RACE 1:  Steel City Financial Planners Class 2 Handicap 900m

Ticket To Riches – slow to begin.

 

Justus – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Princess Snowy – App. A Skerritt was reprimanded under AR137A(5)(a)(i) for using the whip on three consecutive occasions prior to the 100m.

RACE 2:  Hunter Jaguar Class 1 Handicap 1400m

Wild About Her – began awkwardly.

 

Ramaway – pulled hard when overracing approaching the first turn with its head in the air.  Hung out from the 900m to the 400m.

 

Oakfield Jet – rider G Buckley stated that his mount was inclined to overrace approaching the first turn once the speed slackened.  He added that the gelding never settled throughout the run and advised the connections to drop it back in distance.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Celer- when questioned in relation to racing forward today, rider A Gibbons explained that he anticipated racing in a position with cover, however, after his mount began well from a wide barrier, he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward and take up the lead, where it travelled comfortably.

 

RACE 3:  Huxley Hill Group Maiden Handicap 1500m

Irish Slipper – pulled hard in the early stages.

 

Smiling Manolito – ran out under pressure over the concluding stages.

 

Saintly Sunrise – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Oakfield Romance – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr K Buchanan reported Oakfield Romance would now be spelled.


RACE 4:  The Garis Group 4YO & Up Maiden Plate 1850m

Ilcallya – the gelding was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 1.16pm after it was found to be lame in the near-hind leg.  Trainer Mr D Roberts was advised a veterinary certificate would be required prior to Ilcallya racing again.

 

Havazac – missed the start (3L).

 

Power From Within – had to be steadied when crowded from the 100m by Mushroom Rock (M Bell), which shifted in when not fully clear.  M Bell was asked to exercise more care.

 

Hawacain – trainer Mr C Karakatsanis was advised that a warning for being uncompetitive would be placed on the mare’s record.

 

Timeless Melody – when questioned regarding the poor performance, rider J Taylor stated that her mount travelled well until it was placed under pressure rounding the home turn and then weakened noticeably in the home straight and in her opinion did not run out a strong 1850m.

 

RACE 5:  Steel City FP F&M Maiden Plate 1200m

City Of Love – slow to begin and then taken wider shortly after the start and lost ground.  Laid out rounding the home turn.  Then had difficulty obtaining clear running on straightening.

 

Just Like Jessie – taken wider shortly after the start and lost ground.  Had to be checked on straightening when momentarily crowded by Seles, which was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn despite the efforts of its rider.

 

Seles – taken wider shortly after the start and lost ground.

 

Got The Giggles – pulled hard in the early stages.

 

Crystal Lake – bumped by another runner on straightening and became slightly unbalanced.

 

Alwaajid – rider App. R Prest reported that the mare hung throughout and was never tested down the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be displaying mild heat stress.  Stable representative Mr J Waters was advised Alwaajid must perform tractably in a barrier trial prior to racing again.

 

RACE 6:  McKanna Fabrications CG&E Maiden Plate 1200m

Izumi – stood flat-footed and missed the start (3L).  Stable representative Ms C Heuston was advised that a warning would be placed on the record of the gelding.

 

Applicant – began awkwardly.

 

Laguna Mountains – inconvenienced passing the 300m.  Laid in under pressure down the home straight.

 

Lucky Mission – laid out under pressure in the home straight.


 

RACE 7:  Roberts Legal Newcastle Nobbys – Benchmark 70 Handicap 1600m

Red Dream – bounded on jumping and lost ground (2L).

 

All But Gone – slow to begin.

 

Hermosa Reward – overraced during the early and middle stages.

 

Bills A Goodie – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.  Raced greenly in the home straight.

RACE 8:  Aspect Hunter School Benchmark 64 Handicap 1200m

Staraday – slow to begin.  Overraced approaching the first turn.

 

Sensacova – began awkwardly.

 

Imperial Eagle – momentarily crowded shortly after the start.

 

Radical Impact – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Ghibli – trainer Mr S Hodge stated that in his opinion the gelding may not have ran out the 1200m distance.  He said the gelding will come back in distance and he will continue with its preparation.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Annandale Lass – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer D Jackson will be interviewed Annandale Lass’s

GENERAL:

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the conduct of licensed jockey Ms B Hodder at the Taree race meeting on 19 October 2018.  B Hodder pleaded guilty to a charge of improper conduct under AR175(q).  B Hodder’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday 13 November 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 13 December 2018, on which day she may ride.

 

Summary of whip use:

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii).  Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.

 

Race 1 App. M Weir (Buckin’ Beauty) 7 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 4 M Bell (Mushroom Rock) 7 strikes prior to the 100m.
Race 8 App. R Prest (Sensacove) 7 strikes prior to the 100m.

 

Swab samples were taken from all winners and the following runners:

Race 2:  Subtle Grey.

Race 3:  Categoric,

Race 4:  Black Consul, Lutreola (2), Timeless Melody, Arlington Magic, Hawacain, Power From Within.

Race 7:  Mo The Great.

Race 8:  Restrain.
