Masterton RC stakes increase
14 Oct 2010 | ThoroughbredNEWS News Desk

The Masterton Racing Club has announced that the 1000m and 1400m maiden races at their Saturday the 20th of November meeting at Tauherenikau will both be run for a stake of $8,000. The increase is due to sponsorship from Devan Plastics and Masterton’s Tumu Building Centre.
The Club Vice President Richard White said, “The Club recognises the importance of $8,000 races to the industry as they give owners an opportunity to qualify their horses to be sold to Hong Kong. The club is also running a 3yo 1000m Rating 70 event worth $10,500. While it is important that horses be retained for domestic racing, it is equally important that owners have an opportunity to attract a buyer from such a strong market as Hong Kong. Selling a horse to Hong Kong can afford owners to re-invest in the local industry and in many cases at a greater level”.
The Masterton Racing Club previously raced at Tauherenikau in April. The new day is part of a big weekend in the Wairarapa as Toast Martinborough is on the following day. The raceday is already attracting the attention of many local businesses keen to hold a pre Christmas party.
