Selections preview for Te Rapa
01 Oct 2010 | by Jeff Dore

PREVIEW

FRIDAY October 1 2010

Waikato Racing Club at Te Rapa
Raining and Slow9 (4.3 – 4.5)
Rail: out 7 metres

Horses previewed in numerical order

Race 3             Rating 90 2000m

3 RARE FOX – Trudy Thornton
Up in grade yet down in weight after finishing fourth to Crocodile Canyon at Hastings over 2000m on Slow8, he was narrowly beaten by Electronic Socks at the most recent meeting here over 1600m on Heavy10. A course winner on good ground in September last year, he generally produces genuine performances on rain-affected footing and fitness should be at peak.

4 THE JUNGLE BOY – Lisa Allpress
He fought hard for third to impressive winner Wotabuzz at Ellerslie over 2100m on Heavy11 last time, after similar performance for third to Five Sails at Tauranga over 2100m on Heavy11. He recorded a course/distance win on Slow8 in August last season, going on to win early in October on slow going. His heavy track stats are solid and he has the services of an inform rider.

9 ROI D’JEU – Jason Collett
Off a 63-day let-up, he loomed to lead before peaking on his run for fifth to Electronic Socks here over 1600m on Heavy10. He recorded two impressive wins prior at Rotorua when sprinting home from well back in the field over 1950m on Slow7, then over 2200m on Dead6 under minimal urging, so 2000m should suit. His dam, Balinchy (Lord Ballina), recorded 11 of her 12 wins on heavy footing, while he has placed in two of his four starts here and has the services on an inform rider.
