The Victorian Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board will hear an appeal by trainers Michael Cornish and Donna Gaskin at 9.30am on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 December 2018.
Mr Cornish and Ms Gaskin have lodged an appeal against the decision of the stewards and severity of the penalty imposed when they were found guilty of a charge under AR 178AB which states:
(1) A person must not, without the permission of the Stewards, inject a horse, cause a horse to be injected or attempt to inject a horse, which is engaged to run in any race:
(a) at any time on the day of the scheduled race, prior to the start of such event; and
(b) at any time during the One Clear Day prior to 12.01am on the day of the scheduled race.
The particulars of the charge are summarised as follows:
1. On 8 June 2018, Georgia’s Host was entered to run in Race 1, the Java Spice Thai F&M Maiden Plate over 1200 metres at Swan Hill;
2. Without the permission of the Stewards, the training partnership of Mr Cornish and Ms Gaskin injected Georgia’s Host or caused Georgia’s Host to be injected at some time:
(a) on 8 June 2018, prior to the race; or
(b) during the One Clear Day prior to 12:01am on 8 June 2018.
Mr Cornish and Ms Gaskin were each suspended for a period of two months.
A stay of proceedings was granted.
