Hawkesbury Trackwork Monday 10 September 2018

Reiby Rampart – Stewards today continued their inquiries into the death of Reiby Rampart after it broke down whilst completing track work on the morning of Monday 10 September 2018 and was subsequently euthanised. Evidence today was taken from trainer Mr J Attard who provided veterinary and treatment records for the relevant period for Reiby Rampart and Racing NSW Veterinarian Dr James Mizzi. A necropsy report conducted by the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden concluded that Reiby Rampart suffered simple mid-body fractures of both the proximal sesamoid bones of the left forelimb and severe tearing of the suspensory ligament. As the Stewards were satisfied that there was no pre-existing injury or condition that may have led or contributed to Reiby Rampart suffering a catastrophic injury to the near foreleg, the inquiry was concluded.

Hostwin Epanoui – Began only fairly.

Tokyo King – Passing the 150m when laying in was hampered by Elkano when that runner shifted out under pressure. When questioned regarding the gelding racing prominently today rider R King stated that the instructions issued were similar to those issued to her last start at Hawkesbury 25 October 2018 to have the horse settled prominently with cover. She said however on that occasion from the outside barrier she was obliged to settle further back in an endeavour to obtain cover. She added today from a more favourable barrier after beginning well Tokyo King was able to hold a more prominent position.

The Wild Wild West – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When questioned regarding the mare racing further back today App S Vella stated that she was instructed to ride the horse conservatively today. She added that The Wild Wild West which was stepping up in distance today began well, but bearing in mind her instructions she took hold of her mount in the early stages in an endeavour to have the horse ridden conservatively. She added that from a wide barrier she shifted The Wild Wild West in behind runners in the early stages however when Britannicus maintained its position to her inside she was unable to obtain a position with cover and ultimately raced three-wide without cover. He added that approaching the home turn French Blue became under pressure and weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr G Neale could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than to advise the horse was having its second start back from a tie back procedure and this may have been the reason for its performance. Stewards deemed the performance to be unacceptable and Trainer Mr G Neale was advised that French Blue would be permitted to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Trainer Mr G Neale was reminded of his obligations under AR140(a) to notify Stewards of any surgery including tie back procedures by nomination time.

When questioned regarding her riding from the 700m and the reason Albert Of Monaco was able to improve to her outside resulting in her mount being held up after the 600m App R Hunt in the presence of industry training mentor Mr R Quinn stated that she was instructed to ride the horse in midfield position and not to pressure her mount as the gelding has a tendency to overrace. She added that after obtaining an off-pace position her mount did race keenly throughout the early and middle stages and as such she did not want to expose Tinker Dan early in the race. She added that although she was aware Albert Of Monaco was improving to her outside as her horse was overracing she was reluctant to shift out at this point and maintain her position behind Villarrica. She further added that as a result Tinker Dan became held up until entering the home straight where she then endeavoured to improve into a narrow run between Godunov and Knight Star. She added when improving into this run Tinker Dan made contact with the hindquarters of Knight Star and became unbalanced and was then further crowded approaching the 200m when Godunov shifted in. She added that once in clear running passing the 200m although inclined to lay in Tinker Dan finished its race off well. App Hunt agreed with Stewards that she should have shifted to a three-wide position to the outside of Villarrica approaching the 600m which would have afforded Tinker Dan clear and uninterrupted running in the straight.

Go Benny – Slow to begin. Shortly after was crowded by Keep Up which shifted in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia. As this was the third occasion Go Benny has displayed cardiac arrhythmia this preparation the matter was adjourned to a date to fixed. In the interim Go Benny will not be permitted to race until this matter is resolved.

Knight Star – Near the 350m was bumped on the hindquarters by Tinker Dan. Approaching the 200m had to be steadied when crowded between Devil’s Lair which had previously shifted out marginally and Tinker Dan which after intentionally being taken in by Godunov (J Innes Jnr) shifted in and away from that runner. J Innes was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
