Friday meeting preview
05 Oct 2017 | By Larry Foley - kranjiracing.com
Friday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

A solid Friday night’s racing at Kranji and while we will take more than a passing interest n some good punting affairs earlier in the card, some very good racing late will be the focus.

It’s a mixed surface affair and the best race on the turf is a Kranji Stakes C event (race 6) where some very progressive middle distance horses do battle over the mile.

GOLD FAITH has the recent winning form to his name and the 4YO Irish-bred gelding will have plenty of support as he attempts a hat trick of wins.

But he is up in grade and the likes of MR SCORSESE, IRON MAN and GOLAZO will be right in the wining mix, as will MURRAYFIELD who could get out to each-way value.

The best Poly race on the card is up next (race 7), where some in-form and serious Poly sprinters do battle over 1100m in Open Benchmark 83 Company.

And while CONSTANT JUSTICE and MIGHTY CONQUEROR will garner most support on the tote, it will pay to keep the likes of PIONEER SEVEN and POLE PARADISE safe as the pair can win and should be value.

Best Bets: (HAYTHAM race 3, win), (DELFYNE race 1, value) and (PIONEER SEVEN race 7, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 5 (1, 5, 7 and 9), race 6 (1, 2, 5, 6 and 8), race 7 (3, 5, 6 and 9), race 8 (1, 2, 4, 5 and 9).

Race cards and Larry Foley's synopsis follows and for updates on all runners go to www.kranjiracing.com

Please note the odds listed are "reference odds" only.

Race 1
Selections; 1 DELFYNE - 6 TRIGGER MAN - 4 FLYING SHADOW - 11 LUCKY BOY
A relatively tricky Class 5 Poly sprint to start the eight-race card and like many of the races with multiple Class droppers involved, the tote will be our best friend. Case in point will be DELFYNE who hasn't started under 20-1 of late but could go close to favourite dropping to Class 5. The 7YO mare has been tough to follow but she has won on the Poly in Class 4 and her form of late good enough to win this. TRIGGER MAN disappointed last start with heavy support but given the jockey suggested he would be better suited over more ground, he is worth a serious look over 1200m. There does look depth in this race so go wide in exotics, however, both FLYING SHADOW and LUCKY BOY look like winning sooner than later and must be respected. Betting Strategy - DELFYNE each-way.
1 DELFYNE *** Significant drop in Class and efforts since blinkers went on good enough to win this. 5.00
2 PHIDIAS ** Will appreciate Class 5 and only placing since arrival was over this trip on the Poly. Watch for support. 20
3 AURORA AUSTRALIS ** Maiden who placed in this Company last start and should figure again. 6.00
4 FLYING SHADOW *** Excuses two starts back when supported and showed last start he wins in Class 5 sooner than later. 6.00
5 GOLDEN MILE ** Looked to have every chance with support last start and just battled late so place looks best. 8.00
6 TRIGGER MAN *** Struggled with heavy support last start but should appreciate extra distance and worth another look. 4.00
7 OBSTACLES FREE ** Solid without being a threat of late but another that should appreciate 1200m and can consider at odds. 20
8 RED RIDING WOOD * Gets top hoop but should need longer. 20
9 AMERICAN SNIPER * Firing blanks. 50
10 ANY RUMOUR ** Excuses last start over the mile and did place this trip two starts back so can consider. 10
11 LUCKY BOY *** Also dropping back from the mile but this trip looks his car and goes close. 8.00
12 SUPER EIGHT ** Resuming with a solid trial under his belt and always a show in race like this. 12
13 SACRED CROWN * Drawn badly and form just fair. 50
Race 2
Selections; 1 SATTAR - 9 FILIBUSTER - 5 DESTROYER ECLIPSE - 4 CROWN GIFT
The truism 'odds on, look on' would have been ringing in the ears of punters if they have been following the Ricky Le Grange maiden, SATTAR. The 3YO Australian bred gelding has been sent off as the odds-on punters elect at all three career starts and the fact he hasn't managed to win is a huge concern. Yes, he just missed on debut to a subsequent winner in Yabadabadoo, but he is desperate for a result with heavy supply likely again. The good news is that he can win this with only the filly, FILIBUSTER, likely to be a serious threat. The Australian-bred 3YO looks the best of the newcomers from what we have seen at the trials but she will need luck on debut after drawing wide. The tote will be an excellent guide on the rest but DESTROYER ECLIPSE and CROWN GIFT have shown enough at the trials to respect. Betting Strategy - Standout 1 and 9 in any exotics.
1 SATTAR *** Beaten as the odds-on pop at all three starts so caution advised but gets his chance in this field. 2.50
2 NOVA STORM ** Winkers off after being slow out with support at his last start and have to take on trust. 8.00
3 MIRACLE KID * Did it tough last start but needs to show more. 33
4 CROWN GIFT ** Australian bred 3YO who has trialled well enough to keep safe on debut. 33
5 DESTROYER ECLIPSE ** Kiwi gelding who looked solid at the trials and worth a market watch from gate 1. 8.00
6 HARVEYWALLBANGER * Local trials only fair but gets Rodd so market watch in order. 20
7 LIM'S RHYTHM ** Trial sans headgear solid enough to keep safe with Zawari a factor. 20
8 REIGN ** Has battled at the business end at both start but could appreciate the Poly and race experience. 12
9 FILIBUSTER *** Three-year-old filly who has drawn wide for debut but trials nice enough to win. 3.00
10 MAKE U FAMOUS ** Led and almost pinched one at very long odds last start over this trip and have to consider. 20
11 ULTIMATE KILLER * Did it tough on debut but showed little. 100
Race 3
Selections; 8 HAYTHAM - 3 SPECIAL KING - 6 MY HORSE - 2 HOST THE NATION
A weak Class 4 field suggests HAYTHAM can get his act together and knock in another win. The 4YO rarely runs a bad race but has only won once from some 10-career starts, which is obviously a concern. In saying that, he flew home late last start through traffic and happy to think he gets the favours from gate 4 and can win with an in-form Oscar Chavez retaining the ride. The biggest danger is SPECIAL HORSE who, like HAYTHAM, is honest enough but is yet to break through in Class 4. His three efforts since his maiden win have been good enough for this though and gate 1 can't hurt. Of the rest, MY HORSE always looks some hope in races like this and HOST THE NATION is the improver at odds dropping to Class 4. Betting Strategy - HAYTHAM win. 3 and 8 swinger.
1 NOVA WARRIOR * Appreciates Class 4 but like to see more for new trainer before considering. 20
2 HOST THE NATION ** Form reads terribly but suited this Company and pay to keep very safe. 20
3 SPECIAL KING *** Solid without winning in Class 4 since maiden win but gets his chance from gate 1. 3.00
4 BIGDINERO ** Impossible on race form but recent trial OK and could improve. 33
5 NATURAL IMPULSE ** Tough to follow but supported when winning two starts back and pay to keep safe. 12
6 MY HORSE *** Looked to have every chance last start in similar affair but gets his chance in this field. 5.00
7 BELLUS WONDER ** Always a show on the Poly but took Class 5 to win and wide gate makes this tough. 12
8 HAYTHAM *** Plenty of excuses from wide gate before storming home last start in similar affair and hard to hold out here. 4.00
9 UNCLE LUCKY ** Struggled when the pressure went on last start but worth another look on form prior. 7.00
10 SILENT ARROW ** Just fair of late but blinkers removed could see improvement. 20
11 MASTERMIND * Excuses last start but needs Class 5. 50
Race 4
Selections; 1 ATHENA - 2 NEW SENSATION - 7 DISCRETELY RED - 5 NORTHERN SUN
Some nice types will head to the start in this Maiden and with a couple of the fancies in ATHENA and NEW SENSATION drawn wide with claimers on, it may be a case of punter beware. But happy to think both can win with luck in running and ATHENA did look a good thing beaten last start and definitely worth another look with Amirul (2kg) to ride. NEW SENSATION gets a Syafiq 3 kg claim and will probably go forward from gate 13 and he is certainly overdue to break his maiden status. Plenty of others to consider including DISCRETELY RED who gets head-gear after hanging out last start, the solid NORTHERN SUN and SAHABA who is yet to miss a place from three starts and gets a 2kg claimer for this. Keep GANGNAM CLASSIC safe as he gets blinkers for the first time so could improve lengths. Betting Strategy - DISCRETELY RED each-way, saver on GANGNAM CLASSIC.
1 ATHENA *** Looked a good thing beaten in a similar affair when supported last start and hard to hold out here. 4.00
2 NEW SENSATION *** Drawn wide but foot well and truly on the till and forward run expected here. 3.00
3 SAHABA *** Yet to miss a place at three career starts but a long way from the winner last start. 5.00
4 GRAND CANYON ** Former Australian who has trialled well enough locally to keep safe with one eye on the market. 12
5 NORTHERN SUN *** Supported and showed enough last start on the turf to follow each-way. 10
6 YULONG HOLY FLYING * Needs to show more. 200
7 DISCRETELY RED *** Hung out badly last start so gets blinkers and a big show on previous form and recent trial with headgear. 8.00
8 GANGNAM CLASSIC ** Hard to have on race form but gets blinkers first time and best trial was with headgear so is the improver. 20
9 HIGH STREET * Struggling. 200
10 PARAGON STAR ** Disappointing last start in Class 5 but gets blinkers (sans tongue-tie) and 1400m on turf suits. 12
11 ENERGIZER * Shown glimpses but recent form poor. 20
12 AEOLUS * Nothing last start and needs easier than this. 100
13 NATURAL WATER * Struggles as a rule. 200
Race 5
Selections; 5 KASHAN - 7 PERFECT CHALLENGER - 1 FAST JET - 9 TURQUOISE SON
Some extremely unreliable types in this Class 5 (division 2) Poly sprint and it goes without saying that punters will have to tread carefully. KASHAN has won once from 28 starts (Poly mile) and while his lack of winning form is a worry and is dropping back in trip, he is honest enough to follow in a weak race like this and he will be doing best work late under a rejuvenated Oscar Chavez. PERFECT CHALLENGER is also worth a look given he did it tough last start and battled on well and with a better run expected from gate 1, he goes close. FAST JET and TURQUOISE SUN also can win and again, the tote will be an excellent guide. Betting Strategy - Box trifecta 1, 5, 7 and 9.
1 FAST JET *** Jockey reported issues last start and did look due prior so happy to follow. 8.00
2 SMIDDY BYRNE * Coming off two shockers but better form of late on the poly and could improve at long odds back on the all-weather. 50
3 YOURSTOKEEP * Battled away without being a threat at first run for new stable last start and needs to lift. 20
4 TOOBIGTOFAIL ** Should need longer again to win but ran on well last start over 1100m and pay to keep safe. 15
5 KASHAN *** Back in trip and another that should need longer to win but in form and can win this. 4.00
6 MILLION ROUND ** Saddle slipped when placing last start when supported and well worth another look. 6.00
7 PERFECT CHALLENGER *** Did it tough last start and his effort late and form prior suggest he can win this with gate 1 a factor. 6.00
8 DRAGON RUBY ** Has run on well to place twice from his last three starts and expect much the same. 6.00
9 TURQUOISE SON *** Refused to go a yard early last start before running on late with support and did look due prior so can win. 6.00
10 SILENT CONNECTION * Resuming with tongue-tie and wide gate make this tough. 33
11 BOHEMIAN * Better on the turf over longer. 200
12 PURE WHITE ** Battled on well last start over longer but versatile enough to include in exotics. 12
13 CASSIS OOLONG * Nuisance value only. 33
Race 6
Selections; 1 MR SCORSESE - 2 IRON MAN - 5 GOLD FAITH - 8 MURRAYFIELD
One of the smaller fields but one of the most interesting on the card with some very progressive horses involved. And while GOLD FAITH comes into this with two good wins under his belt and the likes of GOLAZO and MURRAYFIELD win without surprising, the two top-rated horses in MR SCORSESE and IRON MAN appeal. Not much separates the pair but MR SCORSESE had excuses last start over 1400m and gets his chance with John Powell from gate 6. IRON MAN will find this Company to his liking after some good efforts against some good horses of late and Barend Vorster will be confident of a very prominent showing. Betting Strategy - MR SCORSESE win. 1 and 2 swinger.
1 MR SCORSESE *** Excuses last start in similar affair and hard to hold out with an ounce of luck in running. 4.00
2 IRON MAN *** Has only won once in Singapore but in good form and will find this easier than recent outings. Goes close. 4.00
3 BANDIDO ** Can mix his form but ran on well at odds last start over this trip and pay to keep safe. 12
4 EN CIVIL ** Showed last start he can handle the Company and mile no issue so must be respected. 12
5 GOLD FAITH *** Found his feet in Singapore with two good wins and have to follow. 6.00
6 GOLAZO *** Did it tough last start and went close and right in this with softer run in transit. 6.00
7 JUSTICE FAIR ** Progressive type who showed more than enough over 1200m last start to follow over a more suitable trip. 12
8 MURRAYFIELD *** Excuses last start including debris in trachea and always a solid each-way show in race like this. 5.00
9 BLACK THUNDER * Resuming after issues last start and needs to show more. 50
Race 7
Selections; 3 CONSTANT JUSTICE - 6 MIGHTY CONQUEROR - 5 PIONEER SEVEN - 9 POLE PARADISE
A cracking BM83 Poly sprint and happy to think MIGHTY CONQUEROR could be hard to hold out with any luck in running. The 5YO was gunning for a hat trick of wins last start before finding all sorts of trouble and he looks a horse to follow. In saying that, CONSTANT JUSTICE will find this company to his liking and can add another win to his impressive CV. His three wins in Singapore have all been on the Poly and given he did it reasonably tough against some top 'dirt' sprinters last start, he will be hard to hold out. PIONEER SEVEN will also find this company more suitable and could be an excellent value pick from gate 3 while POLE PARADISE might also be a solid value option with a tongue-tie added to his gear. Betting Strategy - PIONEER SEVEN each-way.
1 ECLAIR CHOICE * Resuming for new stable. Has pace to burn but struggles late as a rule. 20
2 LASER STORM * Jockey reported issues last start and can storm home if right. 33
3 CONSTANT JUSTICE *** Just missed in very good Company last start this trip and hard to beat. 2.20
4 GRAND CROSS ** Resuming. Speedy and should figure prominently from the ace. 12
5 PIONEER SEVEN *** Did it tough last start and a big show on form prior from gate 3. 12
6 MIGHTY CONQUEROR *** Drawn wide but looked a good thing beaten last start and looks up to this Company. 4.00
7 RED DAWN ** Blinkers on after being super disappointing last start and some show on good form prior. 20
8 AL GREEN ** Progressive type who won at only start on the Poly and should keep a few honest here. 6.00
9 POLE PARADISE *** Gets tongue-tie after issues last start and a big each-way show on Poly form prior. 10
10 SUPER SIX ** Excuses last start and could include in skinny end of exotics if budget permits. 33
Race 8
Selections; 9 TEMBUSU ESTRELA - 1 BROTHER WIND - 5 LORD OF CLOUD - 4 GOLD CROWN
Three last start winners suggests the lucky last has plenty of horses in good form and while we rarely give much thought about Class 5 winners up in grade, TEMBUSU ESTRELA could be the exception. The 6YO took a while to find his feet in Singapore but his three runs this campaign (and year) have suggested he has found another gear and his two good wins suggests he has more to offer. But the race has plenty of very honest Class 4 horses to think he has to improve again to win with BROTHER WIND, HUMDINGER and GOLD CROWN all in the winning mix. Debut winner, LORD OF CLOUD, is also under serious consideration with support expected. Betting Strategy - TEMBUSU ESTRELA each-way.
1 BROTHER WIND *** In very honest good form of late and right in this finish. 4.00
2 HUMDINGER *** Won a similar affair last start and goes close again although has to carry an extra 3kg. 5.00
3 ON ELECTRIC AVENUE * Just battled last start so blinkers off but query on the turf. 20
4 GOLD CROWN *** Super honest and will give a big each-way sight. 6.00
5 LORD OF CLOUD *** Beat some handy enough maidens on debut and happy to think he is up to this Class 4 company. 12
6 MILLENNIUM'S RULE ** Resuming sans blinkers and has shown enough to keep safe in a race that suits. 12
7 LAUGHING BUFFALO ** Improved effort last start in slightly easier company and gets blinkers so pay to keep safe. 12
8 LIM'S GREETING ** Had issues (lame and irregular heart rhythm) when fave last start but worth thought on big run prior. 20
9 TEMBUSU ESTRELA *** Up in Class but just winning too well in Class 5 not to be a show here. 4.00
10 TRIGAMY * Maiden who can find easier. 100
11 MASURAO ** Resuming after showing he was up to this Class last start and pay to keep very safe. 20
12 CHAIRMAN WIND * Better than what he has shown of late but looking for Class 5. 50
