Selections preview for Matamata and Hawera
09 Oct 2010 | by Jeff Dore

PREVIEW

SATURDAY October 9 2010 from Matamata and Hawera

Racing Matamata at Matamata
Showery and Dead6 (3.3 – 3.5)
Rail: True

Horses previewed in numerical order

Race 9             Rating 80 1600m

1 SO ROYAL – Michael Coleman
Freshened since resuming from a spell with a strong finish at Taupo over 1200m on Slow7, he is a locally trained staying type of horse that won four times through his last campaign, twice in October. A winner of his only start over this distance, he is two from two on dead going and while likely to be further improved by the run he is athletic enough to play a part.

3 PRAIRIE STAR – Matthew Cameron
Talented galloper resuming from spell who has previously impressed winning twice at Te Rapa over 1600m on dead and slow footing. While likely to benefit with the run, she is from a stable that can produce them ready to act and this race appears to be an ideal opportunity.

4 TWOEEZY – Vinny Colgan
Resumed with a solid performance for fourth at Te Aroha over 1500m on Heavy11, he has recorded two of her four wins when second-up from a spell. With all four victories over a mile, two on dead ground, he should give a good account if suitably improved.

Egmont Racing Club at Hawera
Cloudy and Dead5 (2.9 – 3.2)
Rail: True

Race 7             Rating 70 2100m

4 RANGATIRA – Johnathon Parkes
Solid when third to impressive winner King Victory at New Plymouth over 2000m on Heavy11, he had found the line in good style for second to Hot Deputy at Wanganui over 2040m on Heavy10 prior. With wins on both dead and slow footing he should be suited by the conditions on offer and certainly brings sound form.

6 DAN DINERO – Lisa Allpress
Came to the end of his run when finishing fourth at Awapuni over 2300m on very heavy going, after finding the line solidly in tight quarters near the rail behind Affairoftheheart at Hastings over 2000m on Slow8 prior. He sustained a strong run to win his Maiden here over 1400m on Heavy11, at only his second start, while this rider has ridden him in each of four starts.

14 TRICKY – Darryl Bradley
Unable to break through during this campaign, so far, she has registered a hat-trick of seconds recently and five in total through this stint. While a winner on heavy ground, emulating the preference of her dam, she should find enough give in the ground to act and with the right sort run in transit.
