYZ * Maiden who has speed but struggles at the business end. 33
10 ORCHARD ROAD ** Nothing last start but usually competitive and a must for exotics. 12

Race 3

Selections; 1 REDOUBT - 5 WHY NOT - 4 SAINT LINCOLN - 9 ELITE KINGDOM

Like Champagne Rein in the previous race, REDOUBT has done little wrong bar win of late but gets his chance in this Restricted Maiden field. But unlike Champagne Rein, REDOUBT gets a gear change (blinkers added), which off the back of some nice trials should make all the difference. In fact Duric should go to the front or at least race on the pace and REDOUBT should be very hard to pass at the business end. Nothing jumps off the page to beat him, however, SAINT LINCOLN gets blinkers, which could see improvement while ELITE KINGDOM and the newcomer GOLDEN STATES get to carry 49.5kg, which is always handy at this time of the year.

1 REDOUBT *** Hard to fault form but recent trials with blinkers suggest he is extremely hard to beat. 2.00
2 ENERGIZER ** Showed enough last start to keep safe in exotics. 12
3 COUNTRY BOSS * Should improve with race experience but like to see more before considering. 12
4 SAINT LINCOLN ** Solid without being a threat at two career start but comes under notice with blinkers on first time. 8.00
5 WHY NOT ** Appreciates solid debut off the back off some nice trials and should figure somewhere. 8.00
6 PERFECT GIRL ** Ran on very well to place last start at odds but may need longer than this to win. 12
7 LION CITY GOLD * Gets blinkers but needs to show more than what he did on debut. 33
8 BRIMSTONE * 2YO who would need support before considering on exposed trial form. 20
9 ELITE KINGDOM ** Coming off a solid debut and in this a long way with lightweight. 8.00
10 GOLDEN STATES ** The odd trial OK and another 2YO to consider in exotics with pull in the weights. 12
11 SIX EMPIRE * Excuses on debut but needs to show more before considering. 100

Race 4

Selections; 1 MAGSTOCK - 2 DANCE IN THE WIND - 6 LUCKY STRIDE - 5 CERTAINLY

Not much separated DANCE IN THE WIND and MAGSTOCK last start over 1800m (half a length to be precise) and we can expect much the same over 2000m in similar Company. DANCE IN THE WIND does get a 2.5kg increase for the win but given he most likely leads on a track that will suit front-runners, he can win again. But MAGSTOCK should stalk him from gate 1 and gets every chance to make quick amends with that pull in the weights a factor. Most others including the honest CERTAINLY are always in the mix, however, the wildcard could be LUCKY STRIDE. The 4YO steps up considerably in distance and will be tested this Company but his recent wins have been very strong and it will pay to keep him safe.

1 MAGSTOCK *** In form and this race looks ideal to knock in another win. 3.00
2 DANCE IN THE WIND *** Hard to fault winning form and will be handy throughout. Gives Magstock 2.5kg. 4.00
3 CHEETAH ON FIRE * Hard to have on recent form. 50
4 KEEP SPINNING ** Usually runs on but not sure if Course will suit swoopers. 12
5 CERTAINLY ** Super honest and will make his presence felt late. 6.00
6 LUCKY STRIDE *** Progressive type who is tested at the trip and in this Company but pay to keep safe on winning form with blinkers off for this. 6.00
7 KATE'S KEEPER ** Not at his best of late but can race handy and finish in the exotic mix. 20
8 MIGHTY EMPEROR ** A win would surprise but too honest to leave out completely with blinkers off and visor on. 10
9 WONDERFUL ERA ** This Company should test but won very well in Class 4 last start so keep safe. 12

Race 5

Selections; 3 NEO'S CLASSIC - 4 PERCIUS - 6 DREAMER LEGEND - 1 PRINCE DARCI

No champs in this Class 5 field but a couple in NEO'S CLASSIC and PERCIUS look ready to win and could fight this out. And while it's hard to be confident in this type of race, the jockey change from an apprentice to V Duric on NEO'S CLASSIC could make the difference. Obviously Vlad is in fine form in the saddle and NEO'S CLASSIC can certainly race handy enough on the back of recent form to be hardest to beat. M Rodd jumps on PERCIUS who was disappointing with support when blinkers went on last start but that run good enough to follow although he will need to be handier in running. Nothing else jumps off the page although the maiden DREAMER LEGEND has shown enough to think Class 5 suits so keep him safe.

1 PRINCE DARCI ** Placed this Company over 1400m two starts back and will be running on again. 8.00
2 DANGER ZONE ** Long time between wins but mile may suit in this Company. 20
3 NEO'S CLASSIC *** Found some form and should be prominent throughout. 3.00
4 PERCIUS *** Disappointing not to place with support when blinkers went on last start but the effort good enough for this if handier throughout. 3.00
5 READY TO ROCK * Gets blinkers and G Boss but yet to place in eight starts. 20
6 DREAMER LEGEND *** In the mix last start and expect much the same in this weak Class 5 field. 6.00
7 SNOW DANCER * Yet to place in seven starts. 50
8 HOLY THOMAS * Impossible on form. 100
9 SUN DANCE ** Has been running on and should finish in the mix. 8.00
10 ALADDIN ** Years since last win but has been running on of late and a must for exotics. 12

Race 6

Selections; 8 CONILAD - 2 SUN MIRAGE - 7 MYSTIC MASTER - 12 DUTY FIRST

An extremely tough race with all horses looking to have winning hopes on recent good form. So given we can make a case for most, it might be a case of looking for value on the day and it goes without saying to go very wide in exotics. Where to start? The lightly raced CONILAD has had a few respiratory issues of late but had support last start and did enough to follow. SUN MIRAGE is in cracking form and won first up so looks a horse to follow through the grades. The 3YO MYSTC MASTER has drawn wide but has looked due and a recent trial suggests he is ready for this. Too many others to mention them all but DUTY FIRST could be value and has some show as does his two stablemates in JELLY BEAN and LONGHU.

1 JUSTICE DAY *** Resuming. Yet to win in Singapore but showed last start the Poly holds no fears and in this a long way. 8.00
2 SUN MIRAGE *** Resumed with solid win in Class 4 and have to follow on that effort and for prior. 6.00
3 ANONYMOUS *** Hasn't won since this time last year but in form and will be hard to hold out with best work late. 6.00
4 HIMALAYA DRAGON *** Another that hasn't won for close to a year but is in form and plays a part late. 8.00
5 JELLY BEAN *** Resuming sans blinkers and recent trials good enough to think he goes close with 3kg claimer. 12
6 LONGHU *** Supported when winning well in Class 4 last start and another worth following. 6.00
7 MYSTIC MASTER *** Wide draw a concern but recent trial was smart and has looked due. 12
8 CONILAD *** Showed last start why is always a big show in this Company and can win. 6.00
9 FAITHFULLY ** Might need easier to win but showed enough last start to keep safe at odds. 20
10 HOST THE NATION ** Another who may need Class 4 to win but not far away last start so can include somewhere. 20
11 DRAGON SPIRIT *** Showed pace last start and better suited back on the Poly. 20
12 DUTY FIRST *** Recent Poly form shows this surface is his caper and always a winning hope. 16
13 NINETYSEVEN GOLD * Appreciates first up run but like to see more before considering. 33

Race 7

Selections; 2 MISS BLANCHETT - 1 HOT GOLD - 6 KUBERA'S CHIEF - 4 SUPERTEN

While we will keep the likes of KUBERA'S CHIEF and SUPERTEN safe in this Class 5 turf sprint, HOT GOLD and MISS BLANCHETT should be fighting out this finish. HOT GOLD won in this Company not long ago and can bounce straight back into the winners circle after finding Class 4 too tough. Likewise MISS BLANCHETT wins in Class 5 sooner than later and might have the wood on HOT GOLD (just) given some solid form in Class 4 and also the fact she can lead which should be handy on this track. The E Course's bias towards those leading round the bend could see a forward showing from KUBERA'S CHIEF while SUPERTEN is in form and picks himself.

1 HOT GOLD *** Drops back to recent winning Company and in this a very long way from the ace. 3.00
2 MISS BLANCHETT *** Showed last start that this Class and track is her caper and wins sooner than later. 3.00
3 POP GEMS * Yet to show anything in Singapore but should improve dropping Class 5 with a market watch in order. 20
4 SUPERTEN *** In solid form and should figure in this finish. 5.00
5 HEAVENLY HAND ** Struggled last start from a wide alley but worth another look from gate 2 on form prior. 12
6 KUBERA'S CHIEF *** Won on the turf this trip two starts back and can go forward from the wide gate so keep safe at odds. 9.00
7 SPACE ODDITY * Easier to ignore on recent form. 100
8 ALWAYS THERE * Struggling. 100
9 LUCKY COMMAND ** Eighteen start maiden who is often thereabouts and can include in exotics. 20
10 DRAGON RUBY * No. 100
11 PERKINS * OK two starts back but easier to ignore as a rule. 20
12 BONJOUR BOB ** Excuses last start and that effort good enough to include in exotics. 20
13 EVERTRUST * Won over 1400m two starts back and could sneak place in this at odds. 20
14 CAPTAIN CLASSIQUE * No. 100

Race 8

Selections; 1 RIVER OF GOLD - 6 ENTHUSE - 5 NORTH SKY - 7 STOCK BROKER

A tough race for pundits given the top weight in RIVER OF GOLD is resuming after a bleeding attack and a newcomer in NORTH SKY is not without a chance. RIVER OF GOLD was in very good form prior to his bleeding attack and a very nice recent trial suggests he is ready to win first-up in what is a very suitable race. Likewise, NORTH SKY - who won over 1050m in Australia - looks suited in this Company over 1000m at his Singapore debut and a good local trial has him under notice with the market best guide. ENTHUSE and STOCKBROKER pick themselves on recent form with THUNDER CAT, AMAZING MAN and KAZUO all in the exotic mix.

1 RIVER OF GOLD *** Resuming (after bleeding attack) in a very suitable race and a recent trial suggests he could be hard to beat. 6.00
2 BURN NOTICE * No. 200
3 FINE CHOICE * Hard to have on recent form. 33
4 NINETYSEVENEMPEROR * Like to see more this campaign before considering. 33
5 NORTH SKY *** Former Australian who has trialled well enough locally to be very competitive with market best guide. 6.00
6 ENTHUSE *** In very solid form and wins this without surprising with forward run expected. 4.00
7 STOCK BROKER *** Can be hard to follow but backed up nice win with very solid placing and right in this. 5.00
8 AMAZING MAN ** Might need it a tad easier to win but in good form and gate 2 helps. 8.00
9 THUNDER CAT ** Surprised a few by winning in this Company last start but have to respect. 12
10 KAZUO ** Appreciates first up run and can include in exotics with lightweight. 20
