Sunday meeting preview

Sunday meeting preview, selections, comments and odds.

A rare eight-race Sunday meeting but a case of quality over quantity for punters with some excellent racing on offer including an interesting Novice event (race 5).

BOY WONDER may carry the equal top-weight but is in best at the race conditions and will certainly have admirers back on his only winning surface with Vlad Duric replacing an apprentice.

Likewise, HYDE PARK will enjoy getting back on the Poly - he won comfortably at his only start on the all-weather track - while IMPERIUM brings strong Novice form in-and-around Zac Kasa to this race and that will hold up in this field.

The wildcard is the Irish-bred 3YO, NOVA VOCAL, who is backing up after a commanding win on debut last Sunday.

Trainer James Peters had no hesitation throwing the Vocalised gelding straight back into the mix and, after drawing gate 1 with just 53kg to carry, he can win again.

Elsewhere on the card, MAXIMUS can continue his outstanding form in Kranji Stakes B Company over the mile in race 6.

The 5YO American-bred gelding is a Poly specialist winning five times from just eight starts on the all-weather track and won too well (again) last start in a similar affair not to think he is the standout.

Best Bets: (MAXIMUS race 6, win), (LIM’S RIPPLE race 2, value) and (LINCOLN ROAD race 7, value).

Bankers for Jackpots: Race 5 (1, 4, 5 and 9), race 6 (1 and 8), race 7 (1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9), race 8 (1, 5 and 7).

Race 1

Most of these Class 5 horses are day-to-day propositions where form means little but BONJOUR BOB has been consistent of late and worth following. He is front-runner who will make his own luck and from gate one over a suitable trip, is the one they will have to run down. Another that will go forward is SUN SEEKER; his only win was before arrival but he has finished in the top four at his past five starts and can benefit from a better gate here. GOLDEN COIN is yet to win but has placed at four of his past five outings in similar company; he drops 1.5kg and gets another chance to break through. The chances don't end there with several others capable of improvement including MAGIC PAINT who will appreciate the step up to 1200m, GENERAL CONATUS who gets Michael Rodd while HEAVENLY HAND had cardiac issues last start but has since trialled and could improve. LET'S TALK NOW has been performing abysmally in class 4 but back in his winning grade could dramatically improve. Betting Strategy - BONJOUR BOB win.

1 GOLDEN COIN *** Yet to win but has placed at four of past five outings in similar company. Drops 1.5kg and gets another chance to break through. 5.00

2 GOOD WARRIOR ** Yet to place in seven outings and did nothing when resuming but could improve for Curatolo from better gate with Class 5 a factor. 25

3 LET'S TALK NOW ** Did nothing in four Class 4 outings but back in winning grade with 4kg claim could improve remarkably. 8.00

4 GENERAL CONATUS ** Best form is over longer but has been racing soundly in this grade and will appreciate Michael Rodd. 8.00

5 HEAVENLY HAND *** Returned with cardiac arrhythmia last start and has trialled solidly since. Previous effort suggests he will work into this late. 8.00

6 GOLD MOSA ** Form terrible but look for improvement with blinkers back on. 33

7 SUN SEEKER *** Only win was before arrival but has finished in top four at past five starts and can benefit from better gate here. Should be on speed throughout. 5.00

8 BONJOUR BOB *** In solid form in this class. From the good gate will be prominent throughout and should be hard to pass. 3.50

9 MAGIC PAINT ** Suited this grade and will appreciate step up to 1200m. Should be running on. 8.00

10 BERLINETTA * Yet to place in 12 starts. Needs to improve. 50

11 RED RACKHAM * Yet to place in 14 starts. Tested. 50

Race 2

A moderate group for a Class 4 over 1600m and LIM'S RIPPLE ticks a few boxes to improve and win this. The 4YO has gets blinkers (tick), Michael Rodd (tick) and gate 2 (tick) in what looks a suitable race. ZAC ACE gets a chance to make amends after running about and costing himself a similar race to this in the stewards room last start; this no harder and he should be hard to hold out. CASING ROYAL has been distanced at his past two starts in higher grade but he will appreciate the poly and 1600m; in much weaker company with John Powell to ride he can be handy throughout. Of the others, PANACHE (Vorster), METTLESOME (Munro) and NOVA CLASSIC (Woodworth) all appreciate senior hoops while GOLD REWARD is suited at the trip and could improve. Betting strategy - LIM'S RIPPLE each-way.

1 CASING ROYAL *** Distanced at past two starts but will appreciate J Powell, the Poly mile and drop in grade. Keep very safe. 5.00

2 LIM'S RIPPLE *** Struggled last start but best form was with blinkers so can win with headgear and M Rodd from gate 2. 8.00

3 NOVA CLASSIC ** Just missed two starts back and fought on last start both efforts being on turf. Awkwardly drawn and steps up in trip and onto poly but gets Benny Woodworth and could show up. 8.00

4 PANACHE *** Battled on last start and only wins have been at this trip. May appreciate senior rider and should be prominent. 5.00

5 ZAC ACE *** Ran about and lost over this trip on turf on protest last start. Gets a chance to make amends. 3.00

6 PEGASUS JUNIOR * Distanced on turf last start. Only win was over 2000m before arrival. Needs to improve. 33

7 GOLD REWARD ** Has only battled since resuming but better suited this distance and can improve for Glen Boss. 16

8 METTLESOME *** Not far away last start and tongue-tie goes back on. Can improve over this trip with Alan Munro to ride. 8.00

9 CHAIRMAN WIND * Struggled last start after Class 5 win on turf over this trip two starts back. Needs easier. 25

10 HERO IN THE WIND * Won Class 5 two starts back but dropped out after leading last start. Will go forward but might need easier. 33

11 RAFALE * Placed three starts back but past two efforts poor and might need easier. 33

Race 3

An interesting Class 3 where the two main chances are Shane Baertschiger stablemates who oddly are both are better on turf. DINGHU MOUNTAIN is resuming; he placed at his only poly run, has a good first-up record and can be prominent for John Powell. I'VE GOT A FEELING has placed at his past two outings in this class and has speed; he would prefer turf but from the good gate should be prominent throughout. BIRAZ is the one with poly form winning in this Class on the poly two starts back when resuming; he rises 3kg on that effort but gets blinkers and should be running on. UNCONQUERED has not been far away at his past two turf outings in this class and has also won on the poly. The field falls away after these but KOLOMBIA has speed and could show up fresh for a new stable while the newcomer BENGAL LANCER won twice in UK and could show up - watch for support. Betting strategy - DINGHU MOUNTAIN can win first-up.

1 DINGHU MOUNTAIN *** Resuming. Better on turf but placed at only poly run and has a good first-up record. Can be prominent for John Powell. 3.00

2 I'VE GOT A FEELING *** Has placed at past two outings in this class and has speed. Would prefer turf but from the good gate should be prominent throughout. 4.00

3 BIRAZ *** Battled away on turf last start but won in this class on Poly at start prior when resuming. Rises 3kg on that effort but gets blinkers and should be running on. 4.00

4 KOLOMBIA * Resuming after a change of stables on the back of some disappointing efforts. Has speed and could show up fresh on back of good trial. 12

5 BENGAL LANCER * Won twice and placed four times from nine starts in UK up to 1400m. Local trial solid. Market best guide. 12

6 UNCONQUERED ** Not far away at past two turf outings in this class and has won on Poly. Each-way. 6.00

7 WIJAYA * Has only battled since Class 4 win and might need easier and turf. 20

8 JACKS SECRET * Struggled in this class over 1100m last start. Blinker pacifiers come off. Well drawn but might need longer. 20

9 HOST THE NATION * Has struggled since Class 4 win five starts back and needs easier. 33

Race 4

Another bottom-of-the barrel Class 5 full of non-winners and one-pacers. RACE FOR FAME has only one placing in 12 starts to his name but made some ground last start and may appreciate this trip; he should have some upside and improve with Vlad Duric to ride. MUSCULAR CAPTAIN was slowly away and ran on late last start; he can improve with a more positive ride. TOOBIGTOFAIL is a one-paced battler in this class but is suited by this distance; blinkers come off and he should be handy throughout. POWERFUL AS WIND led before being run down last start; he can give a sight from the good gate. Of the others DESTINY KNIGHT knows how to win but has a poor poly record while LAM EDITION and even PURE WHITE could be included in exotics for value. Betting strategy - RACE FOR FAME each-way.

1 DESTINY KNIGHT ** Yet to place in six poly outings and struggled at first run since dropping into class 5 but is proven at the trip and this is a weak race. 6.00

2 CROWN DELIGHT * Steps up in trip but yet to place in eight starts. Needs to improve, 33

3 RACE FOR FAME *** Has only one placing in 12 starts but made some ground last start and may appreciate this trip. Could improve with Vlad Duric to ride. 4.00

4 MUSCULAR CAPTAIN *** Slowly away and ran on late last start. Can improve with a more positive ride. 6.00

5 QUEEN OF QUEENS * Yet to place in 10 starts and needs to improve. 50

6 POWERFUL AS WIND *** Led before being run down last start. Can give a sight from the good gate. 4.00

7 KENNEDY * 22 start Maiden who did not show up when resuming. 33

8 TOOBIGTOFAIL *** Battles away in this class and suited this distance. Blinkers come off and should be handy throughout. 4.00

9 GIN GO GIN * Battled on when resuming but yet to place in 14 outings. 33

10 LAM EDITION * Has won once in 45 starts and recent form moderate but could run on in this weak field. 12

11 PURE WHITE ** Having 54th start as a Maiden but could give a sight at odds. 50

Race 5

A Novice of moderate quality but with a number of chances. NOVA VOCAL bolted in at debut last Sunday and looks a horse with a future. This is obviously harder but he gets in well at the race conditions and from the good gate, he should be prominent throughout. BOY WONDER disappointed on turf last start but is also in well at the conditions. He won in Class 4 on the Poly when resuming and has to be respected here with Duric up. Of the rest, ARC TRIUMPH has placed at his past two outings in Class 4 on the poly, IMPERIUM placed in strong Novice company last start and can show up despite the awkward draw while COME AND TAKE ALL, HYDE PARK and SATTAR all have solid form and show up in a competitive race with no real standouts. Betting strategy - NOVA VOCAL win.

1 BOY WONDER *** Disappointed on turf last start after good Class 4 poly win when resuming. In well at the conditions and can win. 3.50

2 ROMAN CLASSIC * Only battled at first Singapore start and should need longer. 33

3 HYDE PARK ** Not in well at the conditions and only struggled last start but bolted in at only Poly start so have to consider. 6.00

4 ARC TRIUMPH *** Placed at past two outings in Class 4 on poly following maiden win. Racing soundly and should be handy throughout. 4.00

5 IMPERIUM *** Placed in strong Novice company last start following maiden win. Awkwardly drawn but should be handy. 10

6 COME AND TAKE ALL ** Caught wide but fought on last start in Class 4 after maiden win. Has trialled since and should be handy throughout. 10

7 SATTAR ** Finally broke through last start and honest enough on the Poly to think he plays a part in this field. 16

8 WEST NORTH HILL * Maiden who placed in Novice four starts back but has struggled since. Blinkers off but needs to improve. 33

9 NOVA VOCAL *** Bolted in at debut and in well at the conditions here. This is harder but from good gate should be prominent throughout. 4.00

10 FIFTH COMMAND FLAG * Did nothing at debut. Tested. 50

Race 6

A Kranji Stakes B where the in-form MAXIMUS is a standout. The 5YO rises 1.5kg on a win in similar company last start but will go forward, make his own luck and be hard to beat again. It is hard to find dangers but the promising YULONG XIONG HU has been racing well since arriving in Singapore; this is harder but he is well drawn and should get a good run throughout. Of the others, JULIUS CAESAR is tested ate trip but gets Vlad Duric while LIM'S SHOT ran on solidly last start in Class 3 and he may appreciate the step up in distance. For the exotics, HIDDEN PROMISE likes this distance, SANDTOP is getting down in the ratings while BILLY BRITAIN looks a good value option back on the Poly. Betting strategy - MAXIMIUS to win.

1 MAXIMUS *** In top form. Rises 1.5kg but should be prominent and will be hard to beat again. 2.00

2 KIRKS RYKER * Has struggled since resuming. Blinkers off but only wins have been on turf and yet to place on poly in five outings. 50

3 LIM'S SHOT ** Ran on solidly last start in Class 3. Stepping up in trip but should be on the speed throughout. 8.00

4 JULIUS CAESAR ** Has battled away at three outings since resuming. Trip may test but enjoys the Poly, gets Vlad Duric and should be prominent. 8.00

5 HIDDEN PROMISE ** In solid form, suited this distance and with 4kg claim can be handy throughout. 14

6 KINGS RYKER * Struggling since Class 4 win and may need that grade. 14

7 SANDTOP ** Not far away last start in similar affair but hasn't won since coming from Macau so exotics best. 14

8 YULONG XIONG HU *** Racing well since arriving in Singapore. This is harder but well drawn and should get a good run throughout. 3.50

9 BILLY BRITAIN ** Suited this trip and always some show on the Poly. Value. 33

Race 7

The best race on the card and expect the best horses to come to the fore. Starting at the top, OLYMPIC ANTHEM showed more than enough resuming from wide gate to think he can win this with a softer run in transit while DISTINCTIVE DARCI got the job done when blinkers were added and Vlad Duric is in good enough form to get the best out of a bad gate. LINCOLN ROAD shares the top weight and the 6YO has an excellent record so could easily win first up after a spell with a nice trial under his belt. Plenty of others that win without surprising including CONSTANT JUSTICE who could be forgiven for a rare poor run last start, the progressive AL GREEN with blinkers added while RAISE NO DOUBT won last start after a change of stables and more than handles this Poly sprint on best form. Betting Strategy - LINCOLN ROAD each-way.

1 OLYMPIC ANTHEM *** Did it tough when resuming and goes close on that effort with more luck in running. 4.00

2 DISTINCTIVE DARCI *** Draw a concern but blinkers did the trick last start and pay to keep following. 3.00

3 LINCOLN ROAD *** Resuming after a poor run of form but trials have been eye-catching and can show up. 8.00

4 SPANISH BAY ** Form only fair of late and yet to win on the Poly but recent trial was good enough to keep safe at long odds. 33

5 CONSTANT JUSTICE *** Coming off a shocker but may pay to forgive as has subsequently trialed well and was in winning form prior. 7.00

6 GRAND CROSS ** Always puts himself in with a chance and in form but wide gate could spell trouble. 12

7 RAISE NO DOUBT *** Won at long odds on the turf after a change of stable last start and has won three times on the Poly so pay to follow. 12

8 FORTUNE WINNER ** Will be running on and has won on the Poly but this should be too short. 20

9 AL GREEN *** Gets blinkers after disappointing run last start and trails suggests he could give this a shake. 20

10 AUTUMN RUSH ** Did it tough enough last start to give the benefit of the doubt and keep safe in exotics with no weight. 12

11 ANONYMOUS ** Tested this Company but showed enough first up to consider at value with no weight. 20

12 DREAM COMES TRUE * Excuses last start but needs much easier. 50

Race 8

Not a lot of winning hopes in the lucky last and MONTAIGNE gets his chance. The 5YO has only won once in Singapore (and once in NZ) but that was in this Company and he showed last start that he wins again sooner than later. He will be hard to hold out but RUM N RAISINS has found form and will test him late. The 7YO has run on very well at his last two starts over 1100m and the step up to 1200m looks ideal. Of the others, SACRED SURFER looks due and has to be considered with V Duric replacing an apprentice, however, the 5YO did fail at his only Poly run which is always a concern. Include LIM'S ELUSIVE, GALILEO'S APPROACH and Q NINE MAGIC in exotics. Betting Strategy - RUM N RAISINS each-way.

1 MONTAIGNE *** Drawn wide (again) but showed last start this Company is his caper and can win. 3.00

2 SMART RACER * Hard to have on what we have seen so far but gets top senior hoop so pay to keep safe. 20

3 LIM'S ELUSIVE ** Returned a roarer last start but usually thereabouts and can consider with tongue-tie off. 8.00

4 Q NINE MILLION ** Nothing last start but won in easier Class 4 Company two back so another to keep safe. 12

5 RUM N RAISINS *** Has put in eye-catching runs at his last two starts and hard to hold out over 1200m. 3.00

6 MINGS MAN * Only battled last start and needs to show more. 33

7 SACRED SURFER *** Always an each way show and this race is weak although failed at only Poly run. 5.00

8 SIGLAP BIRD * Struggles. 50

9 GALILEO'S APPROACH ** Back in trip but can race handy from gate 1 and not without a chance in this field. 8.00
