Racing Victoria (RV) advises that the Kilmore race meeting scheduled for this Thursday, 15 February has been transferred to Yarra Valley due to safety concerns with a section of the track.
An inspection today by RV Stewards found that the Kilmore track was not suitable to race this week, due to wear and tear imposed between the 500-metre and 350-metre mark at the Club’s last meeting on 1 February.
More than 60mm of rain had fallen in the lead up to the eight race card a fortnight ago, which resulted in surface damage to the section where the rail tapered from a position five metres out to the true position around the home turn.
Despite the best efforts of the Kilmore Racing Club to repair the track in time for Thursday’s meeting, Stewards were of the opinion that it hadn’t sufficiently recovered to safely conduct the meeting.
The Kilmore track is due to undergo an annual renovation from this Friday. That process will occur as scheduled to ensure that the track is suitable to conduct its next programmed meeting on 12 April.
Acceptances for the Yarra Valley meeting have now been extended until 2.30pm today. Horses which have already accepted for the original Kilmore meeting will be given preference in the ballot order.
As a result of the transfer, there have been changes to the field limits for all races and the distances for seven of the eight events.
