Race analysis and race selections for Sunday's racing at Kranji
16 Apr 2017 | Singapore Turf Club

RACE 1

On his second-up win, Zac Ace (4) can be trusted again in spite of his awkward alley. Ran two nice barrier trials and merits plenty of thought. Ahmar (1) has already had eight runs and is still chasing his first win. Often thereabouts, he should be in the mix when the whips are cracking. Siam Gemstone (7) was a shade disappointing at his last run. He had excuses as he returned with a cut on his hind foot. Can make amends. Little Big Man (6) lost no marks when he flashed home for fourth at his last start. Faces stiff task, especially from wide barrier, but he can fill the minors.

RACE 2

The vastly-improved Justice Light (1) came close to winning his first race at his third run. Seems to handle turf better. Bears watching. Winterfell (2) is overdue for a win. The Showcasing grey has shown potential with four placings in seven starts. Ran a creditable second first-up. Nice gate and is one of the main chances. Super Tycoon (3) has changed yard and recorded a dominant nine-length barrier trial win last Thursday. Tongue-tie off. Go close. Magic City (11) is a Brazilian newcomer for Laurie Laxon. Won a barrier trial on March 30. Has the job ahead from the wide gate, but is still worth a bet.

RACE 3

Golden Peninsula (7) is only lightly-raced but is certainly not a bad sort. Raced better without blinkers at his last outing. One to follow closely. Millennium’s Rule (5) did not finish far off the winner at his last run. Don’t ignore him. Mr Crowe (2) was in the firing line at his last outing but just lacked extra late. Has some degree of ability and should be able to fight out the finish again. Damon (3) stormed home late at his last two starts. Stays too far back. Will be more dangerous if he can get his timing right.

RACE 4

South African-bred Mr Fantastic (6) is always hard to topple when he gets his own way upfront. Each-way claims. Low draw. Poseidon (3) returned to his best form at his last run. Has trained on and can measure up at BM97 level. Bahana (1) makes his racing comeback since his Singapore Gold Cup triumph in November. Distance is ideal first-up and though he may need the run, he can still steal a place with a bit of luck. Viviano (5) warmed up to the task too late at his last outing. Going great guns and is expected to give this a shake.

RACE 5

Stick with Ocean De Lago (1). Ran on late and with a bit of luck, he can return to winning ways here. Lim’s Elusive (4) tends to leave his runs too late. If he is launched at the right time, he can account for this lot. Awkward alley. Lim’s Archer (2) seems to be looking for more ground. A genuine pace will suit him. Nicely drawn and can threaten here. No reason why Mr Exchequer (8) cannot repeat his last run even if this is a different kettle of fish. Has improved a few lengths and is worth some consideration.

RACE 6

The Group 3 JBBA Moonbeam Vase is an open contest this year. Gilt Complex (6) is in tip-top shape and looks suited in this. Bound to play a major part at the business end. Infantry (3) lost no marks at his last run finishing less than one length off the winner Time Odyssey (4). Can turn the tables on Time Odyssey with the three-kilo pull in weights. Visors off. Keep Spinning (11) scored an impressive win in a 2200m race. This is a step-up in class and a drop back to 1800m but he is still in good shape and can hold his own here.

RACE 7

Irish-bred Arif (1) turned in a much more encouraging run second-up when fourth to Could Be Pearls a fortnight ago. On the way up and should be given some serious thought now as he ventures over more suitable trips. Special Force (5) lost no friends with his tenacious second in a 2200m race last time out. Back in Class 4 and should be competitive here again. Justice Grace (3) was left a little flat-footed when Keep Spinning took off from the 600m last time out. Out-and-out stayer who is not without a say here. City Of Kirkwall (2) will stay all day. Seldom disappoints in such races. Warrants consideration.

RACE 8

No real standout here. Gold Crown (6) has not run a bad race this term. Very good chance. Ignore Southern Dragon’s (2) last run when he was trapped deep and was a spent force at the top of the straight. Bounced back with two barrier trial wins. Tongue-tie on. In great nick and can atone even if he has drawn badly again. Dicaprio (12) is young and still learning his trade but on his best form he can stake a claim in this. Drawn in barrier No 2. Can make the quartet. Star Invincible (11) has found the opposition richer after his maiden win. This one looks a little easier and a place is not beyond him.

RACE 9

Rising star Lim’s Cruiser (7) is back after his big win in the Rocket Man Sprint. Will strip even fitter for this run. A brisk pace will suit him. Good barrier and is definitely in with a big say. Alibi (8) is in flying form after his winning comeback two weeks ago. Looks tested at this level but he deserves a shot at glory. Don’t write off Emperor Max (1) even if he has been out of competition for one year. Looks in fine fettle on the training tracks. No reason why he can’t stake a claim first-up. Storm Troops (5) is an up-and-coming sort who is also facing a big task, but he is going well and is worth a place bet. Wide gate is a query.

RACE 10

Handy performer Elusive Emperor (2) is maintaining his good form at the minute. Wide alley does not really matter as he can get back. Expected to have a strong say in this. Night Flight (4) is back from a seven-month break. Bidding for a three-in-a-row which is doable given his solid first-up record. Tongue-tie on. Caorunn (10) is making good headway. Given a quiet trial last Thursday. Can finish in the trifecta. Super Line (8) has lost his way a little but gave a reminder of his ability at his last run. Reverts to turf over which he won once. Strong handling from Benny Woodworth will suit. Can surprise.

RACE 11

Competitive line-up. Royal Diwan (7) served notice of his ability at his Kranji debut with a fast-finishing third over 1100m. Pacifiers and earmuffs on. Will relish the extra 100m. Hades (1) nearly sprang an upset at his last run. If he reproduces that run, he should be a major force to reckon with here. Zippy General (5) has been around the mark of late and should be able to make his presence felt again. Give Miss Blanchett (13) a place chance. Tried her best behind Chalaza at her last run and struck on really well for third. Include in calculations.
