Once again the week commences with a firm favourite for a feature race with Mystic Journey at $2.25 with TAB for the $750,000, Group 1 WFA Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington with Scales of Justice on the second line out at $6.00.
The All In market has Yucatan (IRE) at $8.00, Hartnell (GB), Kings Will Dream (IRE) Mr Quickie and Rostropovich (IRE) at $11.00 with Fifty Stars (IRE), Humidor (NZ) and Night’s Watch (NZ) at $15.00 with the rest $26.00 and over.
The Adam Trinder four-year-old Need Further mare opened her campaign with a 3/4L win over Cliff’s Edge and Hartnell in the PB Lawrence Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on August 17th. Trinder then bypassed the Group 1 Memsie Stakes over the same distance on the same track on August 31st preferring to wait to this Saturday.
With the ultimate aim the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 26th Trinder is no doubt trying to space his mare’s runs.
The Lindsay Smith trained Scales Of Justice, another by Not A Single Doubt still improving with age like Samadoubt, won the Memsie Stakes well over So Si Bon and Alizee with Hartnell fourth. With his improvement this season it is an interesting question that the seven-year-old entire should be out at $6.00.
The track is rated a Good 4 on Monday with the rail in the True position for the entire circuit.
Melbourne’s weather this week has showers with 1mm – 3mm possible for Thursday and 0mm – 2mm for Friday. Temperatures range between 15c on Tuesday, 20c for Wednesday and Thursday with 18c for Friday. Saturday’s forecast is for a partly cloudy day with 9c – 17c.
