Race:1 (78) NIIGATA HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

KEEP GOING jumped in at the start and made contact with FOX CHEUNGER which in turn shifted in and bumped heavily with NASHASHUK which lost ground when tightened onto the hindquarters of OPEN HOUSE which became unbalanced.
From a wide barrier, MY DEAR was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
LA BOMBA was inclined to lay out making the first turn near the 1000 Metres.
LEISURED FEET (C Y Ho) raced wide and without cover until approaching the 600 Metres at which stage it shifted in across LA BOMBA when not quite clear. C Y Ho was advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground.
RED BRICK FIGHTER was left racing wide and without cover from the 600 Metres and then was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the Straight.
KEEP GOING made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly.
Passing the 500 Metres, FOX CHEUNGER shifted out and made contact with FIRE AND GOLD.
Rounding the Home Turn, KEEP GOING was awkwardly placed behind LA BOMBA which commenced to give ground.
A veterinary inspection of LA BOMBA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of OPEN HOUSE immediately following the race revealed the horse to be displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, OPEN HOUSE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GOUTEN OF GARO, STARLOT and NASHASHUK were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (79) HANSHIN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

After beginning only fairly, DIONYSUS COLLIN took some time to muster speed.
From a wide barrier, STRATHBARRA was steadied soon after the start and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, STARLIT KNIGHT failed to muster speed and passing the winning post on the first occasion was left racing wide and without cover. Then after the 1200 Metres, STARLIT KNIGHT was allowed to improve gradually around the field to shift in and assume the lead prior to the 600 Metres.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, GOLDEN TURBO and ZHAN JIANG ROCKS raced tight between SOLAR BILLION and NITRO EXPRESS (N Callan) which shifted in. N Callan was advised to ensure that he allows comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
Passing the 800 Metres, ZHAN JIANG ROCKS was steadied away from the heels of SPEEDY WALLY which itself was steadied when awkwardly placed behind FLAME LILY.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, ZHAN JIANG ROCKS raced tight inside SPEEDY WALLY which got its head on the side and lay in.
Approaching the 200 Metres, ZHAN JIANG ROCKS and WINNING CONTROLLER brushed.
Following the race, N Callan stated that NITRO EXPRESS did not stretch out during the event and raced "flat”. A veterinary inspection of NITRO EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of NITRO EXPRESS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NITRO EXPRESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of GOD OF DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of FLYING TIGER HERO immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
FLAME LILY and SPEEDY WALLY were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (80) NAKAYAMA HANDICAP (Sec3) Class 4 1200 m

STUNNING IMPACT was slow to begin.
From wide barriers, HAPPY WIN WIN and MISCHIEVOUS SUNDAE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being vigorously ridden throughout the early stages, MULTIMAX failed to muster sufficient speed to be able to cross EVERBRAVE and consequently travelled wide and without cover and then weakened in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of MULTIMAX immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Just prior to the finishing line, N Callan (TRAVEL DATUK) dropped his left rein.
When questioned, A Domeyer stated that after being ridden along to take up a prominent positon as instructed, EVERBRAVE commenced to travel keenly making the turn near the 1000 Metres. He said along the Back Straight he was hoping that MULTIMAX, which was racing to the outside of EVERBRAVE, would be able to cross his mount which may have afforded the horse the opportunity to relax better, however, EVERBRAVE continued to travel keenly outside the leader SHOUSON. A Domeyer added that due to the manner in which EVERBRAVE travelled throughout the early and middle stages, the horse was then not able to close off the race and weakened noticeably over the final 150 Metres. A veterinary inspection of EVERBRAVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HARDLY SWEARS and TRAVEL DATUK were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (81) NAKAYAMA HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

BOND ELEGANCE was withdrawn on raceday afternoon by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (became distressed when proving difficult to load on the horse transport from Sha Tin). Before being allowed to race again, BOND ELEGANCE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When interviewed, Trainer D J Whyte stated that for the near future BOND ELEGANCE’s racing would be restricted to Sha Tin which does not involve the horse having to be floated. Mr Whyte was however advised that before being eligible to be entered to race at Happy Valley again, BOND ELEGANCE will have to undergo an appropriate test to establish that the horse can be transported satisfactorily to the racecourse.
From wide barriers, SUPREME PATROL and DIVINE POWER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Throughout the race, HAPPY FOREST travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY FOREST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HAPPY FOREST, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY FOREST will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of ZERO HEDGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
AURORA PEGASUS and THE ABRAXAS were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (82) HANSHIN HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1650 m

SHINING ON began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with HAPPY ROCKY and then soon after the start was steadied when tightened between HAPPY ROCKY and C P POWER which shifted out.
From a wide barrier, HAPPY HOUR was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
CHARITY WINGS travelled wide and without cover from approaching the 1000 Metres until the 600 Metres.
At the 900 Metres, FLASH FAMOUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GODSPEED.
Approaching the 600 Metres, despite being ridden along, NABOO STAR lost ground when unable to maintain its position outside SHINING ON which shifted to the outside of FLASH FAMOUS to improve its position.
At the 250 Metres, NABOO STAR and RIGHT HONOURABLE raced tight as NABOO STAR was directed to the outside of the heels of CHARITY WINGS which commenced to tire. HAPPY HOUR, which was following NABOO STAR, shifted in abruptly away from the heels of that horse in consequence. When improving into tight running between CHARITY WINGS and GODSPEED at the 200 Metres, HAPPY HOUR was momentarily crowded due to GODSPEED shifting out slightly under pressure. Due to contact on its hindquarters from HAPPY HOUR, GODSPEED continued to shift out despite the efforts of it rider, resulting in HAPPY HOUR being taken out onto CHARITY WINGS which in turn shifted out, resulting in NABOO STAR being checked near the 100 Metres when unable to maintain its position inside RIGHT HONOURABLE. As there was no rider error involved in this incident, no further action was taken.
HAPPY HOUR shifted in a number of horses after the 100 Metres before being corrected by its rider just prior to the winning post.
A Domeyer (C P POWER) was fined $5,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse’s right flank.
When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on GODSPEED, L Hewitson stated that in pre-race discussions with Trainer D J Hall, he was advised that as two of the favoured runners NABOO STAR and CHARITY WINGS were expected to race close to the pace, it was felt that it would be in GODSPEED’s best interests to also be ridden prominently, ideally in the first four runners. He said he rode GODSPEED positively in the early stages in order to comply with his instructions and was able to cross CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE and FLASH FAMOUS prior to the 1200 Metres and assumed the lead before allowing ENJOY LIFE to take over the leading role. He added GODSPEED then travelled comfortably in the box seat, however, was one-paced in the Straight.
When questioned regarding the performance of NABOO STAR, J Moreira stated that the horse settled well in a midfield position however, along the Back Straight dropped the bit and was unable to hold its position outside of SHINING ON which shifted out. He said whilst NABOO STAR travelled only fairly from that point until approaching the Home Turn, the horse commenced to respond to his hard riding in the early part of the Straight. He said however that after initially being awkwardly placed behind the tiring CHARITY WINGS, NABOO STAR was then checked near the 100 Metres and as a result lost all momentum and as the horse was out of contention, he did not ride it out over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of NABOO STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of CHARITY WINGS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
NABOO STAR, FLASH FAMOUS and SHINING ON were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (83) NAKAYAMA HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

On arrival at the course, NAVAS, which sustained abrasions to the right hock and the base of its tail whilst being transported from Sha Tin, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed fit to race.
After being loaded, SUPER FUN became fractious and reared, resulting in its rider, L Hewitson, being momentarily dislodged. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER FUN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
BRILLIANT stood flat-footed as the start was effected and threw its head up, losing a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, BRILLIANT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
SHAMPORT lost its right hind plate shortly after the start.
Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, CAMFORD MAGIC, when racing greenly, shifted out of its own accord and was checked away from the heels of SHAMPORT.
Approaching the 800 Metres, KUNG FU TEA faltered in its action for no apparent reason, became unbalanced and lost ground. SHAMPORT, which was racing at the hindquarters of KUNG FU TEA, was obliged to shift out abruptly to avoid that horse and remained racing wide and without cover thereafter. As KUNG FU TEA lost ground, CAMFORD MAGIC, which was following, was hampered in consequence. KUNG FU TEA then made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly. The racing manners of KUNG FU TEA were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, KUNG FU TEA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of KUNG FU TEA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Approaching the 500 Metres, NAVAS improved up onto the heels of U W BROTHER and was checked.
Approaching the Home Turn, SHAMPORT was taken wider by ISLAND WINNER which shifted out to improve around the heels of ALL WONGCHOY.
Approaching the 100 Metres, BULLISH BROTHER shifted out under pressure and raced tight with ALL WONGCHOY.
Over the concluding stages, ALL WONGCHOY shifted in under pressure, resulting in BULLISH BROTHER being taken in which caused NAVAS to be shifted in away from the heels of BULLISH BROTHER close to the finishing line.
A veterinary inspection of CAMFORD MAGIC immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ALL WONGCHOY and PRECIOUS SWEETIE were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (84) THE JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION TROPHY (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 2 1650 m

At the 1300 Metres, PLAYA DEL PUENTE was left racing wide and without cover. When racing without cover, PLAYA DEL PUENTE raced keenly for some distance approaching the 1000 Metres and then after passing the 900 Metres was allowed to improve quickly around the field to race outside the lead before crossing CIRCUIT GLORY after the 600 Metres.
For some distance after the 1000 Metres, HAPPY DRAGON travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MR SO AND SO.
K Teetan (PLAYA DEL PUENTE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 600 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of CIRCUIT GLORY, resulting in that horse being hampered and very awkwardly placed on the heels of PLAYA DEL PUENTE. K Teetan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 27 October 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 31 October 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Teetan’s good race riding record. When checked away from the heels of PLAYA DEL PUENTE, CIRCUIT GLORY shifted out, resulting in TURIN REDSTAR being hampered and taken wider. HARMONY HERO, which was following, was forced wider in consequence. CIRCUIT GLORY then remained awkwardly placed close to the heels of PLAYA DEL PUENTE and shifted in at the 500 Metres, resulting in MR SO AND SO being checked and consequently shifted out and raced tight inside TURIN REDSTAR for some distance.
For some distance after the 150 Metres, TURIN REDSTAR lay in away from HAPPY DRAGON (M Chadwick) which shifted in under pressure, resulting in PLAYA DEL PUENTE being steadied away from the heels of TURIN REDSTAR at the 75 Metres. Then over the concluding stages, TURIN REDSTAR was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY DRAGON which continued to shift in under pressure. M Chadwick was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he must stop riding and straighten his mounts.
A veterinary inspection of GREEN LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of VICTORY BOYS and GOOD OMEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GREEN LUCK, HAPPY DRAGON and DANCES WITH DRAGON were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (85) TOKYO HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

BLITZING was withdrawn on raceday afternoon by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (injury to left hind leg during transport to Happy Valley). Before being allowed to race again, BLITZING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
In carrying out a routine track inspection of the course after Race 7 and before the commencement of this race, Club staff identified three small opened containers of paint on the Back Straight of the track. The material was cleared away immediately. It was decided to hold horses behind the starting gates to ensure that the start of this race would only commence when the Stewards were satisfied that it was safe to proceed. An additional number of security staff were deployed alongside the normal patrolling security staff to ensure no similar incident could occur. After noting a report from Club security staff, the Stewards were satisfied that this race could commence. Consequently the starting time for this event was delayed.
MONEY BACK and NORDIC WARRIOR began only fairly.
From the outside barrier, FARSHAD was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
At the 450 Metres, FARSHAD was bumped and taken wider by BALLISTIC KING (A Domeyer) which shifted out around the heels of SHANGHAI MASTER to improve. A Domeyer was advised that in similar circumstances he must exercise due care and not place undue pressure on other runners.
After passing the 200 Metres, YOO YOO KING was directed to the outside of BALLISTIC KING after being disappointed for running between SHANGHAI MASTER and BALLISTIC KING which shifted in under pressure.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident occurred which cast sufficient doubt on whether FARSHAD (H W Lai) should be declared the 3rd placegetter. Subsequently K Teetan, the rider of YOO YOO KING, 4th placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against FARSHAD being declared the 3rd placegetter alleging interference to his mount over the final 100 Metres. After taking evidence from both jockeys and after viewing the videos, it was established that over the final 100 Metres FARSHAD shifted in a significant amount of ground, resulting in YOO YOO KING being hampered and taken inwards and not being able to be properly tested. It was further established that close to the finishing line YOO YOO KING was restrained away from the heels of BALLISTIC KING and was not able to be ridden out to the end of the race after being bumped by FARSHAD which continued to shift in in the run to the finishing line. Having in mind the neck margin between the two horses at the end of the race and the prolonged distance over which YOO YOO KING was hampered by FARSHAD, the Stewards were comfortably satisfied that had the interference which clearly took place not occurred YOO YOO KING would have finished in front of FARSHAD. Accordingly, the protest/objection was sustained and the placings amended to read No. 7, BALLISTIC KING, 1st; No. 10, NORDIC WARRIOR, 2nd; No. 1, YOO YOO KING, 3rd; and No. 11, FARSHAD, 4th. At a subsequent inquiry, H W Lai pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the final 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in a number of horses, resulting in YOO YOO KING being hampered when taken off its line and close to the finishing line being restrained away from the heels of BALLISTIC KING. H W Lai was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 20 October 2019 and to expire on Thursday, 24 October 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that this was Jockey Lai’s first careless riding offence since resuming after a long injury lay-off.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that GRATWICK jumped well and took up a forward position as was intended. He said however that GRATWICK travelled only fairly during the event and then did not let down properly in the Home Straight and was disappointing. He said, in his view, GRATWICK did not appear to be comfortable on the Happy Valley circuit at its first time of asking and accordingly had recommended to connections that they campaign the horse at Sha Tin in the near future. A veterinary inspection of GRATWICK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
An inquiry into an incident on the turn after the 600 Metres involving MR PICASSO (M F Poon), GRATWICK (M Chadwick) and FIRST RESPONDER (N Callan) will be conducted before the first race at the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday, 12 October 2019.
A veterinary inspection of FIRST RESPONDER and SHANGHAI MASTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
BALLISTIC KING and NORDIC WARRIOR were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (86) KYOTO HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

AMAZING LUCK, STAR OF THEHARBOUR and JOLLY CONVERGENCE were slow to begin.
From a wide barrier, MEGA HEART was shifted across behind runners soon after the start.
After the 150 Metres, Z Purton, the rider of SNAP FIT, momentarily dropped his right rein.
Throughout the race, BALTIC WHISPER travelled wide and without cover.
SNAP FIT and SPECIAL STARS were sent for sampling.
