After the 100 Metres, PACKING DRAGON was momentarily eased away from the heels of RATTAN which shifted in.
For the majority of the race, ROMANTIC TOUCH raced with its head on the side and lay out.
When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Straight, G van Niekerk stated that his mount shifted out marginally rounding the Home Turn. He said when it did this, JOLLY BANNER improved its position quickly to be racing to the inside of PACKING DRAGON and outside the heels of ROMANTIC TOUCH on straightening. He said he was of the view that PACKING DRAGON did not shift a great deal of ground at this time, however, it was enough for JOLLY BANNER to be able to improve its position between ROMANTIC TOUCH and PACKING DRAGON. He added approaching the 300 Metres JOLLY BANNER and PACKING DRAGON then raced tight as JOLLY BANNER continued to improve into tight running between ROMANTIC TOUCH and his mount. G van Niekerk was advised that his explanation would be reported and told to ensure that he rides his mounts competitively at all times so as to leave no room for query.
ROMANTIC TOUCH and RATTAN were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (21) DONGGUAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1600 m

Shortly after the start, PATRIOT HERO was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, HO HO FEEL commenced to travel keenly and was steadied away from the heels of CHEERFUL GIGGLES.
Making the turn near the 900 Metres, MONGOLIAN LEGEND got its head on the side and lay out. MONGOLIAN LEGEND was then taken wider by CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO passing the 800 Metres when that horse shifted to the outside of FRIENDS OF KA YING. After this, MONGOLIAN LEGEND was left racing wide and without cover.
Also making the turn near the 900 Metres, HO HO FEEL raced tight inside CHEERFUL GIGGLES which was crowded for room inside CHEERFUL STAR (C Murray) which shifted in marginally. C Murray was advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
In the early part of the Straight, HO HO FEEL was shifted to the outside of runners to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 100 Metres, Apprentice M F Poon (HO HO FEEL) was struck on the left arm by the whip of C Schofield (CHEERFUL GIGGLES).
Close to the finishing line, HO HO FEEL was awkwardly placed outside the heels of PATRIOT HERO and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
In the Straight, CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO got its head on the side and lay in and passing the 200 Metres brushed FRIENDS OF KA YING. After this, CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO and FRIENDS OF KA YING raced tight and then over the concluding stages FRIENDS OF KA YING shifted out marginally and brushed CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO.
CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO and FRIENDS OF KA YING were sent for sampling.

JIMSON THE FAMOUS shifted out at the start and bumped CHIU CHOW KID. Then shortly after the start, CHIU CHOW KID raced tight between WONDERFUL TIGER and JIMSON THE FAMOUS which was taken out by TRIUMPHAL WIN. CHIU CHOW KID was subsequently shifted across behind runners to obtain cover from a wide barrier.
Shortly after the start, LOADED and SUPREME WITNESS bumped.
In the early stages, GOLDEN CANNON travelled keenly and after the 1200 Metres got its head up when awkwardly placed behind OTOUTO. After this, GOLDEN CANNON continued to over-race and near the 950 Metres shifted out away from the heels of OTOUTO, resulting in SOCCER BRAVE being inconvenienced passing the 900 Metres.
After the 800 Metres, VICTORY MARCH raced tight inside SOCCER BRAVE which got its head on the side and shifted in marginally.
Throughout the race, JIMSON THE FAMOUS travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, A Sanna expressed concern regarding the action of SOCCER BRAVE. SOCCER BRAVE was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that there were no significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of WONDERFUL TIGER and MAGIC AGILITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUPREME WITNESS and CHIU CHOW KID were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (23) FOSHAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

BEST GIFT shifted out at the start and bumped FLYING QUEST.
MUTUAL JOY shifted in on jumping, resulting in BRING IT ON being crowded for room outside WITNESS HUNTER. Then from the outside barriers, BRING IT ON and MUTUAL JOY were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
MY WINNER shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of GOLDEN EFFORT which became unbalanced.
Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, GOLDEN EFFORT was unable to clear MY WINNER approaching and making the first turn near the 900 Metres and was consequently left racing wide and without cover throughout the race and gave ground in the Straight.
Making the first turn near the 900 Metres, BEST GIFT shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of FLYING QUEST which became unbalanced.
After the 900 Metres, WITNESS HUNTER was left racing wide and without cover.
After the 700 Metres, BEST GIFT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SHINING ON.

SHINING ON was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Near the 250 Metres, BEST GIFT was shifted to the outside of SHINING ON after being disappointed for running inside that horse which improved into tight running inside MONEYMORE.
Passing the 200 Metres, SHINING ON and MONEYMORE bumped as a result of both horses shifting a minimal amount of ground, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced.
A veterinary inspection of WITNESS HUNTER and GOLDEN EFFORT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MY WINNER, ENDEARING and SHINING ON were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (24) HUIZHOU HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

Race:7 (25) SHENZHEN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1600 m

RIGHTEOUS MATE was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right front foot). Before being allowed to race again, RIGHTEOUS MATE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GREAT TREASURE was slow to begin and then shortly after the start threw its head in the air when being ridden along to improve its position.
When being ridden along to obtain a forward position, PO CHING TREASURE raced tight shortly after the start between SMART CHARADE and PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT, both of which shifted ground.
From the outside barrier, FULL OF CHANCES was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, GOOD DAYS failed to muster speed and was shifted across behind runners shortly after the start.
Approaching the 900 Metres, RED ELYSEES raced tight between PO CHING TREASURE and THE FULL BLOOM which shifted in marginally.
Rounding the Home Turn, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was shifted in away from the heels of RED ELYSEES. Then passing the 400 Metres, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was steadied when disappointed for running between PO CHING TREASURE which shifted to the outside of PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT and RED ELYSEES which shifted in marginally. After this, ELECTRIC LIGHTNING was shifted to the outside of RED ELYSEES to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 200 Metres, RED ELYSEES momentarily raced tight between LET US WIN which lay in under pressure and SMART CHARADE which also shifted ground. In this incident, SMART CHARADE was directed in to relieve the tightening to RED ELYSEES, resulting in PO CHING TREASURE, which had been unable to obtain clear running, having to be steadied away from the heels of SMART CHARADE.
ELECTRIC LIGHTNING lost its left front plate after the race.
When questioned regarding the performance of SMART CHARADE, H N Wong stated that he was asked to ride the horse in behind the speed if possible. He said it was anticipated that SMART CHARADE may, from barrier 3, be able to obtain a position in front of midfield. He said he was aware that PO CHING TREASURE, which was drawn immediately inside SMART CHARADE, had often not been able to obtain a forward position despite being ridden along and that on occasions when the horse had been able to take up a prominent position, it had taken the horse some time to do so. He said SMART CHARADE began very well and PO CHING TREASURE, despite being hard ridden in the early stages, was not mustering speed to the inside of SMART CHARADE. He said he was reluctant to allow PO CHING TREASURE the opportunity to continue to attempt to improve its position inside SMART CHARADE as he was concerned that if this took some time, that would allow other runners to improve their position behind PO CHING TREASURE which may have resulted in SMART CHARADE being left racing wide. He said he therefore allowed SMART CHARADE to cross PO CHING TREASURE which he was able to do without having to make too much use of the horse. He added after clearing PO CHING TREASURE, SMART CHARADE was positioned to the outside of PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT. He said he immediately commenced to steady his mount in order to allow other runners to improve their position forward of SMART CHARADE which would have provided SMART CHARADE with cover. He said in assessing the race it was hoped that LET US WIN or GOOD DAYS, from wider barriers, would be ridden along to obtain the lead, however, when neither of these horses was able to go forward, it resulted in SMART CHARADE having to race outside the lead in the early stages. He added after the 1300 Metres he continued to steady his mount in the hope that THE FULL BLOOM would improve its position either outside the lead or into the lead which would have resulted in SMART CHARADE racing somewhere closer to where it had been anticipated that the horse would be able to be positioned. He said however that when THE FULL BLOOM did not continue forward, this resulted in SMART CHARADE racing in a more forward position than had been expected and without cover. He said SMART CHARADE travelled keenly outside the leader PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT and did not relax as he had hoped. He said SMART CHARADE came under heavy pressure in the early part of the Straight and then gave ground, particularly over the final 200 Metres. He said whilst SMART CHARADE was disappointing, he felt that the circumstances of the race had not been to the horse’s advantage. A veterinary inspection of SMART CHARADE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of SMART CHARADE, a favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SMART CHARADE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Apprentice C Wong stated that he was asked, from barrier 8, to ride positively on THE FULL BLOOM in the early stages and obtain a position behind the speed with cover if possible. He said it was felt that today’s race would not be run at a fast tempo which would provide THE FULL BLOOM with the opportunity to obtain a forward position without having be ridden along. He said in accordance with his instructions he allowed THE FULL BLOOM to assume a forward position in the early stages and after travelling a short distance steadied his mount in order to find cover behind the leaders, PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT and SMART CHARADE. He said ELECTRIC LIGHTNING maintained its position to the inside of THE FULL BLOOM in the early stages in a three wide position which allowed RED ELYSEES the opportunity to maintain its position to the inside of ELECTRIC LIGHTNING. He said because of this he was not able to obtain a position with cover behind SMART CHARADE and consequently raced three wide and without cover throughout the race. He added because of this THE FULL BLOOM was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of THE FULL BLOOM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that, as is usual, he was asked to ride PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT where it was comfortable as the horse had previously shown a tendency to prove difficult to settle when ridden along. He said it had been hoped that, from barrier 1, PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT would be able to obtain cover behind the leader, however, it was open to him to lead the race if it meant that he would not have to unnecessarily restrain the horse. He said PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT began well and he was able to obtain the lead on the horse without having to make any use of it. He said in the early and middle stages he attempted to steady the tempo as he was aware that the race was being run quicker than what he had hoped, however, he was reluctant to place more pressure on PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT given its previous racing history. He said this resulted in the race being run at a quicker tempo than had been anticipated and consequently PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT was then not able to finish off the race and weakened. A veterinary inspection of PRESIDENTPARAMOUNT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PO CHING TREASURE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
SMART CHARADE, GREAT TREASURE and FULL OF CHANCES were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (26) SHANTOU HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

CITY LEGEND began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by ENJOY LIFE which shifted out.
From the outside barriers, INVESTOR BOOM and FOREVER POSH were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
AVELLINO was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
SUPER FUN travelled keenly in the early and middle stages.
Near the 550 Metres, CITY LEGEND and ROCKAGE raced tight as CITY LEGEND shifted to the outside of ENJOY LIFE.
Passing the 400 Metres, ROCKAGE was bumped by AVELLINO which was directed to the outside of CITY LEGEND to obtain clear running. AVELLINO was then shifted in away from the heels of CITY LEGEND passing the 350 Metres when unable to improve to that horse’s outside.
A veterinary inspection of VITAL SPRING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PAKISTAN FRIEND, HINYUEN SWIFTNESS and CITY LEGEND were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (27) CHAOZHOU HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

MR WEALTH began only fairly.
JOYFUL MOMENTS and ENCORE BOY bumped at the start.
TANG FLEMING shifted out at the start and bumped GRAN MASTER which became unbalanced and in turn shifted out and bumped SHIMMER AND SHINE.
Shortly after the start, GO PUBLIC was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Making the turn after the 700 Metres, JOYFUL MOMENTS and MR WEALTH raced tight inside TANG FLEMING which was racing in restricted room inside SHIMMER AND SHINE.
At the 500 Metres, MR WEALTH was crowded for room between TANG FLEMING (N Callan) which shifted in marginally and JOYFUL MOMENTS which, after being bumped on the hindquarters by MR WEALTH, shifted out. N Callan was advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room to runners on his inside. GRAN MASTER and GO PUBLIC, which were following, were inconvenienced in consequence.
At the entrance to the Straight, GRAN MASTER was steadied when disappointed for running between STAR OF YAN OI and TANG FLEMING which shifted out.
When questioned, S Clipperton stated that it was intended for CALIFORNIA ARCHER to be ridden in a forward position as it previously had been the case. He said CALIFORNIA ARCHER has a history of being worked up at the start and the horse again today was fractious after being placed in the barriers. He said when the start was effected CALIFORNIA ARCHER began only fairly and was then inconvenienced by GO PUBLIC which shifted out. He said as he believed that he would have had to make too much use of CALIFORNIA ARCHER to ride that horse into a forward position, given the manner in which it began, he elected then to shift across behind runners and obtain a position with cover on CALIFORNIA ARCHER much further back in the field than had been anticipated. He added in the circumstances CALIFORNIA ARCHER finished off the race quite well.
When questioned regarding his riding of WINNING VANGOGH, Apprentice H T Mo stated that he was instructed, from the inside barrier, to lead on the horse as this was consistent with the manner he had ridden the horse previously. He said in order to comply with his instructions he continued to ride the horse along in the early and middle stages despite MYTHICAL EMPEROR holding an advantage over WINNING VANGOGH. Apprentice Mo agreed that in retrospect he should have allowed MYTHICAL EMPEROR to cross WINNING VANGOGH given that that horse raced in advance of WINNING VANGOGH and then should have shifted to the outside of that horse rather than continuing to ride his mount along to remain racing to its inside. Apprentice Mo was advised that whilst it is important for a rider to comply with his instructions wherever circumstances permit, nonetheless in order to give his mounts the best opportunity to finish off the race, he must be aware of the prevailing circumstances and ride them accordingly. A veterinary inspection of WINNING VANGOGH immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm and an endoscopic examination also showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WINNING VANGOGH will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Z Purton stated that he was asked to lead on MYTHICAL EMPEROR if possible. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages and it took him some time to cross ENCORE BOY to his inside. He said due to having to ride his mount forward of ENCORE BOY, he established a margin over WINNING VANGOGH which was racing on the rail at this time. He said given that he had established what he considered a significant advantage over WINNING VANGOGH and having regard to the fact that that horse had been ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, he felt that WINNING VANGOGH would be steadied by its rider to allow MYTHICAL EMPEROR to cross rather than continuing to be ridden along to maintain its position inside MYTHICAL EMPEROR. He added however that when that horse continued to pursue the position inside MYTHICAL EMPEROR, despite at all times MYTHICAL EMPEROR having an advantage over WINNING VANGOGH, he ceased riding his mount along after the 700 Metres. He said because of the amount of use that had to be made of MYTHICAL EMPEROR in the early stages, the horse then came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and gave ground noticeably in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of MYTHICAL EMPEROR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MYTHICAL EMPEROR, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MYTHICAL EMPEROR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MR WEALTH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SHIMMER AND SHINE, GO PUBLIC and ENCORE BOY were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (28) GUANGZHOU HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

SIXTY SIXTY shifted in at the start, resulting in BEAUTY ENERGY being crowded onto HANDSOME BO BO which became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by BEAUTY ENERGY.
TIANCHI MONSTER began very awkwardly, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced.
AEROHAPPINESS began only fairly, shifted out at the start and bumped AFFLUENCE START which became unbalanced.
From a wide barrier, BEST STEP was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
When being steadied to obtain a position with cover, AFFLUENCE START was bumped by AEROHAPPINESS approaching the 1000 Metres as that horse shifted out when being ridden along to obtain a more forward position.
Near the 950 Metres, BEST STEP and TIANCHI MONSTER bumped on a number of occasions as BEST STEP improved to be racing tight inside VIGOR FAME. VIGOR FAME was then shifted out to relieve the tightening to BEST STEP and TIANCHI MONSTER which resulted in VIGOR FAME travelling wide and without cover.
After the 800 Metres, BEAUTY ENERGY was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 300 Metres, TIANCHI MONSTER was shifted to the outside of SIXTY SIXTY when disappointed for running inside that horse.
Passing the 200 Metres, SIXTY SIXTY was awkwardly placed inside HANDSOME BO BO and near the 150 Metres was shifted to the outside of that horse after being disappointed for running inside HANDSOME BO BO. SIXTY SIXTY was then shifted back in abruptly to avoid causing crowding to TIANCHI MONSTER which was inconvenienced when momentarily tightened for room inside CALIFORNIA GUNGHO which was shifted out at this time to relieve the tightening to TIANCHI MONSTER.
LUCKY GUY had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of VIGOR FAME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
AEROHAPPINESS, HIGH FIVE and LUCKY GUY were sent for sampling.
