In addition, Apprentice Mo was fined $10,000.
At the entrance to the Straight, ROCHFORD was bumped by COUR VALANT which shifted to the outside of GOBI STORM to obtain clear running.
G van Niekerk (PADDINGTON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 350 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of GOBI STORM, resulting in that horse being bumped and taken out onto COUR VALANT which in turn was hampered and taken out across the rightful running of ROCHFORD which was badly checked as a result of the shift from the inside. G Van Niekerk was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 24 February 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 28 February 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). CRAIG’S STAR was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, CRAIG’S STAR was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, CRAIG’S STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
CIRCUIT THREE was slow to begin.

Race:3 (407) DAFFODIL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 2000 m

On arrival at the barriers, Z Purton expressed concern regarding the action of TIGRE DU TERRE. Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, when trotting the horse down to the Start, TIGRE DU TERRE did not feel comfortable in its left front leg although when the horse was trotted up behind the barriers, there was not any noticeable lameness. He said he had previously ridden TIGRE DU TERRE in a barrier trial and the horse today did not feel comfortable in comparison to that occasion. The Veterinary Officer reported that he was not able to detect any significant abnormalities with TIGRE DU TERRE. As Z Purton was not comfortable to ride TIGRE DU TERRE, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, TIGRE DU TERRE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HEAVENLY THOUGHT stood flat-footed as the start was effected and consequently was slow to begin. Before being allowed to race again, HEAVENLY THOUGHT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
SAVVY SIX began awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in PACKING WARRIOR being crowded for room.
GRAND CHANCELLOR got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover.
Passing the 500 Metres, GIANT TURTLE was taken out by SAVVY SIX which shifted out to improve.
Close to the finishing line, ENRICHMENT shifted out abruptly.
A Sanna (SAVVY SIX) was warned against the practice of repeatedly hitting his mounts down the shoulder with the whip. He was told that as the Stewards had previously spoken to him about this matter, it may be that further action would be taken if he offends again in the future.
When questioned, S de Sousa (PACKING WARRIOR) stated that after obtaining a position outside the early leader CHARITY GO passing the winning post on the first occasion, he was comfortable for PACKING WARRIOR to race in this position. He said however that with the blinkers on for the first time, PACKING WARRIOR commenced to prove very difficult to settle passing the 1700 Metres and, despite his best efforts to steady the horse, it proved increasingly difficult to restrain. He said after the 1600 Metres he had no option but to allow PACKING WARRIOR to stride into the lead whilst shifting his mount out away from CHARITY GO in an attempt to have it settle better. He added once PACKING WARRIOR cleared CHARITY GO and was shifted in to race on the rail near the 1200 Metres, the horse then settled better. He said however that PACKING WARRIOR came under heavy pressure in the early part of the Straight and then did not finish off the race due to the manner in which it over-raced in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of PACKING WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ENRICHMENT and SAVVY SIX were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (408) DAISY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

ALL YOU NEED was withdrawn on 9.2.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen left hind cannon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CHARITYDREAM (K C Leung). Before being allowed to race again, ALL YOU NEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
CHARITYDREAM was slow to begin.
ALCAZAR began only fairly.
GENEROUS HEART shifted out at the start and bumped MASSIVE MILLENNIUM.
From a wide barrier, DR RACE was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, BOND ELEGANCE failed to muster speed and shortly after the start was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

Near the 650 Metres, EVER STRONG was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of ALCAZAR.
After being shifted to the outside of runners rounding the Home Turn, BOND ELEGANCE then commenced to lay in and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EVER STRONG which was taken out by GENEROUS HEART. BOND ELEGANCE was then shifted to the inside of EVER STRONG near the 300 Metres when that horse was bumped by GENEROUS HEART.
At the entrance to the Straight, DR PROACTIVE raced tight outside MR RIGHT which was laying out.
After the race, J Moreira expressed concern regarding the action of BOND ELEGANCE. A veterinary inspection of BOND ELEGANCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of CHARITYDREAM immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of CHARITYDREAM, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHARITYDREAM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HINYUEN SWIFTNESS, which was fractious in the barriers, lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and began awkwardly. HINYUEN SWIFTNESS then shifted out, resulting in CHIU CHOW KID losing ground when crowded for room inside EMPIRE STAR which shifted in. In this incident, EMPIRE STAR became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by CHIU CHOW KID.
HAY RUN and FLASH FAMOUS bumped at the start.

After the 400 Metres, CHIU CHOW KID was checked when disappointed for running between SUNNY POWER which shifted out marginally and FLASH FAMOUS which shifted in after receiving contact on the hindquarters from CHIU CHOW KID. As the Stewards were satisfied that CHIU CHOW KID had not established running between SUNNY POWER and FLASH FAMOUS, no further action was taken.
For the majority of the Straight, WINWIN RUBY raced in restricted room inside HINYUEN SWIFTNESS.
A veterinary inspection of DATING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ROMANTIC CHEF, CHIU CHOW KID and FLASH FAMOUS were sent for sampling.

From wide barriers, CHARIZARD and FRESH POWER were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, CHARIZARD was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of GUY DRAGON when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse.
After the 1100 Metres, GUY DRAGON commenced to travel keenly and was steadied away from the heels of SUPER STAR.
Approaching the 900 Metres, SUPER STAR shifted in away from the heels of MURRAY’S PARTNERS and bumped the hindquarters of FORTUNATE RUNNER.
Approaching the 400 Metres, GUY DRAGON shifted out abruptly when momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of FRESH POWER.
Shortly after entering the Straight, FORTUNATE RUNNER was shifted to the inside of COOLCELEB to obtain clear running.
Near the 250 Metres, FORTUNATE RUNNER lay out and raced tight inside COOLCELEB. After this, FORTUNATE RUNNER continued to lay out and near the 100 Metres bumped COOLCELEB which consequently shifted out.
Throughout the race, CALLING THE SHOTS travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, D Whyte was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of MURRAY’S PARTNERS. He said the horse travelled very well but when placed under pressure in the Straight did not quicken and gave ground after the 300 Metres. He said he had ridden MURRAY’S PARTNERS in track work in the lead up to today’s race and described that work as very good. He said based on the manner in which MURRAY’S PARTNERS had worked, it was anticipated that the horse would perform very well in today’s race. A veterinary inspection of MURRAY’S PARTNERS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of FRESH POWER and MONICA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUPER STAR and DIAMOND LEGEND were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (411) THE HEUNG YEE KUK CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 2 1200 m

LEAN PERFECTION began only fairly.
Shortly after the start, SHANGHAI MASTER raced tight between HINCHINLOVE and STORM SIGNAL which shifted in. After this, SHANGHAI MASTER was shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 700 Metres, LEAN PERFECTION commenced to travel very keenly and raced close to the heels of RAGING BLITZKRIEG which became unbalanced and shifted out, causing HINCHINLOVE, which was racing wide and without cover after the 1000 Metres, to be taken wider still. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that RAGING BLITZKRIEG had sustained a small laceration below the right hock.
Approaching the 500 Metres, SHANGHAI MASTER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAPPY FAMILY when attempting to improve into tight running between that horse and KING OF HEARTS.
Near the 450 Metres, LEAN PERFECTION and HINCHINLOVE bumped, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
J Moreira (RAGING BLITZKRIEG) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 250 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in, resulting in STORM SIGNAL being hampered and taken in across the rightful running of SAUL’S SPECIAL which was checked. J Moreira was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 6 March 2019 and to expire on Monday, 11 March 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, J Moreira was fined $60,000.
Over the final 150 Metres, MY DARLING and LEAN PERFECTION (A Badel) raced tight. This resulted in A Badel’s use of the whip being restricted over the latter stages of the race.
When questioned, U Rispoli stated that he rode NEW ASIA SUNRISE along approaching the 1000 Metres to ensure that it was able to take a trailing position behind the favourite RAGING BLITZKRIEG. He said despite this LEAN PERFECTION, which was racing to the inside of NEW ASIA SUNRISE and which was travelling strongly, was able to shift to the outside of MY DARLING and in doing so bumped NEW ASIA SUNRISE. He said rather than ride his mount along in an attempt to re-establish its position which he did not believe he would be able to achieve, he then elected to obtain a trailing position behind LEAN PERFECTION rather than have NEW ASIA SUNRISE being bumped and having to race wide.
A veterinary inspection of SAUL’S SPECIAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RAGING BLITZKRIEG, LEAN PERFECTION and MY DARLING were sent for sampling.

Passing the 300 Metres, SEVEN HEAVENS raced tight outside UTOPIA LIFE which shifted out under pressure.
When questioned regarding the performance of SPECIAL STARS, J Moreira stated that he was not able to offer any explanation for its poor run. He said SPECIAL STARS was able to take up a forward position as it did at its most recent start when successful. He said although SPECIAL STARS was racing at Sha Tin for the first time today, the horse travelled very well in the early and middle stages and even passing the 300 Metres he felt that it was travelling well enough to finish off the race. He added however that at the 250 Metres SPECIAL STARS came under pressure and then over the concluding stages was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to close off the race. A veterinary inspection of SPECIAL STARS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of PRINCE HARMONY and CALIFORNIA GUNGHO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SPECIAL STARS, I AM POWER and SEVEN HEAVENS were sent for sampling.

When questioned regarding the performance of BOMBAY BLITZ, Z Purton stated that the horse travelled well in the early and middle stages and after being shifted to the outside of HIGH VOLATILITY rounding the Home Turn, he expected the horse to finish off the race strongly. He said BOMBAY BLITZ did not quicken as he thought it would and then after the 300 Metres shifted ground on a number of occasions and felt uncomfortable in its action. He said bearing in mind the manner in which BOMBAY BLITZ shifted ground, he eased it down over the concluding stages as he felt that something may have gone amiss with the horse. He added, after the race, whilst BOMBAY BLITZ did not feel sore, nonetheless it was not comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of BOMBAY BLITZ immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of BOMBAY BLITZ was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BOMBAY BLITZ will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
