Race analysis and race selections for Sunday's racing at Kranji
02 Dec 2017 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk

RACE 1

The final race meeting of 2017 at Kranji starts with a reasonable high weighted Class 5. GET GOING (1) has been very frustrating for connections with just one win in Singapore from 40 starts, however he is a model of consistency. The booking of apprentice Zawari Razali looks a positive move for Get Going who sat up on the pace last week. He was just run over at the end of the 1400m trip and drops back to a suitable 1200m here. He doesn’t do a lot of racing on the Polytrack but does have some handy performances on the surface in the past. PARKER (3) has a good record at Class 5 level and shouldered the 59kg to run a creditable second place in similar race recently. LIM’S STARDOM (2) has been running around in unsuitable races and now returns to Class 5 where he boasts an unblemished record having won carrying 59kgs back in August with jockey Olivier Placais aboard. The Frenchman is back in the saddle and the addition of the blinkers is a positive sign, however the awful barrier draw will make it tough. TURQUOISE SON (4) is shooting for the hat-trick with recent wins coming with 54kgs and 53.5kgs. This is tougher with 59kgs but the 7yo is in solid form.

RACE 2

An initiation over 1200 with six newcomers who will take on some lightly-raced types. BOY WONDER (1) slipped on the final bend and courageously surged to the front before being outkicked near the line. He is beautifully drawn and deserves to win after the terrific run on Gold Cup day. This promising type is now with new trainer Saimee Jumaat. CROWN GIFT (10) ran a super race last time sitting out wide before eventually running out of steam. Trained by Young Keah Yong who is still winless as a trainer, he will be suited back to 1200m. He is only a 3yo so he will get weight relief from some of his fancied older rivals. ELENA OF AVALOR (8) is 4yo mare trained by Michael Clements. On debut she fought hard but was soundly beaten after coming from Gate 1. She has drawn poorly and will need to use up her early speed if she is going to race in a forward position. LONHRO GOLD (11) produced a creditable performance on debut behind the handy Magic Wand and he's sure to improve for the experience. Unfortunately he has drawn a poor gate, so visiting jockey William Pike will need plenty of luck in running.

RACE 3

The third race is a Class 4 over 1100m. THE COSMOS (3) is a nice Class 4 horse who was found to be not striding out freely when beaten five lengths last start. He is a consistent performer who will be hard to beat if he has recovered from his issues last time. The Mark Walker-trained gelding has had a short break and returns with Vlad Duric in the saddle. BUENOS AIRES (6) had a perfect run last start and was no match for the winner. He is not a superstar but he is getting fitter and after three runs in Singapore a win might be on the horizon for the China Horse Club-owned stallion. LADRONE (7) has had a couple of recent trials and will resume from a four month break. He is a fast type but he will have to work early from a poor draw. If he gets a soft lead he will be hard to catch. DAN THE MAN (1) won a Karaka Million as a 2yo in New Zealand. He is really struggling to get his career back on track but perhaps with the drop into Class 4 and the addition of Blinkers he can find his form again. Watch the market on him.

RACE 4

GOLD CITY (7) lost nothing in behind some useful colts and geldings last time out when fourth in the race won by King Louis over 1200m on Gold Cup day and a step-up in distance looks as if it will suit nicely. She is now into Class 4 company which will make life a bit tougher but she is lightly raced and drops a couple of kilos in weight and it is worth taking a chance with her here. PAPARAZZI (3) ran no sort of race last time we saw him and that could well have been attributed to the quicker going, having won on a slightly softer surface any rain would be a big plus for him and it's possible he can bounce back. Down at the bottom of the weights is MOON CHARM (12) who won well enough last time out to suggest a light to suggest a good run off 51kgs in Class 4 is not beyond her. And finally, SOUTHERN SPUR (6) is a bit of an unknown at this trip which is a concern but did run very well last time out and must be included.

RACE 5

FORESTO (3) is big strong type who should handle the 58.5kg. He has only had the five runs in Singapore and he looked to appreciate the 1600m recently. On that occasion he finished behind the in-form Tesoro Privado in a much stronger event. He is tackling a Class 5 event for the first time and is sure to appreciate the drop in class. The Cliff Brown stable can do no wrong currently and he looks a big chance. HONGCHEN (1) is in the veteran stage of his career. He placed in a Kranji D over 1600m on the turf only 3 months ago so he must rate a chance with a handy 2kg apprentice claim. Trialled recently and is worth considering now he drops in grade. SATELLITE PRINCE (4) is a course and distance specialist. Should race handy and prove hard to beat if he handles lumping the 58.5kgs. SHUYING XIAOXIAO (5) returns to the mile. He has already won twice over course and distance and after two runs back from a long spell he should start to show signs of improvement although a senior rider would have been preferred.

RACE 6

The sixth is a Class 4 over 1600m. CHOCOLATS (5) was highly fancied on Gold Cup day but he got stopped in his tracks in the straight and never got a clear run. Forgive him for that and expect a nice performance stepping up to 1600m. The Shane Baertschiger-trained gelding is still yet to prove himself at the mile but his dam was a Zabeel mare so he should handle the longer trip. STORM TROOPER (3) is always dangerous at this level. Trying to catch him on his day is never easy but if the pace is on he is sure to be flying home. TURF CHAMPION (10) is a 2000m winner from Australia who produced a pleasing first-up performance in Singapore running a creditable fourth at his first outing in the Lion City and he meets the winner of that race Heracles, 5.5kgs better off. The son of Daliapour jumps up to 1600m and is sure to appreciate the extra ground. Turf Champion has trialled nicely since and with Manoel Nunes in the saddle looks a likely improver. MAJESTIC EMPRESS (4) met with horrible conditions last start and the run is best ignored. She is backing up which would indicate the Ricardo Le Grange-trained mare took no harm and can be followed with confidence if she gets a better track.

RACE 7

A quality line-up of Polytrack sprinters here! And the top pick will be SKYWALK (11) to hold on to his unbeaten record on the surface. This James Peters-trained 4yo was nothing short of brilliant last time when winning and in the process clocking an eye popping 57.92!! (new course record). Having run a huge race when 4th to Countofmontecristo in the 3yo Sprint he has returned better than ever and has a good draw to go with just 51kgs. He can come out on top here with the visiting Daniel Moor in the plate. SUPER FORTUNE (9) is rapidly improving at the moment and it doesn’t look to be stopping anytime soon. This, however ,will be his first run on Polytrack and needs to translate his turf form, but he has won a couple of trials and certainly has the form behind him to continue on his upward trajectory. NOVA SWISS (1) is a class act in these types of events and last time out was right back to his very best with a good win, a trial winner since (59.74) he will have to give 3kgs and more away to some very useful types in this which will make things tougher but he can still fill the frame. ANONYMOUS (12) is backing up relatively quickly having finished off well last Friday in the quickest closing sectional of 23.99 behind Julius Caesar and will benefit from stronger handling and will get the strong pace he deserves.

RACE 8

This event is a staying race over 2000m. DARSHINI (1) failed to make the field for the Dester Singapore Gold Cup but he is racing in fantastic form coming through the Group 3 El Dorado where he ran fourth. His recent form around the likes of Chairman, Secret Win and Perfect P is fantastic and a win here would be reward for some terrific recent racing. SHOW FAR SHOW GOOD (2) is a noted pace maker who has enjoyed a break-out season. He will look to dictate the tempo and if the track is playing to front runners he will be suited. Furthermore if the track is wet he will grow an extra leg as he loves the sting out of the ground. SHOQEET (8) fought strongly recently to win on the Polytrack over 1800m and trainer Saimee Jumaat has a high opinion of this promising stayer. He has more weight over longer but it will be interesting to see how he copes. MIGHTY EMPEROR (3) is an honest staying type. His form around some handy types suggests that he should be considered closely for wider bet types.

RACE 9

The final feature race of the year is the Group 3 Colonial Chief over 1700m on the Polytrack. MIGHTY KENNY (5) produced an amazing performance in the Gold Cup and proved a real surprise packet storming home to finish sixth after copping nasty interference. He is racing in career best form and goes very well on the surface. MAGSTOCK (10) is a quality 5yo who is rarely sighted on the Polytrack surface. He trialled well on the surface recently and he continues to hold quality recent form. NOVA STRIKE (7) is coming to the end of a busy season which saw him run third in the Derby. Last time he finished out wide when running home fairly in the EW Barker Trophy at Group 2 level. Trainer Alwin Tan has opted to apply the pacifiers for his final run of the year. LAUGHING GRAVY (9) is flying on the training track and got too far back in the Singapore Gold Cup. There is plenty of pace here so he may not be able to lead this field but he has been running in much better races recently and should be respected.

RACE 10

It will be no great surprise to see TANNHAUSER (3) jump as one of the shortest-priced favourites of the day here and given the fact he is unbeaten on the surface and has also trialled very nicely leading up to this return to action, he should prove extremely hard to beat in this and is destined for big and better things. LIM'S RACER (12) is right down at the foot of the handicap and she is a classy mare on her day having won a Group 2 as a juvenile and has also looked good at the trials recently when chasing home Cadet in a very slick time and she can run a huge race. GOLDEN TOMAHAWK (2) should not be forgotten about even on the back of that below-par run last time, he has never been out of the first four in all his starts at this level and it is also advised to include SIAM SAPPHIRE (9) in the combinations as he has a good Polytrack record, and if he can overcome the bad post position he should run another honest race here.

RACE 11

This is the final race of a brilliant, inspiring season. O’WHAT A FEELING (5) has had two runs back from a break and flown home in both. His career wins have been over 1400m and 1600m, so he will enjoy the extra ground here. KING LOUIS (6) has been purchased as a potential Singapore Guineas horse and showed that he has plenty of talent and courage when posting a gutsy first-up victory. The extra ground will suit and if the 1200m first-up win hasn’t taken anything out of him, he should be even better suited in this. DREAMWEAVER (3) loves to lead but hasn’t been able to find the conditions to suit recently. If he could find the front here on the Short Course he will be hard to catch if he replicates his best form.  GOLD CROWN (2) is an honest type who doesn’t know how to run a bad race and simply must be included in wider bets. Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas, we look forward to tipping many, many more winners in 2018.
