Selections preview for Te Awamutu and Awapuni
30 Oct 2010 | by Jeff Dore

PREVIEW

SATURDAY October 30 2010 from Te Awamutu and Awapuni

Waipa Racing Club at Te Awamutu
Fine and Good2 (2.0 – 2.2)
Rail: True

Horses previewed in numerical order

Race 5             Rating 70 1400m

2 CITY BLUES – Alvin Ng (2)
He resumed from a spell with a solid performance for third here over 1400m on Dead4 with the same rider aboard. He recorded his Maiden win over 1400m on good footing before proving competitive at times in good fields and with any natural improvement he should be able to figure.

8 ANIMATE – Michael Coleman
After showing good speed to work across from a wide gate and lead she found plenty in the straight to win here fresh-up over 1400m on Dead4 with Coleman aboard. From a handy draw she should not have to do as much early in the race to hold a position and can threaten again on the back of a promising win.

9 LA BELLA – Allan Peard
Following an emphatic trial win over subsequent impressive winner Simply Brilliant on this course she debuted with a win here over 1150m on Dead4 when sustaining a big finish while displaying good attributes in the process. By a sire (Ekraar) whose progeny prefer some give in the ground she has enough good track performers on her dam-side that should allow her to cope with the good ground.

Feilding Jockey Club at Awapuni
Fine and Good3 (2.3 – 2.5)
Rail: True

Race 7             Open Handicap 1400m

2 FRITZY BOY – Lisa Allpress
Freshened since competing in three group one race at Hastings during the Spring Carnival with a third, second and sixth respectively he was second before weakening late for sixth to eventual winner Wall Street in the Spring Classic over 2040m. Aboard in each of his last three starts Lisa Allpress retains the mount and coming back in distance to 1400m should see him prove very competitive.

4 BARINKA – Hayden Tinsley
Off a spell with a strong performance in the worst of the ground on the inside when fifth to Dancing Jess at Hawera over 1400m on Slow7 she should be suitably improved and has an excellent second-up record. Impressive when winning over 1400m in October and November previously she has the right draw and rider to make her presence felt.

10 JACK’S POINT – Darryl Bradley
Courageous to get the bob and score at Trentham last Saturday over 1400m on heavy ground this locally trained horse drops five-kilos in weight but does rise in grade to face his toughest assignment. He proved his mettle two starts ago when forcing the issue against Our Ella Belle at Hastings over 1400m on good footing and should receive a favourable trip from barrier one.
