Redzel firms for Black Caviar Lightning Stakes

The Snowden trained Snitzel sprinter Redzel has tightened his grip on favouritism with  at $1.75 for the $750,000, Group 1 WFA Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.

A field of ten were accepted on Wednesday with Redzel drawing barrier nine for Kerrin McEvoy

Redzel heads to Flemington with the impressive record of winning his last six starts commencing with the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes over 1200m at Randwick last April 15th.

Since that time Redzel has taken all before him to become Australia’s premier sprinter. In four races over the spring Redzel won them all, including the first running of The Everest over 1200m at Randwick and the Group 1 Darley Classic over 1200m at Flemington, to earn his large collection of owners a massive $6.6 million in stakes.

“Redzel firmed from $1.80 into $1.75 after drawing barrier nine and having nine opponents,” TAB’s Nick Quinn said.

“Such is the strength of the race that defending champion Terravista and Newmarket winner Redkirk Warrior are both double figure odds.”

Terravista has barrier four for Mark Zahra while Redkirk Warrior (GB) has barrier seven for Regan Bayliss.
