LATE RIDING CHANGES:

After fulfilling his riding engagement in Race 3, S. Guymer was examined by the club's doctor and was stood down from his remaining engagements due to a left knee injury that he sustained when dislodged from Morning Sun en route to the barriers for Race 2.

Race 4 G. Buckley on Budderoo Prince
Race 5 M. Bell onJantez
Race 7 G. Buckley onSeporto
Race 8 R. Murray onHappy Hustler

RACE 1: Huntley Benchmark 64 Handicap 2000m:

Fastnet Cyclone – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Lord Desanimaux – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn and was shifted to the outside of Mission Phoenix shortly after straightening to obtain clear running.

Mission Phoenix – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

On Angels Wings – Raced keenly throughout the middle stages. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn and was shifted to the outside of Fastnet Cyclone shortly after straightening to obtain clear running.

Hemsted – App. L. Day stated that, while she was able to obtain slow sectionals throughout the early and middle stages, she never felt that her mount travelled comfortably during this period. She said that for this reason near the 800m she commenced to place her mount under pressure to improve, however, Hemsted failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the final 200 metres. She said that in her opinion Hemsted did not appreciate today's firmer track surface. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr G. Neale advised that Hemsted will now be spelled. Acting on this assurance, Stewards took no further action.

Tormund – Commenced to lay in after the 800 metres and continued to do so when placed under pressure in the straight. Trainer Ms B. Somers was reprimanded under LR46(b) for failing to have the gelding on course by the prescribed time.

Plucky George – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

RACE 2: Dapto Maiden Handicap 1400m:

Supremist – Shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier. C. Lever stated that, after beginning only fairly, he settled his mount towards the rear of the field. He said that his mount came under pressure as far out as the 800m and, whilst it did not initially respond to his riding, over the final 150m the gelding commenced to finish its race off fairly, albeit, in his opinion, passing tiring horses. He said that in his view Supremist will be better suited by a softer track surface and being stepped up in distance.

Hot Dude – Raced keenly in the early stages and, approaching the 1100m, was steadied from the heels of Kimpembe. Hot Dude continued to race keenly throughout the middle stages.

Laughs Loudest – Approaching the 1100m, when racing keenly, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Cinnamon Cloud (S. Pollard), which shifted in when not clear. S. Pollard was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Laughs Loudest continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter. Approaching the 350m Laughs Loudest, which was weakening, was eased when crowded between Money Magic (K. Jennings) and Kimpembe (L. Magorrian), both of which shifted ground. L. Magorrian and K. Jennings were advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Chateaux Park – After being slow to begin was hampered by Morning Sun, which was taken out by Supremist. Chateaux Park was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

Kimpembe – Change of tactics – to be ridden further forward: Settled midfield.

Miss Keira – Near the 350m, after being disappointed for a run between Laughs Loudest and Money Magic, which shifted out, was shifted back to the inside of Money Magic to continue into clear running.

Money Magic – Stewards permitted K. Jennings to ride the filly ½ kilogram over its allotted weight of 55½ kilograms. Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight.

Peralta – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

RACE 3: Albion Park Fillies and Mares Class 1 Handicap 1200m:

Secretly – R. Hutchings stated that, after being slow to begin, his mount then did not travel as well as he had hoped after settling at the rear of the field. He added that Secretly did not appreciate racing to the inside of other runners and, whilst he was able to manoeuvre the filly to the outside of the field passing the 300m, due to his relative positioning, he was unable to do this sooner. He stated that when placed under pressure from this point Secretly responded well to his riding and finished its race off strongly, particularly over the final 100 metres.

Ivira – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Rocha Clock – The filly was a late scratching at 2.11 p.m. when it was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Stewards subsequently ordered that all moneys placed on Rocha Clock be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 2.11 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:

1st - Winter In America less 40 cents win, 32 cents place;

2nd - Ivira less 32 cents place;

3rd - Kimmylee less 32 cents place.

Trainer J. O'Shea was advised that Rocha Clock will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being permitted to race again.

Mojito – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Mojito was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from the outside barrier.

Mungara – Raced keenly in the early stages.

Cosmic Deluxe – On jumping was hampered by Dreaming For More, which shifted out.

RACE 4: Jerry Regan Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 1 Handicap 1200m:

Buzz – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Power Lift – Began only fairly. Passing the 100m was eased from the heels of Rabbit Clause when taken in by Super Vino and, as a consequence, Power Lift was unable to be tested for the remainder of the race when placed close to the heels of Rabbit Clause. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Arthur In Charge – Change of tactics – to be ridden conservatively from its wide barrier: Settled back. From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Approaching the 50m, when finishing its race off well, had to be shifted to the outside of Budderoo Prince to continue into clear running.

Rabbit Clause – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Sedona – When questioned regarding Sedona leading today, App. C. Graham stated that she was under no specific instructions, however, she anticipated settling behind the leaders with cover. After beginning well, and when Buzz and Love Me Broke held their positions to her inside, she elected to continue to ride forward and cross those runners rather than risk being caught wide and without cover.

Super Vino – Passing the 100m App. C. Williams dropped his whip.

Bullet Master – From the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

Soir De Lune – On jumping, made contact with the offside barrier partition resulting in rider M. Bell becoming slightly unbalanced. Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 900m was eased from the heels of Love Me Broke. When continuing to race keenly at the heels of Love Me Broke, Soir De Lune was then shifted out from behind that runner near the 800m and raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event.

Love Me Broke – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 900m was eased when tightened for room between Buzz, which when racing keenly at the heels of Sedona shifted out slightly, and Super Vino, which shifted in and away from Rabbit Clause.

Budderoo Prince – Slow to begin.

Firespark – The gelding was a late scratching at 9.58 a.m. by order of the Stewards.

RACE 5: Bee Baines Bolong Maiden Plate 1200m:

Akileos – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Enraged – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Kippax – Slow to begin (2L). Raced keenly in the early stages.

Momack – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Young Heart – Shortly after the start was badly crowded between Nakheel and Akileos, which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider. Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

Earp – Approaching the 900m, when attempting to obtain a position one off the fence outside Jantez, made contact with L'Cosmo on several occasions and had to be steadied and shifted back behind Jantez when unable to obtain this position. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Nakheel – Shortly after the start was bumped on the hindquarter by Young Heart and became unbalanced. Nakheel was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier.

RACE 6: Lee Wonson Memorial Benchmark 64 Handicap 1000m:

Art Of Excellence – Shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier. Hung out from the 600m until straightening.

Oksal – After beginning only fairly was then shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide barrier. Oksal was held up in the early part of the straight and, when endeavouring to shift to the outside of Nicof near the 300m to secure clear running, made contact with Princess Lottie, resulting in that runner being carried wider.

Princess Lottie – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Chelsea Reign – Began awkwardly, shifted in and hampered Can't Find Snippy. Near the 600m, when attempting to hold a position one off the fence, made contact with Alcatran on several occasions when that runner shifted in slightly. M. Bell stated that when held up behind Stralex on straightening, it was his intention to shift to the outside of that runner, however, he was unable to do so when Alcatran maintained its position. He said he continued to be held up and, when a run that he had hoped would develop between Can't Find Snippy and Stralex did not eventuate, he was obliged to steady his mount when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Can't Find Snippy. He further said that he was reluctant to take a narrow run that presented to the inside of Can't Find Snippy because he was concerned that Can't Find Snippy may shift in. He said that when able to place his mount under pressure over the final 150 metres, it finished its race off only fairly.

Stralex – Apprentice C. Graham said that due to the filly racing fiercely in the lead, it was left without a finishing effort in the straight, and when she became concerned with the manner in which it commenced to weaken inside the final 100 metres she then desisted from riding Stralex out over the final 50 metres. She added that in her view Stralex did not handle today's firmer track surface. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow-up on the post-race condition of Stralex in the days subsequent.

Dragoneight – Slow to begin.

See Me Out – Slow to begin. Trainer Mr J. Steinmetz was fined $100 under LR35(2) for failing to declare R. Murray as the rider of the mare by the prescribed time.

RACE 7: West Dapto Maiden Handicap 1600m:

McGraw – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Viren – Near the 250m, when racing tight with Seporto, had to be steadied when crowded between that runner and Cymbalic, which shifted in slightly. In the incident, Viren was taken in and made contact with Seporto, resulting in both runners becoming unbalanced.

Cymbalic – Change of tactics – to be ridden further forward: Settled off pace.

Varinka – Raced wide and without cover throughout. Near the 600m Varinka was eased to avoid the heels of Southern Queen, which was bumped and taken out by Cymbalic (K. Jennings) when endeavouring to shift out from behind Dinado. K. Jennings was advised that, in future, he must ensure he performs similar manoeuvres with greater care than on this occasion. App. L. Day was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out fully to the end of the race wherever possible.

Dinado – Change of tactics – option to be ridden further forward: Settled outside the leader.

Shimmering Light – A. Gibbons stated that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however, when the leaders commenced to quicken from the 600m his mount came under pressure and was only one-paced in the straight. He said that in his opinion Shimmering Light did not appreciate racing in amongst other runners in the straight and, although he was disappointed with the manner in which the filly performed over 1600 metres, he believed Shimmering Light may be better suited over a longer distance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of Shimmering Light in the days subsequent.

Tolkien – Slow to begin and, shortly afterwards, ran out despite the efforts of its rider and lost significant ground.

Vittorina – After being loaded into the barriers, the filly sat down behind. Vittorina was removed from the barriers, examined by the club's veterinary officer and deemed suitable to race. Vittorina began awkwardly and lost ground (3L). A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Yihfa Yihfa – Slow to begin (2L).

RACE 8: Calderwood Class 2 Handicap 1600m:

Bacinblac – After being loaded into the barriers, became fractious, reared over backwards and became cast. Bacinblac was removed from the barriers, examined by the club's veterinary officer and deemed unsuitable to race. As such, the mare was a late scratching at 5.19 p.m. Stewards subsequently ordered that all moneys placed on Bacinblac be refunded in full and, with regard to betting with bookmakers, all successful wagers made prior to 5.19 p.m. be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket:

1stNindamos less 8 cents win, 9 cents place;

2nd Queens less 16 cents place;

3rdRighteousness less 8 cents place.

Trainer R. Quinton was advised that Bacinblac will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before being permitted to race again.

Myprayer – Stewards permitted C. Lever to ride the gelding 1 kilogram over its allotted weight of 54½ kilograms. Myprayer raced keenly at the heels of Queens for some distance near the 1200m.

Magnificently – Stewards opened an inquiry into App. T. Sherry's riding out of the 6th, placegetter Magnificently over the final 50 metres. App. Sherry stated that near the 50m he became concerned that his mount was making abnormal respiratory noises and therefore elected to stop riding the filly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed Magnificently to be slow to recover with a marked abnormal respiratory noise. In deciding not to take any action against App. Sherry, Stewards were mindful of the post-race veterinary findings. Trainer Mr C. Conners was advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, will be required prior to Magnificently being permitted to race or trial again.

Queens – Stewards permitted M. Bell to ride the mare 1 kilogram over its allotted weight of 54 kilograms.

Mohican – A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Estaverdi – The filly, which was in the adjoining stall to the fractious Bacinblac, was examined by the club's veterinary officer and deemed suitable to race. On jumping, Estaverdi made contact with Nindamos and became unbalanced. Raced keenly at the heels of Happy Hustler for some distance after the 1200m. Raced wide and without cover after the 800m. App. C. Graham stated that, whilst her mount travelled well throughout the event, when she became concerned with her mount's action shortly after straightening, she then elected to ease her mount out of the event. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr K. Goldman undertook to provide the Stewards with the results of a thorough veterinary examination of Estaverdi at which time the Stewards will consider the filly's immediate racing future.

Grand Awakening – Trainer Mr D. Darcy advised Stewards that App. P. Scorse will be instructed not to use the whip as the gelding resents it. App. P. Scorse stated that, whilst he anticipated settling towards the rear of the field, he was able to capitalise on his mount beginning well and therefore settled behind the leaders.
