RACE 1:  Fowler Civil Contracting Maiden Plate 1500m

Bartandthequeen slow to begin.

 

Hidden Ace – crowded on jumping between Mission Phoenix and Balladeer, which began awkwardly and shifted in.

 

War Cabinet – raced keenly throughout the early stages.

 

Balladeer – raced keenly throughout the early stages.  Near the 900m had to be steadied away from the heels of War Cabinet when it continued to race keenly.

 

Oxidization – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages and commenced to hang out from the 900m until entering the home straight.  Laid in under pressure  and passing the 200m, resulting in its rider having to change the whip over to his right hand to correct his mount.

 

Georgina Gold – rider K Latham reported that the mare raced fiercely and was inclined to hang out throughout the early and middle stages.

RACE 2:  Blakes Marine Benchmark 64 Handicap 1500m

Legistation – slow to begin and failed to muster speed despite the efforts of its rider.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  App R Dolan reported that in his opinion Legistation may have come to the end of its preparation.  Trainer Mr W Slinkard advised the Stewards that Legistation would now be spelled.

 

Test Of War – laid in under pressure over the final 100m.  Near the 50m, when continuing to lay in, had to be eased away from the heels of One Of A Kind.  When questioned, App. T Sherry stated that he was instructed to ride the gelding prominently, however, he was given the option to ride it behind the leaders if challenged in the early stages.  He said that when he observed One Of A Kind improve quickly to his outside approaching the 1300m, he elected to restrain his mount and established a position on pace.  He added that in his opinion the tempo throughout the early and middle stages was above average and when One Of A Kind had established a sizeable lead on the main body of the field in the early stages, he was not concerned that the leader had established such a lead.  App. T Sherry further stated that passing the 800m he commenced to place some pressure on his mount, whereby the gelding in his opinion was travelling strongly and he was confident that One Of A Kind would come back to the field and he, therefore, did not place his mount under full pressure until shortly after straightening, whereby Test Of War closed its race of strongly.  After viewing the official patrol footage and considering the sectionals throughout the early and middle stages were only moderate, App. Sherry agreed with Stewards that, on a review of the sectional times, he may have had an opportunity to place his mount under pressure earlier than he did on this occasion.

RACE 3:  Easy Lane Stayers Class 4 Handicap 2100m

Densy – as K Latham was overweight, Stewards permitted J Collett to be substituted as the rider of the mare.  At a subsequent inquiry K Latham was fined $200 under AR190(3).  Slow to begin.

 

Villarrica – slow to begin.  A post-race veterinary examination of the mare, which was beaten 30 lengths, did not reveal any significant abnormalities.  Trainer Mr J Englebrecht was told a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for being uncompetitive and was further advised that, in light of today’s performance, the mare’s nomination will now be refused for metropolitan and provincial meetings until it establishes country form.  Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent

 

Knight Star – laid in under pressure in the straight and near the 150m rider B Spriggs had to change the whip over to his right hand to correct his mount.

 

Californiafirebird – raced wide and without cover until the 1000m.

 

Jarhead – a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 17 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities.  Trainer Mr G Ryan advised that Jarhead did not run out the distance of today’s race and would now be spelled.  Acting on this assurance, no further action was taken.

 

Weston – a post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which was beaten 40.5 lengths, did not reveal any abnormalities.  Stewards will follow up on the post-race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.

RACE 4:  Richmond Club Prov & Ctry Maiden Handicap 1100m

Dubleo Moon – began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Dimitri.  Shortly afterwards Dubleo Moon was crowded for room between Dimitri and Louder, which shifted out.  Raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.  Near the 600m, when continuing to overrace, had to be steadied away from the heels of Our Fox.

 

Charmmebaby – slow to begin and then from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Louder – bumped on jumping by Our Fox, which shifted out.  Near the 600m was crowded between Dimitiri and Our Fox, which shifted out slightly after being contacted on the hindquarter by Louder.  Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.  Then was crowded when disappointed for a narrow run between Fortnite and  Dimitri (C Lever), which shifted in.  C Lever was advised to exercise more care.  Louder was then shifted to the outside of Dimitri near the 75 to continue into clear running.

 

Psicopatico – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Dimitri – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.  Approaching the 600m had to be eased away from the heels of Fortnite (C Reith), which shifted in when not clear.  C Reith was reprimanded under AR131(a).

 

Sarah Elizabeth – laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

 

Fortnite – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Rider C Reith could offer no tangible explanation for the performance of the gelding, however, he did recommend to connections to apply a tongue tie to Fortnite’s race gear at it’s next start.  The post-race condition of Fortnite will be followed up in the days subsequent.

 

Sombre Prize – a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

 

Budhwar – App. J Van Overmeire confirmed his instructions were to ride the gelding conservatively, however, after beginning well, he was able to assume the lead without placing his mount under any pressure to do so.

 

RACE 5:  Irresistible Pools & Spas 4YO&Up Maiden Plate 1100m

Sturgeon Moon – began awkwardly.  Shortly afterwards was hampered by Thrive In The Home, which shifted in.

 

Schengen – began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Star Barista.

 

Star Barista – was shifted behind runners in the early stages.  Near the 50m had to be steadied when awkwardly placed closed to the heels of Jaytees and as a consequence was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages.

 

Thrive In The Home – raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

 

RACE 6:  Skin Fitness Class 1 Handicap 1600m

Winter In America – slow to begin and shortly after the start was hampered by Arabolini, which shifted out.  Raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider K O'Hara stated that in her opinion the mare did not run the distance of today’s race and will be better suited over shorter distances and races with a more genuine speed.  She added that the mare made an abnormal respiratory noise on return to scale.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  Co-trainer Mr L Price was advised a veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, must be provided prior to the mare barrier trialling or racing again.

 

Shaibanat – from the outside barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages.

 

Golden Creek – when racing wide and without cover throughout the early stages, rider A Adkins allowed his mount to stride forward and assume a position outside the leader Highjacker near the 1000m

 

Lexi’s Choice – raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.  Held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, whereby the mare was able to secure clear running near the 300m.

 

Arabolini – near the 1100m was bumped by Sky Diamonds, which shifted out slightly.

 

Bernson – held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, until securing clear running near the 250m.

 

Silent Agenda – passing the 200m had to be shifted to the inside of Sky Diamonds to secure clear running.

 

RACE 7:  Lander Toyota Ladies Day Cup (Listed) 1600m

Laila De Vega – late scratching at 9.10pm on veterinary advice after the mare was found to be lame in the near-foreleg.  Trainer Mr J Thompson was advised a veterinary clearance would be required to be provided prior to the mare barrier trialling or racing again.

 

Miss Redoble – began awkwardly.  Overraced throughout the early and middle stages.  Raced wide and without cover until near the 1100m, where it was able to assume a position in the lead.

 

On Angels Wings – slow to begin.  Raced wide and without cover from the 800m.

 

My Nordic Hero - shortly after the start was crowded between Cellarman and Testashadow, which shifted out.

 

Testashadow – overraced throughout the early and middle stages and near the 1100m, when continuing to overrace, had to be eased away from the heels of Miss Redoble (G Buckley), which shifted in.  G Buckley was advised to exercise more care.

 

Articus – overraced throughout the early and middle stages.  Near the 150m was disappointed for a narrow run and had to be checked between Taikomochi and Cellarman, which shifted in marginally.

 

Admire Winner – approaching the 800m had to be eased away from the heels of Delectation Girl when commencing to overrace.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  The post-race condition of Admire Winner will be followed up in the days subsequent.

 

McCreery – rider R Hutchings could offer no tangible explanation for the performance of the gelding, other than it may not have appreciated today’s track conditions.  A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.  The post-race condition of Mcreery will be followed up in the days subsequent.

RACE 8:  Chalker Accountants Benchmark 64 Handicap 1100m

Shalama – the start of this race was delayed when the gelding lost it’s near-hind plate in the mounting yard, which necessitated it having to be refitted behind the barriers.  The gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was deemed suitable to race.  Shortly after the start was hampered by Captain Courageous, which shifted out.  Laid in when placed under pressure in the straight.

 

Estrado – as the start was effected, turned its head and as a consequence began awkwardly and lost ground (2L).  Overraced throughout the early and middle stages.  Had to be shifted to the outside of Charlie Chap passing the 100m to continue into clear running.

 

Destorner – began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with Lagarde.  Held up rounding the home turn.  Near the 400m raced in restricted room between Missile Miss and Super Longlea, which shifted out marginally.

 

Skyray – held up rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, whereby the gelding was shifted to the outside of Charlie Chap near the 300m to continue into clear running.

 

Soami – approaching the 200m had to be shifted to the inside of Largarde to continue into clear running.

 

Missile Miss – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

 

Charlie Chap – raced wide and without cover throughout the event.

Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR132(7)(a)(ii).  Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken.
