Sunday meeting preview
11 Jun 2017 | By Larry Foley - kranjiracing.com

Sunday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

A terrific days racing that looks to have something for everyone including the Inglis Ready2Race Stakes for two-year-old's.

The juvenile event over 1200m on the turf (race 6) is the fourth leg of the Golden Horseshoe Series and while none of the winners of the previous legs are entered, it is a very good field with three horses - MOKASTAR, D’GREAT STAR and AUSPICIOUS DAY - that finished runner-up at their respective last starts entered.

Of the three, there was a lot to like about MOKASTAR’s debut and his subsequent trial suggests he has improved for the run.

But also from that trial is a raced maiden from New Zealand in MR HANKS and while he had a quiet hit-out on that occasion, his NZ form which included a 2YO listed placing was good and he wins without surprising.

MOKASTAR’s stablemate, the filly IFFRAGAL, also has placed form from NZ and her local trial certainly good enough to show up with Noreesh Juglall in the saddle.

Elsewhere on the card, BLUE SWEDE returns in race 9 - a Kranji Stakes A event over 1400m - and the Gold Cup placegetter has shown enough at a recent trial to consider at value in what is a sharp field.

Best Bets: (NORTHERN KNIGHT race 11, win), (WINNING TANGO race 4, value) and (BLUE SWEDE race 9, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 8 (1, 2 and 5), race 9 (1, 2, 3 and 4), race 10 (1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 12) and race 11 (3 and 8).

Race cards and Larry Foley's synopsis follows and for updates on all runners go to www.kranjiracing.com

Please note the odds listed are "reference odds" only.

Race 1

Selections; 3 SUN EMPIRE - 1 APOLLO - 2 SUGARTIME JAZZ - 4 FRENCH VINTAGE

A Class 5 with several class droppers involved. SUN EMPIRE will very much enjoy the drop to Class 5 and his recent trial was strong; he has won five times at this trip and should be in the finish. APOLLO's only win was before arrival but he will appreciate the drop to Class 5; with Michael Rodd to ride and a good gate he should be in the finish. SUGARTIME JAZZ has been running on solidly over shorter on the poly since returning to Class 5; he is suited by this trip and he should be closing late. These look the major chances. Of the others FRENCH VINTAGE has been improved by recent racing, his only win was at this trip and he could improve from the good gate. PARKER ran on nicely when resuming and is better suited by this trip. MISS STREISAND had support last start and this distance suits, she can show up from the good gate. TEMBUSU ESTRELA is a Maiden resuming but has shown up over the trip in the past and has Glen Boss to ride.

Race 2

Selections; 12 BRINGER OF WAR - 8 SILVER SKY - 3 CRAZY DREAMS - 5
LEONIDAS

Very little revealed form here for punters so the tote will be an excellent guide. The most interesting runner is the 2YO BRINGER OF WAR who has placed at both outings and with only 48kg should be hard to run down. SILVER SKY debuted well and will appreciate the senior rider; he has the speed to be prominent from the good gate. CRAZY DREAMS debuted well and his subsequent trial was sound; he should be improved and can be prominent. Of the unraced brigade, BOY WONDER trialled well as did the 2YO’s THOTH WARRIOR and BRIMSTONE. LEONIDAS also trialled good enough to consider on debut with gate 1 in his favour.

1 SUPER DRAGON * Yet to place in eight starts. Was fair over this trip two starts back and could show up. 20
2 BOY WONDER *** Brazilian bred By Mastro Lorenzo who has trialled nicely. Watch market. 12
3 CRAZY DREAMS *** Debuted well and subsequent trial was sound. Should be improved and can be prominent. 4.00
4 JADE DRAGON ** Had some support but was slowly away and battled at debut. Should improve. 16
5 LEONIDAS *** Official Trial was good enough to consider from gate 1 with market best guide. 16
6 NOVA CLASSIC * Inexperience costly when well back at both outings after some solid trials. 16
7 RIVER FORTUNE * Showed speed and faded at debut. Needs to improve. 33
8 SILVER SKY *** Debuted well and will appreciate senior rider. Has the speed to be prominent from the good gate. 4.00
9 BRIMSTONE * 2YO by Red Arrow. Brother 5-time winner Princess Arrow. Trial was fair. Watch market. 16
10 MIGHTY PHOENIX * 2YO who did nothing at debut. Needs to improve. 25
11 THOTH WARRIOR ** 2YO by Conatus. Half-brother to 4-time winner Nicabelle and 3-time winner Good Mood. Trial was solid. Watch market. 10
12 BRINGER OF WAR *** 2YO who has placed at both outings. Gets a tongue-tie and should be prominent throughout. 4.00

Race 3

Selections; 1 KINGS RYKER - 3 SUPER JOE - 7 NO SMOKING JEFF - 4 DUKE OF NORMANDY

An average group of Class 4 polytrackers. KINGS RYKER has moderate recent form but is better suited by this class and distance; his recent trial was strong and he should get a good run throughout. SUPER JOE returns to his winning surface and has won four times at this distance; he should get a good run throughout. NO SMOKING JEFF is racing soundly; he is suited by this distance and should be running on. There is limited depth in this race and that may suit ARIF who has battled since arrival but should like this distance and could show up from the good gate with blinkers back on. LIM'S BATTLE was plain last start and is better in a weaker grade but he has a good record at this distance and could show up. DUKE OF NORMANDY ran on well when resuming and ran 4th at his only previous poly run over this trip.

1 KINGS RYKER *** Recent form moderate but better suited this class and distance. Recent trial was strong and should get a good run throughout. 4.00
2 NORTHERN BOSS ** Gets a long way back but will be running on and could appreciate Alan Munro. 8.00
3 SUPER JOE *** Returns to winning surface and has won four times at this distance. Should get a good run throughout. 4.00
4 DUKE OF NORMANDY ** Ran on well when resuming. Ran 4th at only previous poly run over this trip. Should be running on. 8.00
5 GOLD HILL ** Ignore last start where he had traffic issues as shown previously he is competitive in this type of race. 16
6 ARIF ** Has battled since arrival but this distance suits and with winkers back on could show up from the good gate. 8.00
7 NO SMOKING JEFF *** Baked up Class 5 win with solid placing this Company and right in this. 6.00
8 LIM'S BATTLE ** Only battled last start on turf and better in weaker grade but has a good record at this distance/track and could show up. 8.00
9 COLONEL LINCOLN * Battled over this trip last start and only wins have been on turf. 25
10 MOON CHARM * Battles away but might need Class 5. 33

Race 4

Selections; 1 WINNING TANGO - 6 JUSTICE LIGHT - 4 LIBECCIO - 5 HAPPY BABY

Some of these have been close several times but not able to break through. Which will suit WINNING TANGO who had some support and you could make excuses at his first Singapore outing. He gets blinkers after a strong trial and expect improvement from the good gate. JUSTICE LIGHT was runner up at past three outings over this trip. From the good gate he gets another chance to break through. LIBECCIO has placed at seven of nine starts on turf but struggles to break through; he should be handy throughout. A number of the others are lightly raced or unseen in Singapore. AMIABILITY improved last start, he had placed four times in NZ before arrival and can show up with Alan Munro to ride. HAPPY BABY, ECLAIR SHADOW and SUPER ACE are capable of showing up. KING OF WAR was an expensive yearling but disappointed in Australia placing twice in six starts but his trials have been fair and Michael Rodd rides so watch market.

1 WINNING TANGO *** Had some support when excuses in Class 4 at first Singapore outing. Gets blinkers after a strong trial and can win. 6.00
2 AMIABILITY ** Placed four times in NZ before arrival. Improved last start and can show up with Alan Munro to ride. 8.00
3 ECLAIR SHADOW ** Disappointed last start and drops back in trip. Has placed at this trip and could improve. 12
4 LIBECCIO *** Has placed at seven of nine starts on turf but struggles to break through. Should be handy throughout. 4.00
5 HAPPY BABY ** Racing soundly on poly in Class 5 and has a turf placing over this trip. Can be prominent. 8.00
6 JUSTICE LIGHT *** Runner up at past three outings over this trip. From the good gate gets another chance to break through. 4.00
7 KING OF WAR ** Cost AUD 775K as a yearling but only managed to place twice from six starts in Australia before arrival. Most recent trial was sound and has Michael Rodd. Watch market. 16
8 SUPER ACE ** Improved last start in Class 5 and should be on the speed throughout. 8.00
9 EL CONDOR * Needs to improve on efforts to date. 33
10 TARZAN * Shown nothing so far. 33
11 GANGNAM CLASSIC ** Did nothing at only Irish start. Most recent trial was sound. Watch market. 20

Race 5

Selections; 5 GOOD LUCKY - 2 KASHAN - 4 GREATBALLS OF FIRE - 8 EVERTRUST

Another one of these low quality Class 5's. GOOD LUCKY was not far away last start and had excuses in running; he is suited by is distance and should be handy throughout. GREATBALLS OF FIRE has been running on from a long way back, he is better suited here and should be hard to hold off. EVERTRUST won one of these last start, he only rises 1kg and from the good gate can be in the finish again. KASHAN has been running on strongly at recent starts, he hasn't won for a while but should be in the finish. GOLDEN JADE ran on last start, his only wins have been on the poly but he could get a good run throughout. The rest are an ordinary lot but it is one of those races where any could win without surprising.

1 KEY ON KODIAC * Has been battling over longer but will appreciate being back on the turf with blinkers to winkers. 20
2 KASHAN *** Has been running on strongly at recent starts. Hasn't won for a while but should be in the finish. 4.00
3 MARGAUX * Only win was at this trip but needs to improve. 25
4 GREATBALLS OF FIRE *** Has been running on from a long way back. Better suited here and should be hard to hold off. 4.00
5 GOOD LUCKY *** Not far away last start and suited this distance. Should be handy throughout. 6.00
6 KING CROSS * 9YO who hasn't won for a long time. Only turf win was at this trip. 33
7 GOLDEN JADE ** Ran on last start. Only wins have been on poly but could get a good run throughout. 10
8 EVERTRUST *** Won one of these last start. Only rises 1kg and from the good gate can be in the finish again. 4.00
9 SUPER BIG ** Excuses last start and can include in exotics on form prior. 50
10 MILITARY ALLIANCE * Only win was on the poly and that was three years ago. 50
11 SUVARNABHUMI ** Finds it hard to win but suited this distance and will be running on. 10
12 ALADDIN * Occasionally runs on but hasn't won for over three years. 50

Race 6

Selections; 1 MR HANKS - 8 MOKASTAR - 12 IFFRAGAL - 4 D'GREAT STAR

A leg of the 2YO Golden Horseshoe series and with most being unraced or having only one start, the market may be the best guide. MR HANKS and IFFRAGAL have placings in strong NZ 2YO company, their trials have been solid enough to warrant a market watch. Of those we have seen AUSPICIOUS DAY is improving and from the good gate can be handy throughout. Both MOKASTAR and D'GREAT STAR showed speed and debuted well, however, neither have the best gates but experience counts and they should be prominent. Of the unraced, KISS YOUR SONG and ONE FORCE trialled well while IMDRAGON and SATELLITE GOLDEN are well related.

1 MR HANKS *** By Showcasing. Placed in Listed company in NZ and ran on well in Karaka Millions at last start before arrival. Quiet local trial. Can win. 6.00
2 AUSPICIOUS DAY ** Improving with racing and should be prominent throughout. 10
3 BEBOP ** By Rock'n'Pop. Trialled solidly but wide gate is a concern. 20
4 D'GREAT STAR *** Has support and showed speed at debut. Awkwardly drawn but should be prominent. 5.00
5 FIRST CHOICE * By Love Conquers All. Trialled fairly. Watch market. 33
6 IMDRAGON * By Hidden Dragon. Trialled only fairly and drawn wide so would need support with Nunes on. 12
7 KISS YOUR SONG *** By Your Song. Trials were good and looks to have speed so prominent run expected. 8.00
8 MOKASTAR *** Debuted nicely and should be improved on the back of another good trial. Can win. 4.00
9 ONE FORCE ** By Commands. Brother to winner Aanvoerder. Trialled well enough but in slow time. 12
10 SATELLITE GOLDEN ** By Congrats. Half-brother to Group winner Palacio De Cristal and 6 other winners. Most recent trial was an improvement. 12
11 SILENT BOSS *** By Street Boss. Half-brother to 5-time winner Steel Blue and two other winners. Trials good enough to go close on debut with Rodd a factor. 33
12 IFFRAGAL *** By Ifraaj. Placed in good 2YO company in NZ before arrival. Trialled well but awkwardly drawn. 10
13 LUCKY MASTER *** Charged home late at debut. Should be improved and 1200m may suit. 10
14 CONFIDE ** Excuses in running before fighting on at debut and can improve from the good gate. 25

Race 7

Selections; 2 DESTINY KNIGHT - 8 SUN HANCOCK - 9 DRAGON - 1 BLACK SWAN

A dour lot do battle over 2000m on turf with the majority being battling Maidens. DESTINY KNIGHT is racing well in this class and well drawn, he may have been better served with senior rider but does know how to win and should get a good run throughout. SUN HANCOCK broke through last start, is suited this distance and should be prominent throughout. DRAGON charged home last start and has placed at this trip; he doesn't win often but could be hard to hold off. Of the numerous Maidens BLACK SWAN, ORION and SUPER BUFFALO all have form over 2000m and get a chance to break through. Both URBAN LEGEND and ALFONSO win rarely but are suited in this company and can get in the finish.

1 BLACK SWAN *** 23 start Maiden but rarely far away and placed at only outing at this trip. Should get every chance with Michael Rodd to ride from a good gate. 8.00
2 DESTINY KNIGHT *** Racing well in this class and well drawn. May have been better served with senior rider but should get a good run throughout. 4.00
3 HOLY GRAIL *** Only placing was last start on poly but this distance may suit and Alan Munro stays on. 10
4 ALFONSO ** Runs on and claim may help so goes close with tongue-tie off and visor on. 14
5 ORION *** Still a Maiden but has placed 11 of 16 outings on turf including only try at this trip. 8.00
6 EAGLESHAM * Sixteen start Maiden who only battles. On trial at the trip. 33
7 SUPER BUFFALO ** Thirteen start Maiden who battles away and placed at only start over this distance. Should be handy throughout. 10
8 SUN HANCOCK *** Broke through last start and should be suited this distance. Should be prominent throughout. 5.00
9 DRAGON *** Charged home last start and has placed at this trip. Could be hard to hold off. 5.00
10 URBAN LEGEND ** Bobs up occasionally and has won at this trip. Could be closing late. 10

Race 8

Selections; 1 SUPER GENIUS - 5 KAISER BRIGHT - 2 ONE O NINE - 10 SECONDWAVE

An extremely weak Class 5 Poly Sprint to open the "Jackpot" or "Quaddie" for exotic players and hopefully we can narrow the winning chances down to just three in SUPER GENIUS, ONE O NINE and KAISER BRIGHT. Of the three, KAISER BRIGHT has the best-exposed form in similar affairs with a win and two placings from three starts this campaign. He is the benchmark although the maiden in SUPER GENIUS should be hardest to beat on what she showed from a wide gate at her first start in Class 5. She did it tough on that occasion so can win if Zawari can make use of gate 1 in this weak field. ONE O NINE was disappointing last start but is better than that in races like this and the market best guide on the rest.

1 SUPER GENIUS *** Maiden who was not far away last start in similar affair and hard to beat from the ace. 3.50
2 ONE O NINE *** Just fair last start but always a winning show this track and trip and appreciates better gate. 5.00
3 STARPERFECT * Will win in Class 5 but needs longer to show his best. 12
4 GOLDEN MISSION * Just battling of late but this is a weak field. 13
5 KAISER BRIGHT *** Has been in very good form at three runs this campaign and won't find one weaker than this. 3.00
6 LAM EDITION ** Not a mile away last start and can include in exotics on some recent Poly form. 12
7 GOLDEN BOBO * Golden No No. 50
8 GOLDEN ROSEWOOD ** Will work into this late at odds on recent solid form. 12
9 ROMA * Hard to have on recent form. 20
10 SECONDWAVE ** Found some form of late and a must for exotics. 12

Race 9

Selections; 4 BLUE SWEDE - 2 POSEIDON - 3 DANIEL - 1 BEST TOTHELIGN

The form line through the Group 3 Sass Fee looks the best place to start for this KSA and punters should make POSEIDON favourite on the back of his fourth placing in that Group event. That effort with support was excellent, as was his strong win in BM97 Company this trip two starts back. DANIEL was not far behind POSEIDON in the Saas Fee and gets is chance to knock in another win. The 6YO hasn't won this year (and only had one win in 2016) but is in solid form and 1400m look his caper. BEST TOTHELIGN was the other Saas runner who comes under notice and may be value given his run was better than the duck egg in the book. But with POSEIDON likely to start at a short quote, keep a very close eye on BLUE SWEDE at value. The Gold Cup placegetter was in fine form last campaign and a strong recent trial suggests he is ready to show his best first up.

1 BEST TOTHELIGN *** Saas Fee run better than the result and looks well placed here to give this a shake. 6.00
2 POSEIDON *** Took winning form into the Sass Fee and that run good enough to win this. 2.00
3 DANIEL *** Also comes off a very good run in the Saas Fee and right in this finish. 4.50
4 BLUE SWEDE *** Resuming after a very good run of form that included placing in the Gold Cup and recent strong trial has him under notice. 10
5 LASER STORM * Jockey suggested issues for poor run in the Saas Fee (no finding) and have to take on trust. 33
6 WHITE HUNTER ** Won well in easier Company last start and should give a sight out front but tested this level. 8.00
7 MR FANTASTIC ** Just fair in the Saas Fee but form prior has him competitive in this field with the lightweight. 20
8 GOLDEN CURL ** Honest and placed this trip two starts back so has to be a show at value. 20
9 ROYAL RULER ** Yet to win on the turf but honest enough to include in exotics. 20

Race 10

Selections; 5 SAVAGE STORM - 1 QUEEN ROULETTE - 8 SIAM SAPPHIRE - 4 SUPERSONICSURPRISE

Too many chances in this race to be confident and we should expect a fairly busy finish. And the 3YO's should have a big say with QUEEN ROULETTE, SIAM SAPPHIRE and AUSPICIOUS ACE all with winning hopes. Not much separates the trio but SIAM SAPPHIRE resuming with Nunes in the saddle will appeal to punters as will QUEEN SAPPHIRE who showed last start she wins soon in this Company on any surface. But a 6YO in SAVAGE STORM could be hardest to beat. The NZ-bred gelding has an excellent Poly record and will very much appreciate gate 7 after wider draws at his last two starts. The race has depth and SUPERSONIC SURPRISE is always a show in Poly sprints and BARNATO can overcome the widest gate to win on recent trial and race form while SHAQRAA with blinkers added the value runner.

1 QUEEN ROULETTE *** Drawn wide but showed last start she handles the Poly at this level and can win. 6.00
2 HERO CHAMPION * Struggling. 50
3 STAR KING ** Had support and looked to have every chance at Singapore debut and may need longer than this to show his best. 8.00
4 SUPERSONICSURPRISE *** Has been disappointing with support over similar trips as this late but always a show so keep safe. 6.00
5 SAVAGE STORM *** Has been doing it tough from wide gates of late and efforts suggests he goes mighty close with luck in running. 5.00
6 SURE WIN * Struggling at the business end. 33
7 BARNATO *** Wide gate always a concern but trialling and racing well enough to keep safe. 10
8 SIAM SAPPHIRE *** Resuming in a very suitable race and can win. 5.00
9 AUSPICIOUS ACE *** Filly who placed at odds over 1000m last start and worth thought from gate 1. 12
10 HIKO YUNIKON ** Refuses to run a bad race but might need easier to win. 12
11 FLYING SHADOW * Like to see something this campaign before considering. 50
12 SHAQRAA *** Gets blinkers after good effort in this Company after maiden Class 5 win. Keep safe. 10
13 HEE'S A MAVERICK * No. 100
14 XZUBERANCE * Solid last start but like to see over longer in easier Company. 50

Race 11

Selections; 4 NORTHERN KNIGHT - 8 SPLINTER - 1 AHMAR - 3 MARK ECLIPSE

While the lucky last has depth and should be a very competitive betting affair, NORTHERN KNIGHT looks ready to win and happy to make him one of the better bets on the 11 race card. The 5YO ran on very well after showing no interest early when resuming and if R Shafiq can have him better positioned from gate 4, he will take some holding out late. But as mentioned the field does have depth and you can make a serious case for the likes of MARK ECLIPSE and OLIVER although both have drawn wide so will need some luck in running. The 3YO SPLINTER also comes under consideration with gate 5 in his favour while AHMAR and GOLD CROWN are both very solid each-way hopes.

1 AHMAR *** Excuses last start over 1200m and won this trip in KSD two back so give another chance. 8.00
2 MANGATOETOENUI ** Just fair last start in similar affair but jockey did report respiratory issues. Take on trust. 12
3 MARK ECLIPSE *** Drawn wide but can lead and showed last start he wins sooner than later this campaign. 8.00
4 NORTHERN KNIGHT *** First up run a beauty considering he had no interest early and wins this with support likely. 4.00
5 OPTIMUS ** Lack on recent winning form a concern and drawn wide but always some show. 12
6 OLIVER *** Close up last start in similar affair and can win with John Powell retaining the ride. 8.00
7 GOLD CROWN *** Step up to 1400m looks a good move and each-way all the way. 8.00
8 SPLINTER *** Placed last start in similar affair and can go forward from the good gate and play a big part in this with winkers off. 4.50
9 GOL GOAL ** Has placed at this trip and can consider from gate 1. 20
10 JUBILATION * Last win was this trip but in easier Company and may need KSD. 33
11 HUMDINGER ** Needed Class 5 to find winning form but will be competitive with best work expected late. 20
12 IN BOCCA AL LUPO ** Yet to win on the turf but in honest form and can include in exotics at value. 33
13 ARR FLAIR * Blinkers off and 1400m on the turf may see improvement. 33
14 GOLDEN SPARK * Reassess in easier Company. 100
