10 Nov 2010 | by Jeff Dore

PREVIEW

WEDNESDAY November 10 2010

Canterbury Jockey Club at Riccarton
Premier meeting
Fine and Good3 (2.3 – 2.5)
Rail: True

Horses previewed in numerical order

Race 11           Coupland’s Bakeries Mile (Group II) 1600m

2 BARINKA – Hayden Tinsley
Following a patient ride she won a close finish under hands and heels by this ride at Awapuni over 1400m on Good3 after resuming from a spell at her previous start with a strong performance in the worst of the ground on the inside when fifth to Dancing Jess at Hawera over 1400m on Slow7. Impressive when winning the Canterbury Breeders Stakes at the corresponding meeting last season, previously she has the right draw and rider to make her presence felt.

5 ALAGANT SATIN – Samantha Spratt
She proved too good after sitting outside the leader at Te Rapa over 1600m on Good2 for this rider at her fourth start back from a spell. She has impressed winning three times over a mile, competing against the best throughout her career. From a handy gate she should receive an economical trip and possesses a strong enough turn of foot to force the issue at best.

13 NOVEMBER RAIN – Michael Walker
She drops to 52.5kg after carrying 58kg when beaten a lip at Ellerslie over 1600m on Good3, after sprinting in the straight from back in the field for a classy win at Taupo over 1400m on Dead4. There should be enough speed in the race to suit her style of racing and she has previously been an impressive winner when booming home from last.
