WYONG – Friday 6 September 2019

RACE 7: 2019 Carlton Draught Wyong Gold Cup Listed Race 2100m:

Sixties Groove – Trainer Mr K Lees reported that the gelding remained mildly bilaterally lame upon inspection this morning and he was therefore advised that a full veterinary clearance will be required prior to Sixties Groove being permitted to race or barrier trial again.

Late Rider Changes:

As apprentice M Weir was indisposed due to illness, the Stewards permitted the following rider substitutions:

Race 3 App R Dolan on Annie Pru.
Race 4 J Ford on Maxbux as no apprentice was available at the weight.

RACE 1: Strawberry Hill Stud Handicap 1300m

Superium – When questioned rider K McEvoy stated that in his opinion whilst taking up a forward position, Superium was not suited by the slow early tempo as the race developed into a sprint home. He added Superium would derive benefit from today's experience and in his opinion would also be suited by being stepped up in distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  

 

Pandemic – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding rider T Berry stated that Pandemic in his opinion was not unsuited by the slow early tempo and furthermore his mount did not run out a strong 1300m and was inclined to lay in.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Maddi Rocks – Between the 400m and the 300m was held up for clear running. Over the final 200m laid in under pressure.

 

Pretty Brazen – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover until the 800m. Raced keenly throughout the middle stages. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

 

Emeralds – Between the 400m and 300m was held up for clear running and near the 300m was shifted to the inside of Maddi Rocks to continue into clear running. Over the concluding stages was held up on the heels of Yao Dash.

 

RACE 2: TAB Highway Class 3 Handicap 1200m

Press Box – Held up for clear running between the 400m and the 250m and near the 200m was steadied when momentarily crowded between Rioli and Hit The Target which shifted out slightly.

 

Barbass – Began awkwardly and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  App R Dolan advised that the gelding settled back as expected but failed to respond to his riding in the straight and he could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have mucus nasal discharge. Trainer Mr C Crockett was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Barbass trialling or racing again.

 

Rioli – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Charlotte's Heart – Shifted its off fore plate en route to the barriers. After being replated Charlotte's Heart was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Officer and deemed suitable to race. In the early stages was inclined to lay out. Raced wide and without cover throughout the majority of the event. Rider J Collett stated that whilst he was obliged to race further back today than had been anticipated due to the mare not showing sufficient speed in the early stages, he said in his opinion the mare was still disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have reopened a wound to the off hind pastern.

 

Denmiss – Held up between the 350m and the 100m when positioned close to the heels of Leshrac. Over the final 100m could not be fully tested when it remained awkwardly placed close to the heels of Leshrac.

 

Revitup Rednut – When K O'Hara advised that she was unable to arrive on course by the prescribed time due to transport difficulties, Stewards endeavoured to source a replacement rider. When no rider was able to ride Revitup Rednut less than 2.5kg above its declared weight of 53kg, Stewards ruled that the mare be withdrawn at 12:21pm.

 

Leshrac – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid out over the final 300m.

 

Marokawa – Overaced in the early and middle stages. Over the final 300m was unable to obtain clear running and could not be tested and near the 200m was checked for some distance to avoid the heels of Vacate. 

 

Glamour Cruise – Stewards permitted T Clark to ride the mare 1/2kg over its allotted weight of 53kg. Fractious in the barriers resulting in its cross-over noseband having to be reapplied. Slow to begin and shortly after the start had be checked when crowded between Nicconita and Leshrac which shifted out. Making the home turn was held up behind Marokawa and was unable to improve when positioned to the inside of the heels of Nicconita. On straightening Glamour Cruise shifted to the inside of Marokawa to attempt to obtain clear running but when unable to do so was then shifted to the outside of Marokawa at the 200m to obtain clear running.

 

RACE 3: Might And Power For CPA Sprint 1100m

Bleu Roche – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Miss Invincible – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid out in the straight.  

 

Kawaikini – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance rider T Berry stated that Kawaikini changed stride near the 100m, dipped slightly and from this point he did not test the mare has he felt something may have been amiss.A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr J Coyle expressed disappointed with the performance of the mare and undertook to report back to the Stewards on the post-race condition and future race plans.

 

Jay Jay D'Ar – Near the 150m was shifted to the inside of Miss Invincible to continue into clear running.

 

Ballistica – Slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Near the 350m was awkward on the heels of Bleu Roche when obtaining a narrow run between Kawaikini and Bleu Roche.

 

 

 

RACE 4: Sydney Markets Handicap 1200m

Petrology – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.In the straight hung in and proved difficult to ride out.

 

Baller – Trainer A Cummings was fined $100 under AR106(1) for presenting Baller with blinkers which are not part of its approved race gear.

 

Master Ash – Held up between the 400m and 300m.

 

Condor – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

All Too Free – Rider K McEvoy stated he endeavoured to find cover on the mare but was unable to do so and as consequence All Too Free travelled four wide and without cover throughout the majority of the event. He stated that All Too Free raced too keenly and this was the principal reason for its disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  

 

Eugene's Pick – From the wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. When questioned regarding his riding in the straight App B Ryan stated that upon entering the straight, he attempted to obtain a narrow run between Condor and All Too Free however when that run did not fully develop Eugene's Pick was held up for clear running between the 400m and 250m. He stated he then shifted to the inside of Condor to endeavour to follow Murillo and as he did so All Too Free shifted out which presented a run between Condor and All Too Free, but as he was committed to the inside of Condor he continued to ride his mount forward to improve to the inside of that runner. He stated that when Murillo commenced to give ground he became held up on that runners heels and when Eugene's Pick commenced to hang in he was unable to shift his mount to the outside of Murillo when a run had developed to that runners outside. He added as a consequence Eugene's Pick was checked from the heels of Murillo near the 100m, lost momentum and in the circumstances finished the race off reasonably well.

 

Tarbert – Raced ungenerously when being shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Wander – Near the 900m was steadied when crowded between All Too Free and Condor which laid out.

 

Maxbux – Slow to begin.

 

RACE 5: Darley Furious Stakes 1200m (Group 2)

Kiamichi – Rider H Bowman stated that the filly travelled comfortably outside the leader in a moderately run event but when Villami increased the tempo on straightening Kiamichi did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner it weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer representative Mr D Beadman advised the Stewards the filly had pleased the stable in its work leading into today's and could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance. Mr Beadman was asked to report back on the progress and future race plans for the filly.

 

Probabeel – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Bright Rubick and became unbalanced. Close to the finish rider J McDonald could not fully test his mount as Villami shifted in towards Probabeel. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have blood present in it's left nostril. Trainer Mr J Richards was advised of the provisions of AR79(8).

 

Villami – Laid out over the final 150m and near the 100m made contact with Libertini, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

 

Darling Point – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages however was obliged to race wide and without cover throughout. Rider N Rawiller advised Stewards that he had some concerns with the filly's action and did not fully test his mount in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

Bright Rubick – Crowded on jumping between Libertini and Probabeel which shifted out. Rider G Boss expressed concerns to the Stewards in relation to the manner in which it weakened out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

RACE 6: Forum Concorde Stakes 1000m (Group 3)

Pierata – Was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Nature Strip – Began awkwardly.Overraced in the early stages and refused to settle. Near the 600m became awkward on the heels of Zoustyle and was then shifted out whereby the gelding raced three wide without cover for the remainder of the event and continued to overrace making the home turn.

 

Sunlight – Rider L Currie stated that his intention was to be forward but when Nature Strip held its position one off whilst over racing Sunlight was caught wide and for this reason, he restrained to take up a position midfield with cover behind Nature Strip. He stated that Sunlightmade the home turn awkwardly and then in the straight took some time to balance up but near the 300m he felt the mare's run had ended and, in his opinion, would derive a fitness benefit from today's performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be 1/5 lame in the off foreleg. Co-Trainer Mr T McEvoy advised given the position of Sunlight in that it raced further back than anticipated he was satisfied with its performance. Co-Trainer Mr T McEvoy was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Sunlight barrier trailling or racing again.

 

Zoustyle – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

 

RACE 7: Bob Ingham Chelmsford Stakes 1600m (Group 2)

Avilius – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.  

 

Shraaoh – Slow to begin.

 

Brimham Rocks – When being shifted to the outside of Shraaoh approaching the 300m was inlclined to lay in and proved reluctant to shift to that runners outside. As a consequence, Brimham Rocks was placed close to the heels of Shraaoh for some distance near the 300m.

 

Sir Charles Road – Slow to begin. In the middle stages raced keenly and for some distance leaving the 800m was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Patrick Erin. Between the 400m and the 300m was held up behind Patrick Erin. Near the 200m improved to the inside of Patrick Erin however was disappointed for a run between that runner and Youngstar and had to be steadied. Sir Charles road Was then held up on the heels of Patrick Erin near the 100m.

 

Maurus – Trainer Mr J Thompson was fined $100 under LR35(2) for the late declaration of N Rawiller as the rider of the gelding.  

 

Angel Of Truth – Began awkwardly.

 

Finche – Laid in in the straight and near the 300m bumped with Avilius and became momentarily unbalanced.

 

Unforgotten – When questioned rider B Avdulla stated that the mare raced keenly in the early stages and when Avilius started a forward move from the 900m he elected to follow that runner from the 800m where Unforgotten travelled well into the event. He added that in the straight Unforgotten did not respond to his riding and was disappointed with its finishing effort in that it weakened over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr C Waller was asked to report back on the post-race condition of Unforgotten.

 

Youngstar – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.Approaching the 100m was awkwardly placed on the heels of Finche as Youngstar was obtaining running to that runner's outside.

 

Con Te Partiro – The mare which kicked out after being loaded into the barriers was a late scratching at 3:51pm acting on veterinary advice after Con Te Partiro sustained multiple lacerations to the near hock. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Con Te Partiro be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 3.51pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket:

1st Samadoubt– 4cents win, 9 cents place

2nd Avilius – 3 cents place;

3rd Girl Tuesday – 7 cents place

Co-Trainer Mr A Bott was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the mare barrier trialling or racing again.

 

Girl Tuesday – Slow to begin. Held up making the home turn.

 

Nettoyer – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Over the concluding stages when making ground was not fully tested as it was improving towards the heels of Avilius.

 

RACE 8: Harvey Norman Tramway Stakes 1400m (Group 2)

Life Less Ordinary – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Te Akau Shark – Between the 350m and 250m raced tight between Star Of The Seas and Eckstein as it improved between those two runners.

 

Kolding – Slow to begin. Held up making the home turn and in the straight did not obtain clear running until near the 150m.

 

Le Juge – Leaving the 700m Te Akau Shark and Star Of The Seas (K McEvoy) contested a position one off behind Eckstein resulting in Te Akau Shark making contact with Star Of The Seas on a number of occasions. When the pace steadied Te Akau Shark which continued to race tight to the inside of Star Of The Seas commenced to race keenly, became awkward on the heels of Eckstein and then shifted in away from Star Of The Seas resulting in Le Juge having to be checked and losing ground. In this incident Kaonic, Life Less Ordinary, Mister Sea Wolf and Mantastic were all steadied when hampered as a consequence. K McEvoy was reprimanded and advised he must ensure he leaves comfortable racing room to runners to his inside.

 

Archedemus – Began only fairly and was crowded between Eckstein and Penske which shifted out. Overraced throughout the early and middle stages. Near the 900m was steadied from the heels of Invincible Gem (B Avdulla) which shifted in slightly when inclined to lay in. B Avdulla was advised to exercise more care. Stewards found that the racing manners of Archedemus had contributed to the interference sustained to the gelding.

 

Mantastic – The gelding which opened the front gates of its barrier prior to the start being affected, was examined by the Club's Veterinary Officer and deemed suitable to race. Slow to begin.

 

Kaonic – Slow to begin.

 

Penske – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the near foreleg. Co-Trainer Mr A Bott was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding barrier trialling or racing again.

 

RACE 9: Nexon Handicap 1500m

Morton's Fork – Began awkwardly. Passing the 200m when commencing to make ground was steadied from the heels of Dealmaker and then shifted to that runners inside to improve. Over the final 75m Morton's Fork could not be tested when positioned close to the heels of Special Missile.

 

Artlee – Began awkwardly and from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Overraced throughout the early and middle stages.

 

Sweet Deal – Over the final 200m laid out and near the 50m made contact with Articus which resulted in N Rawiller rider of Sweet Deal and J Collett rider of Articus being placed in restricted room and not being able to use their whip in their usual manner.

 

Scarlet Dream – Slow to begin.

 

Dealmaker – Approaching the 1400m Muraaqeb was steadied from the heels of Dark Eyes when that runner was corrected by its rider.Tthis resulted in Maraaqueb shifting out bumping Morton's Fork which made heavy contact with Dealmaker resulting in Dealmaker becoming unbalanced resulting in Artlee having to be checked from the heels of Dealmaker.

 

Master Shuhood – Shortly after the start was crowded between Scarlet Dream and Articus. For a short distance near the 300m had difficulty obtaining clear running.

 

Pelethronius – Began awkwardly.

 

Carif – Stewards permitted T Clark ride the entire 1/2kg over its allotted weight of 53kg.Raced wide and without cover throughout.

 

Re Edit – For some distance near the 600m raced close to the heels of Articus. App B Ryan rider of Re Edit was cautioned against the practice of positioning his mounts to close to the heels of runners in front. Hung out making the home turn.

 

Summary of whip use:

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.

Race 6 T Berry (Pierata) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 8 T Berry (Eckstein) 7 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 9 J McDonald (Scarlet Dream) 6 strikes prior to the 100m.

 

 

Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners:

Race 1: Superium, Pandemic, Funstar(2), Maddi Rocks.

Race 2: Equal Balance, Hit The Target, Vacate, Rioli.

Race 3: Bleu Roche, Miss Invincible(3), Kawaikini, Ballistica(2).

Race 4: Murillo, Baller(2), Master Ash, Tarbert.

Race 5: Kiamichi, Libertini(2), Probabeel, Let It Pour, Villami.

Race 6: Redzel(2), Pierata(2), Nature Strip, Sunlight, Graff, Zoustyle.

Race 7: Samadoubt(2), Haripour, Sir Charles Road, Angle Of Truth, Unforgotten, Youngstar, Con Te Partiro, Avilius.

Race 8: Te Akau Shark(2), Dreamforce(2), Archedemus, Penske.

Race 9: Morton's Fork, Scarlet Dream(2), Re Edit.
