Selections preview for Ellerslie and New Plymouth
25 Sep 2010 | by Jeff Dore

PREVIEW

SATURDAY September 25 2010 from Ellerslie and New Plymouth

Auckland Racing Club at Ellerslie
Premier meeting
Overcast and Heavy11 (5.6+)
Rail: True

Horses previewed in numerical order

Race 8             Rating 90 1600m

2 DON DIXIT – Jenny Whiteside (3)
Returned to form with second at the last meeting here over 1600m on Heavy11, same rider, he has recorded all four wins on heavy going, including course/distance win on Heavy11. Carries close to the minimum weight with three-kilo claim in effect and should prove competitive if rider does right thing by him.

3 HURRICANE MICKEY – Michael Coleman
Fought hard for close second to Blackmandu at New Plymouth over 1600m on Heavy11 second-up from let-up. He has recorded four of his six wins on heavy going, five of them at a mile, resumes association with rider and capable of fighting out the finish.

4 SUPERTURF – Masa Tanaka
Sustained a terrific finish in the straight for second to Spare A Fortune when against the bias he came from the rear at Awapuni over 1600m on Heavy11, same rider. Before a notable fourth at Hastings over 1600m on Slow8 he had scored three impressive victories on heavy going, two at a mile and once over 1400m. New to the course, but adept in heavy ground, he appears to have the ability to make his presence felt.

Taranaki Thoroughbred Racing Incorporated at New Plymouth
Raining and Heavy11 (5.6+)
Rail: True

Race 9             Four-Year-Old 1400m

1 GOLDMIST – Keil Collins
Off let-up with strong finish to win at Waverley over 1400m on Heavy10, same rider, he has grown in stature through the winter having won three of his last four starts. A win and third over 1400m from two starts and being unbeaten in both attempts on heavy going should ensure he is competitive.

4 STAINLEY – Rosie Myers
Created good impression winning on debut here over 1400m on Heavy11, he has a change of rider but should lose little with the engagement. He is prepared by an astute horseman, had a chance to freshen and strikes conditions akin to his previous success.

6 HI FLO – Lisa Allpress
Resumed from spell with notable performance for fifth to Tickles at Hastings over 1400m on Slow8. Four starts ago, following a similar let-up she found the line for third on heavy ground at Trentham, then won here on her home track over 1800m on Heavy10. She comes into this race at the bottom of the handicap yet has shown enough ability to suggest she could be competitive in the hands of this rider.
