HONG KONG’S FOLKS was withdrawn on 5.1.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inflamed right fore suspensory branch) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ENJOYABLE SUCCESS (J Moreira). Before being allowed to race again, HONG KONG’S FOLKS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

TRIUMPHANT LIGHT shifted in at the start and bumped BONITO.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages from a wide barrier, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS failed to muster speed and shortly after the start was shifted across behind runners.
When being steadied to obtain cover behind TRIUMPHANT LIGHT, THE HAPPY BUNCH travelled keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions passing the 1100 Metres.
Shortly after the 400 Metres, THE FULL BLOOM was shifted to the inside of BEST GIFT and then after being held up for clear running raced in restricted room between that horse and GOBI STORM when improving into a tight run between those horses. In this incident, GOBI STORM became unbalanced on two occasions when bumped by THE FULL BLOOM. THE FULL BLOOM continued to race tight inside BEST GIFT until passing the 200 Metres.
Near the 350 Metres, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was shifted in away from the heels of THE HAPPY BUNCH. Then passing the 300 Metres, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was shifted to the inside of STARLOT which shifted out. ENJOYABLE SUCCESS was then unable to obtain clear running for the remainder of the race and consequently was not able to be tested.
Also near the 350 Metres, GREAT SON was checked when crowded for room between DRAGON WARRIOR (D Whyte) which was racing tight inside SAVVY SEVEN and BEST GIFT (C Y Ho) which shifted out under pressure. C Y Ho was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. In this incident, D Whyte momentarily stopped riding DRAGON WARRIOR to alleviate the tightening to GREAT SON when continuing to race in restricted room inside the heels of SAVVY SEVEN. THE HAPPY BUNCH, which was following GREAT SON, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence.

Throughout the race, DRAGON WARRIOR travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of ENJOYABLE SUCCESS and AMBITIOUS SPEEDY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of THE HAPPY BUNCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
THE FULL BLOOM and TRIUMPHANT LIGHT were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (314) THE BAUHINIA SPRINT TROPHY (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Group Three 1000 m

STYLING CITY and FABULOUS ONE bumped at the start.
Approaching the 300 Metres, WISHFUL THINKER was steadied when disappointed for running to the outside of IVICTORY which shifted out marginally. WISHFUL THINKER was then badly held up for clear running until approaching the 100 Metres at which time the horse shifted in and bumped FABULOUS ONE.
Approaching the 200 Metres, JOLLY BANNER (M F Poon) improved quickly to be racing close to the heels of JUMBO LUCK. Then at the 200 Metres, JOLLY BANNER shifted in away from the heels of JUMBO LUCK and bumped STYLING CITY, resulting in both horses and in particular JOLLY BANNER becoming unbalanced. M F Poon was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, primarily the manner in which JOLLY BANNER improved quickly to be racing close to the heels of JUMBO LUCK, nonetheless in similar circumstances he was advised to exercise more care so as not to place undue pressure on other runners.
After the race, J Moreira stated that IVICTORY was again disappointing in today’s race as the horse did not finish off as expected. A veterinary inspection of IVICTORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of JOLLY BANNER, Trainer P F Yiu stated that he had been disappointed with the horse’s recent starts. He said because of this he elected to drop JOLLY BANNER back in distance to 1000 Metres of today’s race with the conditions resulting in JOLLY BANNER carrying a very light weight. He said with the light weight he anticipated that the horse may be able to finish off the race, however, he did not expect that it would be successful in today’s race given its recent form.
A veterinary inspection of JUMBO LUCK immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
IVICTORY, JOLLY BANNER and STYLING CITY were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (315) SA PO HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

After the race, M F Poon was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of HAVE FUN TOGETHER which he said came under heavy pressure at the 600 Metres, lay out making the turns and then gave ground in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of HAVE FUN TOGETHER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
JOYFUL CONTENDER, EVER STRONG and BORNTOACHIEVE were sent for sampling.

Passing the 100 Metres, TOP LAURELS was struck over the nose by the whip of M L Yeung (MONGOLIAN LEGEND).
For the majority of the race, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
A veterinary inspection of TANG FLEMING and ELECTRIC LIGHTNING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, both horses were unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
TOP LAURELS, MONGOLIAN LEGEND and RIGHT HONOURABLE were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (317) THE LOK SIN TONG CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

KA YING BRILLIANCE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of HURRICANE HUNTER which in turn shifted in and crowded the room of FLASH FAMOUS.
THE CREATETH began very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CASHIN MINISTER. Then after this, despite being ridden along for some distance, THE CREATETH failed to muster speed.
Shortly after the start, A Sanna (SOCCER MASTER) adjusted his left foot in the iron.
From the outside barrier, GOLDEN FOUR was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
From a wide barrier, MEGATRON was ridden along in the early stages, however, after failing to muster speed was steadied and shifted across behind runners after the 1200 Metres to obtain cover.
Near the 1100 Metres, N Callan (INTREPIC) adjusted his left foot in the iron.
Making the first turn near the 900 Metres, INTRERIC got its head on the side, lay out and bumped TOUCH OF LUCK.
Passing the 600 Metres, CASHIN MINISTER commenced to travel keenly was steadied away from the heels of ROYAL RACER. After this, CASHIN MINISTER was shifted to the outside of ROYAL RACER near the 500 Metres and when shifted out to a position behind SOCCER MASTER clipped the heels of that horse and blundered badly near the 450 Metres as SOCCER MASTER gave ground abruptly. In this incident, CASHIN MINISTER shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MEGATRON which became badly unbalanced and was taken wider. THE CREATETH, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. After this, SOCCER MASTER continued to give ground abruptly and finished tailed off. The performance of SOCCER MASTER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOCCER MASTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Approaching the 400 Metres, HURRICANE HUNTER was shifted in away from the heels of TOUCH OF LUCK. HURRICANE HUNTER was then shifted in further away from the heels of INTREPIC approaching the 350 Metres when badly held up for clear running. HURRICANE HUNTER was checked away from the heels of LEISURED FEET approaching the 300 Metres as that horse commenced to give ground and was consequently shifted to the outside of LEISURED FEET to obtain clear running at the 300 Metres.
Passing the 350 Metres, KA YING BRILLIANCE raced tight inside the hindquarters of LEISURED FEET.
FLASH FAMOUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KA YING BRILLIANCE passing the 300 Metres.
FLASH FAMOUS had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200 Metres and then over the final 50 Metres was held up for clear running and consequently was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race.
Close to the finishing line, THE CREATETH shifted in and bumped HURRICANE HUNTER and consequently was not ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Throughout the race, SOCCER MASTER travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that incidents occurred near the 150 Metres and again close to the finishing line which cast doubt as to whether GOLDEN FOUR should be declared the winner. It was established that near the 150 Metres GOLDEN FOUR and ROYAL RACER (G van Niekerk) bumped as a result of both horses shifting ground. It was further found that close to the finishing line GOLDEN FOUR shifted out to relieve the tightening to ALPHA HEDGE on its inside and in doing so bumped ROYAL RACER, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. In respect of the incident near the 150 Metres, the Stewards were satisfied that the contact occurred as a result of both horses shifting ground and therefore that matter was not pursued. The Stewards found that whilst GOLDEN FOUR did shift out close to the finishing line, at this time the horse had already established a margin over ROYAL RACER and given the head margin between the horses and the proximity of the contact to the winning post, this matter was also not pursued. Whilst it did not have any bearing on the Stewards’ decision, G van Niekerk did not lodge a formal protest/objection on behalf of the second placegetter ROYAL RACER. Accordingly, weighed in was notified on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.
When questioned regarding his riding of LEISURED FEET, H N Wong stated that from a wide barrier he was asked to obtain a forward position on LEISURED FEET. He said after having to ride his mount along to cross MEGATRON on its inside, he did not have to make use of LEISURED FEET to then cross the remainder of the field and was able to shift in beside the leader SUPREME WITNESS near the 1100 Metres without having to ride his mount along to do so. He said after shifting in to race outside SUPREME WITNESS, LEISURED FEET commenced to travel keenly and he was not able to steady the horse such that it would be positioned slightly behind SUPREME WITNESS. He said as he restrained LEISURED FEET on a number of occasions after the 1000 Metres, the horse got its head up and shifted ground and making the turn near the 900 Metres shifted in and bumped SUPREME WITNESS, causing both horses to become unbalanced. He added LEISURED FEET then commenced to travel more keenly and it was not available to him then to steady the horse back off SUPREME WITNESS. He said as LEISURED FEET was travelling keenly when racing on terms with SUPREME WITNESS, he allowed his mount to improve its position slightly in advance of that horse in the hope that LEISURED FEET would relax and travel more comfortably. H N Wong was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, in similar circumstances he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to have his mounts travel such that they are able to finish off the race as best as they can in the circumstances.
When questioned regarding the performance of TOUCH OF LUCK, C Y Ho stated that it was intended for TOUCH OF LUCK to obtain a midfield position. He said when wearing blinkers for the first time today TOUCH OF LUCK began well and he felt that he would have had to unnecessarily restrain his mount in an endeavour to obtain a position as instructed. He said therefore he allowed his mount to improve its position in the early stages and after the 1100 Metres was able to obtain a trailing position behind LEISURED FEET. He said TOUCH OF LUCK travelled very well with the blinkers on for the first time and relaxed throughout the middle stages. He added however that after shifting TOUCH OF LUCK to the outside of runners after the 500 Metres, his mount immediately came under pressure and was then disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of TOUCH OF LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of CASHIN MINISTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HURRICANE HUNTER, GOLDEN FOUR and ROYAL RACER were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (318) SA PO HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

After being loaded, TRAVEL SUCCESSOR got down in the barriers and then proceeded to get out under the front gates riderless. TRAVEL SUCCESSOR was able to be quickly captured. Acting on veterinary advice that TRAVEL SUCCESSOR was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, TRAVEL SUCCESSOR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
DEAL MAKER began very awkwardly and lost ground.
GIFT OF LIFELINE stumbled at the start, shifted out and made heavy contact with SUPER LEADER, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
REAL GIANT began only fairly.
From wide barriers, MICKEY RICH and DR RACE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the turn near the 700 Metres, BOND ELEGANCE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of HAPPY HAPPY STAR when being steadied to obtain a position with cover behind that horse.
In the early part of the Straight, DEAL MAKER was directed out abruptly to the outside of DR RACE to obtain clear running.
Throughout the race, HAPPY HAPPY STAR travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, K Teetan (STAR SUPERIOR) stated that he was asked to utilize the horse’s inside barrier and have the horse in a more forward position than was the case when it drew a wider barrier at its last start when successful. He said it was felt that the principal chances in the race would obtain a forward position and it would be in the best interests of STAR SUPERIOR if the horse did not have to give away too much ground. He said after riding his mount positively in the early stages, he then steadied STAR SUPERIOR in order to obtain cover behind WINNING SUPREME. He said he felt that GOLDEN EFFORT would show more speed than it did today and he may obtain a trailing position behind that horse which would have resulted in STAR SUPERIOR racing in about a midfield position. He said however when GOLDEN EFFORT did not show as much pace in the early stages, this resulted in STAR SUPERIOR racing behind the eventual winner WINNING SUPREME and in a more forward position than had been anticipated.
When questioned regarding the performance of SUPER LEADER, Z Purton stated that, in his opinion, the horse was somewhat disappointing in today’s race. He said after travelling keenly in the middle stages and getting its head up when awkwardly placed behind GOLDEN EFFORT after the 700 Metres, SUPER LEADER travelled satisfactorily, however, he was unable to prevent BOND ELEGANCE from improving its position around SUPER LEADER rounding the Home Turn. He said SUPER LEADER had some difficulty obtaining clear running behind BOND ELEGANCE and HAPPY HAPPY STAR in the Straight which resulted in him having to momentarily steady SUPER LEADER near the 200 Metres. He said, in his opinion, SUPER LEADER was not travelling well enough to improve its position at this time such that the horse was a realistic chance of placing in the race. He added after the race he recommended to connections that they consider removing the blinkers from SUPER LEADER and stepping the horse up in distance to see if it would relax better which would allow it the opportunity to close off the race stronger than it did today. A veterinary inspection of SUPER LEADER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN EFFORT immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, GOLDEN EFFORT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUPER LEADER, WINNING SUPREME and MICKEY RICH were sent for sampling.

When being steadied to obtain cover, INVESTOR BOOM got its head up on a number of occasions shortly after the start.
After being hard ridden for a considerable distance in the early stages, PO CHING TREASURE got its head on the side at the 1600 Metres, shifted in away from BRING IT ON and was then steadied to prevent tightening to GOLDEN KID on its inside. After this, PO CHING TREASURE was ridden along for some distance to obtain a more forward position.
After the 1100 Metres, HAPPY ROCKY was left racing wide and without cover.
Making the turn near the 900 Metres, GENERAL DINO was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TAI SMART.
At the 650 Metres, JIN JIN KING got its head on the side, lay in and became unbalanced after brushing the running rail.
TAI SMART was awkwardly placed behind LE PANACHE and RED ELYSEES near the 450 Metres.
When questioned, S de Sousa stated that, from a wide barrier, he was asked to obtain a forward position on BRING IT ON but not unnecessarily to lead. He said after shifting across to race closer to the rail, he then attempted to steady the tempo on BRING IT ON to allow PO CHING TREASURE to improve its position around BRING IT ON. He said however PO CHING TREASURE did not show as much speed as anticipated and rather than unnecessarily restrain BRING IT ON, he allowed the horse to maintain the lead and dictate the tempo of the race.
A veterinary inspection of PO CHING TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DYNAMIC EAGLE and HAPPY ROCKY were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (320) CARPENTER HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

On arrival at the barriers, W M Lai expressed concern regarding the action of FANTASTIC FABIO. FANTASTIC FABIO was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said the horse was lame in its right front leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, FANTASTIC FABIO was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, FANTASTIC FABIO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

VOYAGE KING lost its right front plate approaching the 750 Metres.
Near the 550 Metres, CAMERA FACE became unbalanced of its own accord and lost ground and in doing so shifted out and bumped ULTIMATE GLORY. When CAMERA FACE became unbalanced, FOLLOW ME, which was following, was shifted out abruptly away from the heels of that horse and in doing so bumped VOYAGE KING, taking that horse wider. CAMERA FACE then commenced to give ground, resulting in PENANG HALL being checked out away from the heels of that horse near the 450 Metres. CAMERA FACE continued to give ground and finished at the tail of the field. A veterinary inspection of CAMERA FACE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance and racing manners of CAMERA FACE were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CAMERA FACE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Rounding the Home Turn, ROUNDABOUT raced tight outside SMART LEADER which shifted to the outside of STAR MAJESTIC to improve.
At the entrance to the Straight, SUMSTREETSUMWHERE was shifted in away from the heels of ENDEARING.
AMAZING was held up for a run passing the 200 Metres and near the 150 Metres was shifted to the outside of SUMSTREETSUMWHERE to obtain clear running.
Passing the 100 Metres, SUMSTREETSUMWHERE was inconvenienced when momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of CORDYCEPS.
Near the 75 Metres, AMAZING shifted out and brushed ULTIMATE GLORY.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ENDEARING, D Whyte stated that after obtaining a trailing position behind SUN TOUCH in the early stages, ENDEARING commenced to lay out making the first turn near the 900 Metres. He said he also had to commence to ride ENDEARING along at this time as the horse was reluctant to maintain its position inside CAMERA FACE. He said ENDEARING continued to lay out rounding the Home Turn and then in the Straight hung out after coming under heavy pressure. He added ENDEARING gave ground in the Straight and the manner in which it raced today indicated to him that the horse may have some internal issues. A veterinary inspection of ENDEARING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, ENDEARING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of VOYAGE KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, it was reported that STAR MAJESTIC had sustained a minor laceration to the left front coronet.
FOLLOW ME and CORDYCEPS were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (321) LUNG KONG HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1600 m

CHARITY GO (Z Purton) was crowded for room on jumping between CLASSIC BEAUTY and ENRICHMENT which was taken out by EASY GO EASY WIN which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. Z Purton stated that this incident, together with the slow tempo of the race, in his opinion, resulted in the horse not finishing off the race as strongly as had been anticipated.
From wide barriers, MONGOLIAN LEGEND, TIME TO CELEBRATE and PIKACHU were all steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1400 Metres, HEAVENLY THOUGHT got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain a trailing position behind FURORE.
For some distance approaching and passing the 1400 Metres, CHARITY GO got its head up on a number of occasions when proving very difficult to settle.
After the 700 Metres, TIME TO CELEBRATE was awkwardly placed behind HELENE LEADING STAR which shifted ground when awkwardly placed close to the heels of TIGRE DU TERRE.
At the entrance to the Straight, ENRICHMENT and CHARITY GO raced tight as ENRICHMENT attempted to shift to the outside of EASY GO EASY WIN. For a short distance after this, ENRICHMENT had difficulty obtaining clear running.
SICHUAN DAR was held up for clear running passing the 200 Metres and then was steadied passing the 100 Metres when disappointed for running between HEAVENLY THOUGHT and CLASSIC BEAUTY. After this, SICHUAN DAR was awkwardly placed behind HEAVENLY THOUGHT and consequently was not able to be fully tested.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that after being ridden for speed at its only other race start in Hong Kong, HELENE LEADINGSTAR did not finish off the race as anticipated after travelling keenly in the early and middle stages. He said subsequent to that race he had ridden HELENE LEADINGSTAR in a barrier trial and the horse was ridden quietly in this trial to see if it would finish off the trial. He said in today’s race he was asked to ride HELENE LEADINGSTAR quietly to ensure the horse did not over-race. He said after being awkwardly placed outside the heels of KA YING STAR shortly after the start, HELENE LEADINGSTAR commenced to travel keenly when racing in restricted room between TIGRE DU TERRE and CHARITY GO which was travelling keenly. He said rather than ride along HELENE LEADINGSTAR to maintain its position between these horses and risk the horse commencing to over-race, he elected to steady HELENE LEADINGSTAR and obtain a trailing position behind TIGRE DU TERRE. He said due to the slow tempo of the race in the early and middle stages HELENE LEADINGSTAR would not relax and travelled too keenly and on a number of occasions raced close to the heels of TIGRE DU TERRE. He added after momentarily racing in restricted room at the entrance to the Straight between TIGRE DU TERRE and TIME TO CELEBRATE, HELENE LEADINGSTAR then finished off the race well given the tempo of the race and the racing manners of the horse.
After the race, A Badel, the rider of TIGRE DU TERRE, stated that the horse’s disappointing performance could be attributed to the tempo of the race in the early and middle stages which did not suit his mount. A veterinary inspection of TIGRE DU TERRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of MONGOLIAN KING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHARITY GO, KA YING STAR and EASY GO EASY WIN were sent for sampling.
