Summary of whip use:
Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii). Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.

RACE 1: Prestige Wedding & Event Hire Maiden Plate 1200m
Duvessa – Was held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 200m, where it improved into a narrow run to the outside King Hewitt and made contact with Livia's Story.
Livia's Story – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
Rock'N'Roll Music - A post-race veterinary examination of the filly, which weakened over the final 200m, revealed no abnormalities other than a minor laceration to the off-hind gaskin.
RACE 2: Peoplefusion 3YO & Up Maiden Handicap 1400m
Red Currant – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
The Mist (NZ) – Slow to begin. Over the final 150m laid out and proved somewhat difficult for K Latham to ride out in his normal manner.
Lord Elliott (NZ) – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Daiquiri Lass – Was crowded on jumping between Lord Elliott and Sporty, which both shifted ground.
Britannicus – A veterinary examination of the gelding, which became fractious and reared after being loaded, was passed suitable to race. When closing the race off strongly laid in under pressure over the final 100m, obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten over the concluding stages.
Cruisy Starcraft – When the pace slackened approaching the 1000m commenced to overrace and had to be steadied away from the heels of Sporty. Lord Elliott, which was following, was steadied as a consequence. Cruisy Starcraft hung in until approaching the 200m.
RACE 3: TJS Services Maiden Plate 1600m
Kathmandu – Slow to begin.
Busker's Ballad – On straightening Saint Katarina established narrow running between Vision And Prayer and So Strong and shortly after, when placed under pressure, So Strong shifted out abruptly, carrying Saint Katarina out across the running of Vision And Prayer and Busker's Ballard which both had to steadied. As stewards were satisfied that B Avdulla had attempted to correct his mount immediately after it commenced to shift no action was taken.
Delos (NZ) – When questioned A Hyeronimus stated that his mount travelled comfortably in the lead and when asked to quicken from the 600m initially responded, however was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the final 300m. A Hyeronimus added that his mount, which was resuming from a spell today, failed to see out the 1600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative N Paine expressed disappointment with the performance and undertook to report back on the gelding's progress in the day's subsequent.
So Strong (NZ) – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the straight and approaching the 200m shifted out and made contact with Saint Katarina, which was taken out onto Kathmandu.
Hawacain – Slow to begin.
Saint Katarina – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Raced greenly and was inclined to shift ground over the final 200m.
RACE 4: Advanced Pest Control Class 1 & Maiden Plate 2300m
Funky Monkey – Slow to begin.
Rex Bell (IRE) – Raced wide and without cover from the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be 2/5 lame in the near foreleg. Stable representative D Podlewski was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the gelding racing again.
Momentum To Win – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Yuralla Boy – When the pace slackened approaching the 1300m had to be checked away from the heels of Mozart's Work. Terwilliker and Baroque, which were following, were steadied as a consequence. Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight, obliging its rider to change her whip through to her right hand approaching the 200m. Yuralla Boy continued to lay in for the remainder of the event and proved difficult to ride out.
All Man – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. After the pace slackened approaching the 1300m was shifted out approaching the 1000m and was ridden forward to assume the lead near the 900m.
Terwilliker – Rider A Adkins pleaded guilty to charges under AR137A(5)(a)(i) and AR137A(5)(a)(ii) for striking his mount on twelve occasions, including three successive strokes on two occasions, prior to the 100m, seven more than permitted under the rule. Relative to the breach under part (ii) A Adkins' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Sunday 18 March 2018 and to expire on Saturday 24 March 2018, on which day he may ride. Relative to the breach under part (i) A Adkins was reprimanded.
Clover Club – Was slow to begin.
RACE 5: Kam-Cool Refrigeration Beaumont Handicap 1400m
Osorno –Got its head up in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
Laburnum – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Hard Hustler (NZ) – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Became held up on straightening and did not obtain clear running until passing the 100m. During this time Hard Hustler was inclined to hang in and proved difficult to ride out.
Rock Zone – Rider C Reith reported that he was instructed to obtain cover on the gelding, as notified to Stewards, however after obtaining a position trailing Stealth Sniper in the early stages his mount commenced to race fiercely, refused to settle and as a consequence he shifted it out near the 1100m and allowed it to stride forward to assume a position outside the leader Signore Fox near the 900m.
Signore Fox – When questioned regarding racing in the lead, K McEvoy stated that he was instructed to obtain cover on the colt, however after beginning well and when no other runner showed intent to lead his mount was able to assume the lead without being pressured. K McEvoy added that his mount raced keenly throughout the event and in his opinion will be better suited ridden with cover, which would afford it greater opportunity to settle.
Catanzaro – Raced keenly in the early stages and got its head up rounding the first turn. Was held rounding the home turn and near the 300m again became badly held up when Signore Fox shifted out. Catanzaro was then unable to obtain clear running until passing the 100m
Stealth Sniper – Was held up rounding the home turn and shortly after straightening was steadied when disappointed for clear running between Catanzaro and Rock Zone, which shifted in.
Greysful Glamour – After the 300m became held up on the heels of Osorno, which shifted in, and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 100m.
In Good Health – Near the 1100m was hampered and carried wider when Rock Zone shifted out. Raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event, where it raced very keenly and proved difficult to settle.
Onthetake – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Was held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain completely clear running until near the 200m, where it shifted out and made contact with Laburnum.
RACE 6: Suez Newcastle Newmarket Handicap 1400m (Group 3)
Sound Proposition (NZ) – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. Stable representative P Burns was advised that a veterinary clearance, including satisfactory results of an ECG, would be required prior to the gelding barrier trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards.
Duca Valentinois (IRE) – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
Shiraz – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Spectroscope (USA) – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages.
Lanciato (NZ) – Slow to begin. Was help up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
Artlee – When questioned J Collett stated that he was instructed to obtain cover just behind the leaders. He stated after beginning well he allowed his mount to stride forward in accordance with his instructions, however when no position with cover was available he allowed his mount to continue to stride forward and ultimately race outside the leader Special Missile, however his mount raced too keenly in this position and as a consequence was left without a finishing effort. J Collett added in his opinion the gelding would be better suited ridden with cover, whereby it may travel more comfortably. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities, other than the gelding was making an abnormal respiratory noise. Stable representative P Burns advised that Artlee would undergo a thorough veterinary examination, including an endoscopic examination, on return to the stables, at which time the stable would determine the gelding's immediate racing future, the results of which he would report back to Stewards.
Royal Tudor – Raced keenly in middle stages. Was held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Approaching the 200m was steadied when disappointed for clear running between Mister Sea Wolf and What Could Be, which shifted out, and was then held up for a short distance.
Special Missile – Began awkwardly.
What Could Be – Began awkwardly.
RACE 7: Guardian Safety Solutions Provincial Posthaste – BM 80 Handicap 900m
Cockles – Had difficulty obtaining completely clear running until passing the 200m.
Eye Striker – Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out.
Niccobelle – When questioned T Wolfgram stated that his mount was obliged to race very wide from the outside barrier and after being bumped by Trust Me near the 500m made the home turn awkwardly and failed to finish its race off. T Wolfgram added that in his opinion the gelding, which was resuming from a spell today, would derive benefit from today's run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Barr Hill – Made the home turn awkwardly, shifted out and bumped Dreamalina. Hung in over the final 200m and proved difficult to ride out.
Run Sally Run – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Barr Hill.
Beside You – Slow to begin (2L).
Can't Skate – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped Latin Boy.
RACE 8: H L Mullane Benchmark 70 Handicap 1200m
Aanvoerder – From its wide barrier was steadied and shifted in behind runners in the early stages. Rounding the home turn was hampered and carried wider by Nadacheva, which itself was hampered and taken out by Valbeata (App C Baker), which endeavoured to improve to the outside of Paris For Me where there was insufficient room. App Baker was told to ensure there is sufficient room when attempting to improve.
Time Out Of Mind – Slow to begin and then was shifted in behind runners from its wide barrier in the early stages.
Hostwin Meraki (NZ) – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.
All Day – Rounding the home turn attempted to improve between Hostwin Meraki and Paris For Me where there was insufficient room, made contact with Paris For Me and had to be steadied. In this incident both All Day and Paris For Me became unbalanced.
Nikkas 'N' A Twist – Shifted its off-hind pate in the tie up stalls and had to be re-plated. The gelding was examined by the club's veterinary officer and passed suitable to race. Slow to begin and was then shifted in behind runners from its wide barrier in the early stages.
Sweet Deal – Over the final 50m raced tight with Tawfiq Boy and as a consequence rider J Collett was unable to fully test his mount to the finish.
Bright Idea – When questioned K McEvoy stated that his mount travelled comfortably throughout the early and middle stages, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn failed to respond and was disappointing. K McEvoy added that his mount, which was resuming from a spell, would derive benefit from today's run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Hebrides Maneuver – For some distance rounding the home turn was held up when awkwardly positioned on the heels of Bright Idea.
Capital Magic – Over the final 50m was unable to be tested when racing in restricted room between Time Out Of Mind and Bright Idea, which was giving ground.
