Winter Cup the Rosehill feature

The Rosehill feature on Saturday, the $150,000, listed Winter Cup (2400m), has a field of 10 after acceptances were take on Wednesday with the Maher and Eustace trained Yogi (NZ) the top-weight with 59kg under Josh Parr.

The eight-year-old Raise The Flag gelding won the listed Sandown Cup over 3200m at Sandown last November and he resumes after an autumn campaign that yielded a Handicap win at Caulfield over 1800m carrying 59.5kg under Craig Williams.

Yogi was last seen when 16th in the Group 1 Sydney Cup over 3200m at Randwick on April 13th. On Saturday Yogi and Parr have barrier four.

The Waterhouse and Bott trained Hush Writer (JPN), the winner of the listed WJ McKell Cup over 2400m on June 1st, is back to attempt to make it two stakes wins in succession.

It was a fine feat by the stable to produce the four-year-old Rulership gelding first up to win the McKell Cup by a short neck over the Waller stable pair of High Bridge (GB) and Girl Tuesday. Carrying 53kg under James Inner Jnr Hush Writer was leading at the 400m and sustained his run through to the line.

On Saturday Hush Writer carries 55.5kg under Tim Clark with barrier seven.

High Bridge, an eight-year-old Monsun gelding, is accepted for another run at Hush Writer with the second place his best result since a win at Warwick Farm over 2200m back in September last year. He carries 53.5kg under apprentice Blaike McDougall with barrier 10.

The Winter Cup is Race 6 at 2.25pm.

The nine race programme commences at 11.30am with a field of nine two-year-old’s in the $125,000, Australian Turf Club Handicap (1100m).

The winning combination of Mark Newnham and Robbie Dolan will be looking to maintain their form from Monday’s Celestial Falls win at Randwick-Kensington with Blazing Miss.

Racing in the same Darby racing silks as Celestial Falls, the Sizzling filly won at Canterbury on June 5th with 56kg with Dolan’s allowance and on Saturday they have 55kg with barrier five.

The Hayes and Dabernig trained Memphis Rock is the top-weight carrying 56kg with apprentice Blaike McDougall’s allowance. The Fastnet Rock colt is stakes and group placed without winning. They have barrier six.

The track is rated a Soft 6 on Wednesday after 6.5mm of rain over the last seven days. The rail is out 6m for the entire circuit.

Rosehill’s weather into the weekend has a medium (50%) chance of showers on Thursday with 0mm-1mm and 21c. Friday is sunny with 21c and Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day and 6c – 19c.
