Race analysis and race selections for Friday's racing at Kranji
15 Jun 2017 | Singapore Turf Club

RACE 1

Not easy to pick a winner in this opener. On his last run when he nearly went all the way, Top Note (10) is sure to be a popular choice here, especially from his low draw. Will need to have things his way, though. Rikioh (6) ran well at his last outing when handier than usual. May have to drop back from the awkward alley. Doesn’t win often but in this moderate company, he may be a lot more competitive. Castle Queen (1) is down in grade. Form is rather ordinary but against this easier bunch, she may come to the fore and contest a place. She comes from behind, but could have still used a better draw. From barrier No 2, Cool Cat (9) cannot be ignored. Will be thereabouts.

RACE 2

This could be it for Champagne Rein (1). Keeps beating around the bush but that decisive kick is not quite there. Nonetheless, he should be right in the mix again. The drop back to 1000m may see Grey Falcon (3) go all the way. Has speed to burn and will be hard to catch if he has his way in front. Perfect Commando (7) was well rated in front at his last outing. May not be able to elect for the same tactics with Grey Falcon in this time around. Can also be held up for a run. Good gate. Decent claims. On Electric Avenue (5) was a big flop at his third start. Never showed the same form of his first two starts. Only excuse was his wide trip in the early stages. Drawn slightly better. Can atone.

RACE 3

A few choices on offer here. Perfect Girl (6) was one of the blackbookers at her debut. On that eye-catching second, she will have a few admirers here. There is a race for Redoubt (1) soon and this could be the one. Runs on in his races. Trip suits. Blinkers on. Commands respect. Why Not (5) stuck on well for fourth on debut. Has improved a few lengths since. Not winning material yet, but is a place chance. Will have to overcome an awkward alley, though. Saint Lincoln (4) warmed up late at his second outing. Seems to need more ground. Blinkers go on. Outside chance.

RACE 4

Close contest here. Magstock (1) will be a big runner over the 2000m trip. Chased hard over 1800m last time out but just could not peg back Dance In The Wind (2). Hideyuki Takaoka’s Japanese mare will again be hard to run down if she gets away with cheap sectionals upfront. Stick with her. Lucky Stride (6) again laid outwards at his last win. Should have scored by a wider margin. Changed yards since. Blinkers removed. In the firing line. Keep Spinning (4) was too far back at his last start. Will stay all day and won’t be far off when the whips are cracking.

RACE 5

Even race. Percius (4) is peaking and this race could well be the right one for him. Solid claims if he gets a cosy run in transit. Dreamer Legend (6) ran his best race to-date at his last outing two weeks ago. Will appreciate extra 200m. Winkers off. Nice gate. Go close. Blinkers seem to have improved Neo’s Classic (3) out of sight. Ran on late at his last couple of starts. Will probably be ridden for luck from outermost alley. Can finish on board. Aladdin (10) does pop up every now and then, but without really threatening the winners. May be the same story here. Marble one. Good for a place at a bit of value.

RACE 6

This is shaping up as a close contest. Conilad (8) attacked the line solidly to claim second place to Dinghu Mountain when first-up from a three-month layoff. Will strip fitter for this. Reverts to Polytrack over which he scored his debut win. Leading hope. Sun Mirage (2) is bound to be thereabouts again. Seldom disappoints and will fight out the finish. Anonymous (3) is no world beater but he is another horse who keeps steaming home but just always finds one or two better. Right-sided blinker-pacifiers and earmuffs on. Bears watching. Longhu (6) was never in doubt at his last start. It’s unlikely he will enjoy the same uncontested lead this time, but he can still make a fist of this.

RACE 7

On overall form, Superten (4) seems to be the most consistent customer here. Short Course in his favour. Nicely drawn in. Top pick. He will, however, have to keep an eye on Miss Blanchett (2) who was not disgraced at her last outing when back in grade and fourth to Humdinger. Merits consideration. Hot Gold (1) is dropping back in Class 5 where he scored his last win back in March. That may spark his form up again. Has drawn an alley. Place claims. Lucky Command (9) has lost his early speed. Came from behind to finish fourth to Funkadelic at his last start. Don’t underestimate him in this.

RACE 8

Open last race. Enthuse (6) was a touch disappointing at his last run, but to be fair, he was trapped deep throughout and was a spent force in the straight. Better gate this time. Ridden quieter, he can bounce back. Stock Broker (7) looked a winner last time out when he burst through late, but was denied by the fast-finishing Thunder Cat. Worth following again. If Thunder Cat (9) reproduces that electric turn of foot, he should be in the hunt again. Not a model of consistency, though, but is worth a place finish. River Of Gold (1) has sound place claims. Chance if he can tuck in somewhere with cover from the wide barrier. Podium finish not beyond him.
