RACE 1 – Precise Air Handicap 1400m

Deep Encounter – the Stewards allowed App C Williams to claim 1½ kgs on the colt, a half kilogram over his riding weight when no other apprentice was available to take the ride.  App C Williams was fined $100 under LR70.  Deep Encounter hung out throughout the early and middle stages of the event.  Trainer J Thompson was advised a warning would be placed on the colt in relation to its racing manners.

Spaceboy – jumped awkwardly.  Near the 300m, App R Dolan dropped his whip.  When questioned regarding the quick pace that he set through the early and middle stages, App R Dolan advised that after commencing fairly, he was obliged to make use of Spaceboy to cross Twentyfour Carat and after obtaining the lead, Spaceboy then commenced to race keenly and for this reason, set a strong early tempo.  He stated that given his experience on the horse, he felt Spaceboy would be disadvantaged if he was to place too much pressure on the horse to come back as the gelding has shown an inclination in the past to resent being restrained and accordingly, he elected to work with the horse in an endeavour to have it settle and race comfortably.  He added that from the 600m, he elected to allow Spaceboy to improve forward in an endeavour to establish a more sizable lead entering the home straight.  App Dolan agreed with Stewards that in hindsight, his better option would have been to ride the gelding more conservatively on the home turn which would have provided Spaceboy with a better opportunity to finish the race off.

Starla – blundered on jumping away and then was shifted behind runners shortly after the start.

Absolute Panda's – shifted behind runners shortly after the start from a wide barrier.  In the early stages, raced keenly and approaching the 1000m, was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Deep Encounter.  Approaching the 150m, when commencing to make ground, was hampered when taken in by Vinaigrette, which was inclined to lay in.  J Ford, rider of Vinaigrette, was advised to exercise more care.

Vinaigrette – raced ungenerously when being restrained during the early stages to obtain cover.  At the 400m, hung in away from Starla when racing tight between that runner and Quintessa and as a result, Vinaigrette was steadied from the heels of Quintessa.  The Stewards determined that the racing manners of Vinaigrette were the principal reason for the incident.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

RACE 2 – The Agency Projects Handicap 1800m

Navy Cross – began awkwardly.

Continuation – slow to begin.

Just Society – raced ungenerously when being restrained to obtain cover in the early stages.  When questioned regarding the colt racing back in the field, rider R King stated her intention had been to settle more forward, but from a wide barrier when there was no prospect of obtaining a position closer than three wide, she was obliged to restrain Just Society to the back of the field in order to ensure the colt obtained cover.

Lewis – in the middle stages, once shifting to the outside of Navy Cross, commenced to race keenly for some distance thereafter.

Costas – when questioned regarding the performance, rider M Harley stated he was requested to ride the gelding conservatively and after improving to the outside on straightening, Costas was inclined to lay in but was most disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr D Fitton stated that the gelding may appreciate a softer track than what it received today and undertook to report back on the post race condition of the gelding.

RACE 3 – Drinkwise Plate 1100m

High Advice – was slow to begin and then was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

Zouriana – after beginning awkwardly, was then checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between L’Cosmo, which was taken out by Hulk, and Lady Herbert, which jumped away awkwardly and shifted in.  Approaching the 600m was hampered when momentarily crowded by High Advice, which shifted in and away from Born To Play, which ran in when inclined to race greenly.

Instant Attraction – began awkwardly and shifted out.  Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.  Over the final 200m, laid out when placed under pressure.

Born To Play – was shifted behind runners shortly after the start.

Clever Man – was shifted behind runners shortly after the start.

Hulk – in the middle stages, raced keenly and for some distance near the 700m, was steadied from the heels of Dirty Work.

L’Cosmo – in the middle stages overraced.

Lady Herbert – in the middle stages overraced.

RACE 4 – The Agency Real Estate Choisir Handicap 1100m

Southern Lad – when caught wide throughout the event, was inclined to overrace when its rider App R Dolan had initially attempted to find cover on the gelding.

Agent Pippa – hung out rounding the home turn.  Agent Pippa bled from both nostrils for the first time.  Trainer Mr K Lees was advised that the mare will now incur the mandatory three month ban from racing and cannot be worked on a racecourse for two months in accordance with AR79(4). Mr Lees was further advised that Agent Pippa must gallop 1000m under the supervision of a Steward prior to being permitted to race again.

RACE 6 – JCDecaux Handicap 1400m

Coys – slow to begin.

Jetski – shortly after the start was shifted behind runners from its wide barrier.  Near the 1000m, was steadied to avoid the heels of High Mist.

Magic Charlie – shortly after the start was shifted behind runners from its wide barrier.

High Mist – near the 1000m, Coys commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from the heels of McCormack, shifted out and made contact with High Mist resulting in High Mist being taken wider.  Rider G Schofield stated that after being hampered on the first turn, High Mist was obliged to race further back than the position he had initially obtained and in his opinion was then disadvantaged in that High Mist found it difficult to make up ground on today's track.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr D Fitton was asked to report back on the post race condition of the gelding.

Zouologist – rider M Harley stated that the gelding travelled only fairly in the run and once placed under pressure in the straight, commenced to give ground and was inconvenienced near the 200m when his mount was giving round at that time.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Stable representative Mr D Fitton was asked to report back on the post race condition of the gelding.

Loved One – bumped at the start.  Pulled hard in the middle stages of the event and refused to settle.

D’Oro Rain – bumped at the start.

Arrogant Lass – jumped away awkwardly and shifted in making contact with Mill City.  Near the 100m, when commencing to give ground, was steadied when awkwardly positioned between Ardanza and Mill City.

Palurien –was shifted behind runners shortly after the start from its wide barrier.

Cardinet – rider T Nugent stated that his mount was under pressure from the 600m and he had some concerns with its action behind.  A post race veterinary examination revealed Cardinet to be slow to recover.  Trainer Mr M Beer expressed his disappointment in the mare's performance today and advised Stewards that he will have his stable veterinarian conduct a full examination of Cardinet in the next few days and report back to the Stewards with respect to those findings.  Mr Beer was advised that having regard to the performance of the mare today, a veterinary clearance would be required prior to it trialling or racing again.

Guise – was shifted behind runners shortly after the start.  On the home turn and early part of the straight, had difficulty in obtaining clear running.

King Hewitt – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Nahuel – when questioned regarding the gelding racing more forward, App J Van Overmeire stated that from his wide draw, his instructions were today to be positive on the gelding to take up a forward position.  Co-trainer Mr M Freedman confirmed the instructions and was reminded of his obligation to inform Stewards of any change in riding tactics.

RACE 9 – Sharp Extensive IT Handicap 1100m

Crafty Tycoon – as App B Owen was indisposed, App C Williams was substituted as the rider of the gelding.  From its wide barrier, was shifted in behind runners.  On the home turn, when being shifted to the outside of Nicconi Poni, became awkwardly placed close to the heels of that runner and had to be steadied.
