SOLAR BILLION was then very awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRIUMPHAL WIN as that horse shifted out under pressure. GOLD VELVET, which was racing outside SOLAR BILLION, was further hampered as a consequence.
After the race, J Moreira was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of BIG BULLY as the horse did not close off the race after travelling satisfactorily in the early and middle stages. A veterinary inspection of BIG BULLY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MONEY WINNER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Race:3 (325) CARPENTER HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

At declaration time, C Y Ho was declared as the rider of both WINSTON’S LAD and BRAVE BABY. It was established that C Y Ho had a firm commitment to ride BRAVE BABY. As such, the Stewards permitted H N Wong to be substituted as the rider of WINSTON’S LAD. For this declaration error, C Y Ho was fined $2,000.
SOLAR POWER was slow to begin.
COURAGEOUS DRAGON began awkwardly and then lost ground when crowded for room between XIANG LAN QI and INNER FLAME which shifted in.
In the early stages, PING HAI BRAVO and COOL ACE were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover from the outside barriers.
Making the first turn after the 900 Metres, U W BROTHER got its head on the side and lost ground after being awkwardly placed inside the heels of BRAVE BABY.
At the 450 Metres, COOL ACE was shifted out away from the heels of WONDER BRAHMA (M F Poon) which improved to the outside of INNER FLAME. Passing the 400 Metres, BRAVE BABY was bumped by U W BROTHER as that horse shifted to the outside of MAJESTIC CONQUEROR. HERE COMES TED, which was following U W BROTHER, was shifted to the inside of that horse in consequence.
Also passing the 400 Metres, COOL ACE raced tight outside WONDER BRAHMA which got its head on the side and lay out.
Near the 200 Metres, M F Poon dropped his right rein which then took some time to regather as he changed the whip into his right hand.
Passing the 75 Metres, SOLAR POWER shifted out and raced tight inside COURAGEOUS DRAGON.
COOL ACE raced greenly in the Straight and shifted ground on a number of occasions.
Throughout the race, SPARKLING DOLPHIN travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned, S de Sousa stated that he was asked to obtain a midfield position if possible on SIMPLY FLUKE from a wide barrier. He said SIMPLY FLUKE was standing awkwardly prior to the start being effected and then as the gates opened got its head back, resulting in the horse beginning very awkwardly and his right foot slipping back in the iron which placed him at an immediate disadvantage. He said he transferred his body weight to the left in the early stages in an attempt to have his right foot positioned correctly in the iron, however, he was not able to do so and whilst this occurred SIMPLY FLUKE lost ground and consequently settled further back in the field than had been intended. He said he followed COURAGEOUS DRAGON in the middle stages and on straightening shifted SIMPLY FLUKE to the outside of that horse and he commenced to ride SIMPLY FLUKE out as best as he was able with his right foot still not properly positioned in the iron. He added over the final 200 Metres SIMPLY FLUKE lay in under pressure whilst finishing off the race well.
After the race, C Y Ho (BRAVE BABY) stated that at its first up run for the season the horse’s condition gave out in the early part of the Straight after racing up on the speed in the early and middle stages. He said although BRAVE BABY gave ground over the latter stages of the race, he believed that this was due to fitness issues rather than any problem experienced by the horse. A veterinary inspection of BRAVE BABY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SPARKLING DOLPHIN immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPARKLING DOLPHIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
INNER FLAME and PING HAI BRAVO were sent for sampling.

A veterinary inspection of VICTORY MASTERY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of VICTORY MASTERY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, VICTORY MASTERY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding his riding of ALL YOU KNOW in the Home Straight, A Badel stated that although he was able to test ALL YOU KNOW at its previous start, he had some reservations regarding the action of the horse as ALL YOU KNOW did not let down as he anticipated it would after obtaining a good run in the race. He said in today’s race he shifted ALL YOU KNOW across behind runners from the wide barrier and was able to follow BEST ALLIANCE and race outside the eventual winner THIS ONE’S FOR YOU. He said when travelling on the bridle ALL YOU KNOW raced comfortably, however, after being asked for an effort after the 600 Metres to maintain its position behind BEST ALLIANCE, ALL YOU KNOW immediately came off the bridle and both BEST ALLIANCE and THIS ONE’S FOR YOU were able to draw an immediate margin on ALL YOU KNOW. He added rounding the Home Turn when under pressure ALL YOU KNOW’s action deteriorated significantly and the horse, in his opinion, felt stiff in front. He said as he was very concerned with the action of ALL YOU KNOW, a horse which is well-known to him, he did not test it in the Straight and held the horse together in case it was experiencing any issues. A veterinary inspection of ALL YOU KNOW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. In the circumstances, the Stewards ruled that ALL YOU KNOW will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
A veterinary inspection of BEST ALLIANCE, ROMAN IMPERO and LASTING FRIENDSHIP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GOLDIE FLANKER immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left hind leg, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDIE FLANKER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
BEST ALLIANCE, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU and DRAGON COMMANDER were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (327) NGA TSIN WAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

WHISKEY NEAT and FORZA ANGEL bumped at the start.
INFINITY ENDEAVOUR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HONEST WAY.

As the start was effected, FLYING ON THE TURF kicked out behind.
From the outside barriers, JADE THEATRE, CALIFORNIA ARGENT and FARHH ABOVE were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
When being steadied to obtain cover shortly after the start, WHISKEY NEAT got its head up and then became unbalanced passing the 1100 Metres when bumped by FORZA ANGEL which shifted in away from the heels of TAKE WHAT YOU NEED. This resulted in WHISKEY NEAT being steadied away from the heels of HONEST WAY.
Approaching the 900 Metres, FORZA ANGEL shifted out away from the heels of TAKE WHAT YOU NEED which resulted in BALTIC SUCCESS shifting out away from that horse in consequence and causing inconvenience to WHISKEY NEAT and CALIFORNIA ARGENT which was travelling keenly. For some distance after this, CALIFORNIA ARGENT continued to travel keenly. After this, FORZA ANGEL was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 800 Metres, HARD PROMISE got its head up when momentarily awkwardly placed behind FLYING ON THE TURF. Then approaching the 700 Metres, HARD PROMISE, which was travelling keenly, continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING ON THE TURF.

After the 200 Metres, JADE THEATRE was checked in away from the heels of FORZA ANGEL which was giving ground.
Approaching the 100 Metres, WHISKEY NEAT was bumped by BALTIC SUCCESS which shifted out when awkwardly placed behind TAKE WHAT YOU NEED.
When questioned, G van Niekerk stated that it was intended for BALTIC SUCCESS to be ridden in the lead as the horse had raced well in that position at its most recent start. He said BALTIC SUCCESS was somewhat fractious in the barriers and then did not begin well. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages to make up lost ground, however, after travelling a short distance had to steady away from the heels of GLENEALY GENERALS and because of this it was no longer available to him to continue to ride BALTIC SUCCESS forward in an attempt to lead. He said he therefore steadied BALTIC SUCCESS near the 1100 Metres to obtain cover which he was able to achieve behind FORZA ANGEL near the 900 Metres after having to shift out away from the heels of that horse. He added when racing behind FORZA ANGEL, BALTIC SUCCESS travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse for some distance in the middle stages.
FARHH ABOVE and TAKE WHAT YOU NEED were sent for sampling.

After racing in restricted room, CASIMIRO was checked between KING’S RACE which was straightened by its rider and SUNSHINE WARRIOR (T Piccone) which shifted in. Having considered the circumstances of the incident, both C Y Ho and T Piccone were severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances they would be expected to do more than they did on this occasion to prevent their mounts from shifting ground.
Passing the 300 Metres, FANTASTIC BOY got its head on the side and lay in towards the heels of BEST FOR YOU. When directed out away from the heels of BEST FOR YOU, FANTASTIC BOY then shifted out away from BEST FOR YOU, resulting in LEADING FORTUNE being taken out across the running of SPEEDY DRAGON which was steadied. After this, FANTASTIC BOY continued to lay out under pressure. SPEEDY DRAGON subsequently had some difficulty obtaining clear running and approaching the 200 Metres was directed to the outside of LEADING FORTUNE to improve.
Near the 50 Metres, KING’S RACE shifted out and bumped SUNSHINE WARRIOR.
Close to the finishing line, MY WINNER’s racing room commenced to be restricted between KING’S RACE and SAM’S LOVE which shifted out.

From wide barriers, SHADOW BREAKER, XPONENTIAL, SPLENDID TIMING and WILLFUL were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, KING’S TROOPER improved to be racing close to the heels of TRIPLE TRIPLE, resulting in KING’S TROOPER being awkwardly placed behind that horse and shifting in which caused inconvenience to GOLDEN FOUR and JUNZI.

After the 1000 Metres, XPONENTIAL shifted out away from the heels of BABY STORM and bumped SPLENDID TIMING. After this, XPONENTIAL and SPLENDID TIMING raced tight.
After the 900 Metres, CIRCUIT HASSLER was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 350 Metres, XPONENTIAL was disappointed for running between SPLENDID TIMING and BABY STORM which got its head on the side and shifted out marginally away from JUNZI. In this incident, SPLENDID TIMING became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by XPONENTIAL. As the Stewards were satisfied that XPONENTIAL had not established running to the outside of BABY STORM, no further action was taken. After this, BABY STORM was shifted out away from the heels of SHADOW BREAKER to obtain clear running.
Near the 50 Metres, the whip of S de Sousa (SPRINT FORWARD) was knocked from this grasp by the whip of B Shinn (GOLDEN FOUR).
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of XPONENTIAL, K Teetan stated that in the early stages he shifted his mount across behind runners from the wide barrier as instructed. He said XPONENTIAL travelled well, however, after becoming unbalanced when racing tight with SPLENDID TIMING near the 900 Metres, the horse did not travel comfortably in the middle stages. He said as he was instructed to shift his mount to the outside in the Straight to obtain clear running, he attempted to improve to the outside of BABY STORM at the entrance to the Straight, however, was required to alter course to the inside of that horse when unable to improve between BABY STORM and SPLENDID TIMING. He added after shifting to the inside of BABY STORM, he was able to obtain clear running, however, XPONENTIAL did not quicken and finished off the race only one-paced. He said although XPONENTIAL was disappointing, he believed that there were circumstances which might account for the horse’s failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of XPONENTIAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of XPONENTIAL, favourite for today’s race and a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, XPONENTIAL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on KING’S TROOPER at the request of Trainer P F Yiu. Rounding the Home Turn, ENFOLDING got its head on the side and lay in.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LAST KINGDOM, L Hewitson stated that the circumstances of the race were significantly different from its last start when the horse was successful. He said, in his opinion, LAST KINGDOM appreciated the wet slow track condition last start and was also favoured by having an uncontested lead. He said the connections of LAST KINGDOM had some concerns regarding the horse having to back up as quickly as it did after its last start success, but the programme was such that it was decided to run LAST KINGDOM in this race. He said LAST KINGDOM was more relaxed in today’s race than it was at its last start which indicated to him that today’s race may have come too soon. He said although LAST KINGDOM was not able to obtain an uncontested lead due to ENDEARING crossing his mount after the 1100 Metres, the horse still travelled satisfactorily in the middle stages. He added after being shifted to the outside of ENDEARING approaching the 600 Metres, his mount lay in rounding the Home Turn and then gave ground quickly in the early part of the Straight to finish at the rear of the field. A veterinary inspection of LAST KINGDOM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LAST KINGDOM, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. S de Sousa was told that whilst there were circumstances to this incident, he must ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground.
Passing the 500 Metres, AWE was crowded for room between ULTIMATE GLORY and HORSESAIN BOLT (K Teetan) which shifted out before being directed back in to relieve the tightening to AWE. K Teetan was severely reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to exercise more care when shifting ground than he did on this occasion.
PERFECT PAIR was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 350 Metres was shifted in when unable to improve between CRAIG’S STAR and WIND N GRASS. PERFECT PAIR continued to be held up for clear running and near the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of CRAIG’S STAR into a tight run. PERFECT PAIR consequently raced in restricted room inside that horse when improving into tight running.
Immediately after the race, the Stewards considered whether the inquiry signal should be displayed in respect of an incident near the 100 Metres involving MONEY BACK, 2nd placegetter, and the winner SUPER STAR. The Stewards elected not to notify an inquiry when it was evident that at the time MONEY BACK was directed to the outside of SUPER STAR which shifted in marginally, there was still running available for MONEY BACK to the inside of that horse. Prior to the declaration of weighed-in, Mr P O’Sullivan, the trainer of MONEY BACK, and T H So, the rider of that horse, viewed the videos of this incident and elected not to enter a protest/objection on behalf of the connections of MONEY BACK. When subsequently questioned, T H So stated that as SUPER STAR was shifting in, he anticipated that that horse would continue to shift ground and as he did not want MONEY BACK’s momentum to be halted, he decided to shift to the outside of that horse. He said as he was shifting to the outside of SUPER STAR, that horse straightened, however, at this stage he had already committed to alter course to the outside of that horse. The Stewards accepted Jockey So’s explanation.
When questioned regarding the performance of BE READY, J Moreira stated that his mount enjoyed a comfortable run behind a good speed. He said he shifted BE READY to the outside of WIND N GRASS at the 500 Metres and the horse initially quickened satisfactorily for him. He said passing the 300 Metres BE READY got its head on the side and commenced to lay in and for this reason he changed the whip over into his right hand. He said BE READY continued to lay in and near the 200 Metres he became concerned that BE READY was not closing off the race as strongly as he anticipated. He added near the 150 Metres he had to correct BE READY as that horse continue to lay in and it was at this time that BE READY commenced to give ground noticeably. He said BE READY’S final 200 Metres was particularly disappointing, however, he was unable to offer a reason for the horse’s disappointing run. A veterinary inspection of BE READY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of KUNG FU FIGHTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Over the concluding stages, NICCONI EXPRESS lay in towards the heels of COLUMBUS COUNTY and consequently was not able to be fully tested.
When questioned regarding the performance of PRIVATE SECRETARY, T Piccone stated that after travelling keenly when being steadied to allow CORDYCEPS to cross after the 1100 Metres, PRIVATE SECRETARY then travelled well. He said he shifted his mount to the outside of CORDYCEPS at the entrance to the Straight and anticipated that the horse would close off strongly, however, PRIVATE SECRETARY immediately came under heavy pressure. He said after PRIVATE SECRETARY became unbalanced when struck on the heels by COLUMBUS COUNTY near the 300 Metres, the horse gave ground and failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of PRIVATE SECRETARY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
